That’s actually really encouraging info.

I wasn’t down on the performance today. It looked like we didn’t play great but not shocking that a P4 team wouldn’t be sharp against a g5 school the week before a conference game against a top 15 team. But maybe it was better than it looked and I wasn’t giving NIU D enough credit.

NIU is a decent team. They had size and some good athletes. They are no UTn but we handled them well enough in my opinion. Well enough that I feel ok about next week.

You may want to hold off until we get a couple of SEC games under our belts

I'm gonna stand by calling the coaches decent based on the clear improvement they've accomplished from last year to this one.

I was not at all confident that was going to happen after last year. I'm pretty giddy about the idea that we may not have to find a new HC in a year, because I was dreading that.

As long as we don't regress significantly, I'm not expecting miracles the rest of the way. Just don't regress. We're inevitably going to take losses and look bad at times considering the competition.

More relevant, it will likely tell us we're not as good as you think we are.

But I'd love to be wrong.
I don’t think we’re a great team by any means. We’re decent. But last season we were one of the worst P4 teams in the country, so decent is a huge improvement. Lebby inherited a disaster, and for him to have us competitive in year two is a good sign. If we can get 6 wins and get to a bowl game, the season will have been a big success.

How good do you think I think we are??

I've stated it pretty clearly in other threads, but I'm interested in what your assumption is?

ETA I'll save you the trouble. I typed this in another thread this morning...

"I honestly think the ceiling for us this season is we are the 30th best team in FBS and the floor is probably 45th.

So, we are about to play 6 games against teams that are clearly better than us right now and will certainly be favored, and two games against teams we match up ok with, but they are on the road (Florida and Arkansas) so we will be underdogs.

And we're still significantly improved and appear to be on the right track."

So, I think we're much better than last year and could still be on the cusp of losing 8 in a row. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we get to 6 wins.

Is that overly optimistic??
