As bad as the way the season ended, I'm happy that we didnt somehow backinto a bowl game without earning it. While on the other hand, a bowl game would have been good for the team due to the extra practices that goes along with a bowl game.

It's the best thing right now. Stoops needs time to solidify this recruiting class, one more loss would not help. Hope he make changes and I think he will. GO CATS11

Barker and others could've used the extra practice.
I agree with your comment about the extra practice, but it reminds me of something my old coach said "You have to practice to get better, but you have to practice right or you are just wasting every ones time". I hope thats not the case here.

They've gone backwards all season, what makes you think the trend wouldn't continue? Some things are better left to die and this season, sorry to say, is one of those things.
Yeah, usually I would say the extra practice time would really help, but I don't think that's the case this year. The coaches need some time to figure out what the hell they're doing. Hopefully they can.

I would love for 2 more teams to follow in Mizzou's example and see them have to cancel a bowl It's gotten out of hand.

Extra practice won't help. Until we replace some of our staff, we're better off just ending this trainwreck of a season.

How the hell Missouri get a bowl berth over UK?

Based on APR score.

http://espn.go.com/college-football...based-apr-missouri-tigers-seek-bid-high-score

However, their AD has the self-respect that Barnhart doesn't have: "Following this weekend's football games, there have been significant discussions nationally concerning 5-7 teams participating in bowl games," Rhoades said in a statement. "After careful consideration, we have decided it is not in the best interest of our football program to seek permission from the NCAA to participate in a bowl game. Our focus remains on identifying the right leader for our program and moving forward with the transition process."

This is for the best. If we had been offered a bowl game, it would have been a no win situation for UK. If UK declined the bowl invite, some people would have been upset at Barnhart for passing up the opportunity for more team practices. If UK accepted a bowl invite and got smoked by a legit bowl team, Barnhart and Stoops risk a fan revolt from an already angry fan base (myself included). It's best for this season to end and everyone can focus on finding the best path for improvement next year.

That's stupid. If we had just offered fake classes like UNCheat we would have higher scores. Geez, at least Vandy sucks because they have so many academic restrictions. What's our excuse??

I said yesterday we would not get a bid because it would go on APR. It's a reward for teams that were close that did well academically. Unfortunately UK is pretty far down the list of 5-7 teams. This too is on Stoops.

I'd much rather see the bowls go to mid-majors than 5-7 teams from P5 conferences. We don't deserve a bowl bid and I am glad we didn't get one. Nobody with anything less than a 6-6 record should even be considered for a bowl bid, even if it is the Toilet Bowl sponsored by 2000 Flushes.

Relieved. I get the utility in the extra practices, but I'm going to be totally honest here: I've seen nothing from our staff this season to indicate that a little extra practice time with these coaches would amount to any appreciable improvement in our team.

Beyond that, is there any doubt that Barnhart would have touted this "bowl game" when he pens a condescending letter to the fanbase sometime this offseason or next? A bowl game has always been the great beacon of success or holy grail for our fanbase - no doubt lucking into one would eventually be used against us.

I guess I'm in the minority that was hoping we would sneak into a bowl game. Our team definitely needs the extra practice and winning even the crappiest bowl game would help the team/program, even if just slightly. Oh well though

The biggest change he needs to make is to get his weak, non coaching *** out of Lexington but that won't happen. Look for 4-8, 5-7 next year. He is a very bad, inept head coach that we happen to be stuck with.

How the hell Missouri get a bowl berth over UK?

Here are the 12 5-7 teams, with APR score in parenthesis:

(985) Nebraska 5-7
(976) Missouri 5-7
(975) Minnesota 5-7
(975) San Jose State 5-7
(973) Illinois 5-7
(973) Rice 5-7
(954) UTEP 5-7
(951) Old Dominion 5-7
(950) ECU 5-7
(948) Buffalo 5-7
(945) Kentucky 5-7
(933) FIU 5-7

Of the other 5 teams that COULD finish 5-7, Kansas State figures to be in the mix for a bowl bid should they lose next week:

(976) Kansas State 5-6 (WVU)
(958) Texas 4-7 (@Baylor)
(953) Louisiana Lafayette 4-7 (Troy)
(943) South Alabama 5-6 (App State)
(940) Georgia State 5-6 (@Ga Southern)

UK could possibly still go to a bowl game if enough teams in front of them decline to go, like Missouri did.

Anybody else wondering whether this decision by Missouri is the administration's way of "sticking it" to the team for their decision to "boycott" the rest of the season if the President of the University did not decide to resign a few weeks ago?

Tis the season to purge the roster of some bad seeds, some players and coaches need to PACK IT UP AND GET OUT OF TOWN.

A bowl game is not the answer for this dysfunctional outfit..

I don't think extra practices is a good thing with this staff. This staff has been running practices since summer and the team got steadily worse in every phase of the game. It's probably good for the players to put the lid on the season, end the misery, and start focusing on conditioning and looking forward to a fresh start in the spring.
