It's no doubt about money, but I do like the idea of having students behind both goals. Whether this improves the atmosphere remains to be seen. If it does, win-win. I'll say this much, Byrne picked a good year to do this. The atmosphere in the Hump should be stellar no matter what. Who's going to complain about anything when we're winning 25-28 regular season games? That is, if Donald Jackson gets all Johnnie Cochran and ****.

100% agree on both parts. Maybe, maybe for the elite donor people I could see giving them 6 or 8.

On Tuesday and Wednesday night games when the Old farts are in Jackson or watching on tv that means the mid court lower tier will be empty instead of just one side. On TV That will look like no one cares about MSU basketball.

Anyone who has watched a game from the student section knows what Im talking about. The Student Section is packed shoulder to Shoulder and across from us where Meo sits its her and 100 people. With the new seating chart it will be 50 people on each side center court and then 5 thousand underneath each goal.
Why split up the loudest section?

for a few reasons

1: most obvious is revenue
2: 2nd most obvious is difficulty
3: more motivation to get crowd noise from rest of stands because its no longer coming from just one corner
4: MOST IMPORTANT: It may break up the generic Rick's rowdies crowd because there are multiple locations for people to run and get front row seats

Are you really this dense? Do you really think this is what he's saying?

...of course I would like all of the lower seats to be student, but that's not gonna happen. I have thought for a while that its stupid to not have students behind both goals. Plus, we're talking about the ninja here...if it sucks, doesn't work for some reason, too many people complain, he will change it. Why? Because he's not a <17>ing moron.

plan is any worse for the students and the atmosphere at the game. It certainly is debatable and unclear in my book either way. Heck, if the screws are put to somebody, put it to the faculty. With the hump as full as it is, I say it is time to reduce the faculty allottment. They can come up with some way of prioritizing their seats. And after those are gone, they have to pony up like all the other of us that work.

I'm gonna miss my amazing seats but it makes a lot of sense buisness-wise. My main concern would be changes to the atmosphere. I truly believe if candyman, the extreme rowdy group (the 7 guys that camp out before the games even though not a single person gets in line until 4 hours before the game), and Rick's wife died suddenly the hump wouldn't make a damn noise until we scored.

It also is gonna mess up the spots for the students who "Just wanna watch the game"

have an axe to grind against them. And I am quite sure they would get upset. But, so did the legacy folks. It just occurs to me that they have jobs and can actually pay for sitting there --a distinct advantage over our students.

Indeed..I spent several nights in tents the last couple years..
even the night campus was closed due to the upcoming snow storm before senior day against LSU...damn fun night.

This is actually better for candyman.....as Im sure he will be in one end of the floor (likely the floor seat section) and have a counterpart in the other end for the maroon-white cheers

can it be coordinated.
well..we are M-State.

BTW.. if anyone or any student has a problem with the new arrangement... voice your displeasure to the SA... they are the ones who gave their blessings.

their 'discount' is all but gone. I doubt many would mind forking over the regular price to keep thier seats. But, I don't think any would be happy if they had to pay for a seat license. The vast majority of faculty tickets holders are very friendly to the athletic dept and I think you want to keep it that way.

Am I the only former student who believe that students should be paying something for their tickets? $5 /ticket is not a lot to ask.

they also only have about 1/3 of the undergrad students we have. if they gave out 3000 student tickets, that'd be half their school.

Rick's wife died suddenly
No more "Deeee Faaaaaanse" regardless of who has the ball. That doesn't sound so bad. But, it does seem pretty extreme just to get rid of that yankee battle scream.

and I'm a current student..
Considering how lucky we have it with the pure NUMBER of tickets they are giving to the students...and a guarantee for every game (no random drawings or classification restrictions)
we have it VERY Lucky.

Mississippi sold season tickets for $48 for 16 games last season....
at one time I had looked around at every school in the SEC to see how basketball and football tickets were done.. (cost, restrictions, etc)
but cant find any of that now.

I think season tickets should be sold to students. Possibly with restrictions for the following years so that you dont buy them and not use them...(ie attendance to so many games)

From Veazy's blog...

Writing in his weekly letter, Byrne says the move is "an effort to provide more premium seating for our donor base, and at the same time, make The Hump an even more difficult place for opponents to play." Byrne explains that the move was meant to provide more lower-level seating on the sides of the court while placing students behind each goal to improve the atmosphere. And he says the Student Association Cabinet and the Athletic Council were "supportive" of it. He's quick to point out that students actually gain seats in the lower level in this plan - from 1,339 to 1,405, a gain of 66 seats. And he also writes that "providing side-court seating for donors will likely increase revenue to the athletic program."

We need all the revenue we can get... If you are a student and you care at all about the overall success of the athletic department, you should absolutely support this. Otherwise you are just being selfish.

Im not sure how its done now, but a few years ago when I was still in college, Alabama students got in for free at Coleman.

This doesnt have much to do with the current topic, but I liked their way of getting into the game better than State's. Like State, Alabama student section was on a first come-first serve basis. But they did not have to wait in line to get a ticket. They swiped the Student ID's at the gate until the alottment was reached. I know both have downsides, but at least the students cut their wait time down to 1 day.
Im not sure how it is now, but when I was a student at State, you had to get to the ticket office at the crack of dawn to sit and wait for your tickets for the week. Thats no problem for me, except that to get a good seat, I had to turn around and get to the game several hours before tipoff. I guess for the student's sake, I would like to see this change. Why not do away with the tickets, if they are going to be free anyways and just let it be first come first serve to get into the game. The only downside I see for students is they cant sell their tickets. I made $80 off of 2 tickets to that Kentucky game several years ago. Went to The Grill and used my $80 to drink on that night. Good thing too, Kentucky won the game on a last second tip in.

...he got a ticket to ONE game?

Duke Basketball Season Ticket Campout 2009
Welcome to Duke! Let's get right to the most important issue on your mind: How can YOU
get season tickets to this year's men's basketball games in Cameron Indoor Stadium? Eligibility
to purchase tickets is determined via the Graduate and Professional Student Council
Basketball Ticket Campout
. Campout for the 2009-2010 Duke Men's Basketball season will be
held starting at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 11, 2009 and runs through Sunday, September
13, 2009 at approximately 7 am.
The rules are simple: make it through the weekend without missing two attendance checks
and your name is entered in a lottery. Lottery winners are then drawn and each of these lucky
individuals is eligible to buy one of the 700 graduate and professional season tickets. But
Campout isn't just about basketball tickets. With almost 2000 students representing nearly every
program and department at the University in attendance, this is also the premier graduate and
professional student social event of the year. Campout is an excellent opportunity to bond
with your students in your own program and make friends in other programs.
Campout will be held in the Blue Zone parking lots and adjacent field on Wannamaker Dr.
near Duke University Rd. There is space at this location for students to set up tents or park trucks
and RVs for the weekend. Students commonly form Campout groups to share the planning,
lodging, expenses, and the tickets won by group members. Campers will have the opportunity to
compete in the yearly basketball shootout, view classic Duke basketball games, and enjoy
karaoke and a DJ. In addition, the GPSC Basketball Committee will coordinate numerous
community service opportunities that campers may take part in on the morning of Saturday,
September 12th.
In order to participate in Campout, you must register between 9 am on Friday, August 28,
and 5 pm on Friday, September 4. Registration is online at our website,
http://www.gpsc.duke.edu/basketball.
Please read the 2009 Basketball Ticket Distribution Policy, also located on our website
for all of the campout requirements, rules, and regulations. Additionally, town hall meetings will be
held across campus during the beginning of the fall semester to answer any general Campout
questions. If you have a conflict with Campout, you may still qualify for the ticket lottery by
applying for and receiving an exemption. All those wishing to apply for an exemption from any
portion of the campout period must complete an exemption request form and return it to the
Committee no later than 5 pm on Friday, September 4, and complete the online registration
process as described above. The Basketball Committee will notify students prior to campout as to
whether their exemption request was granted. Please see our website,
http://www.gpsc.duke.edu/basketball or contact the exemptions committee at
[email protected] with questions about exemptions.
Want to get involved? Each year, Campout requires a great deal of planning. Any
interested graduate or professional student is welcome and encouraged to join the Basketball
Committee! The Committee is a large and active group, and a great way for you to get involved in
the Duke community. Much of the planning is already underway, so sign up today! Details can be
found on our website.
For more information, please visit http://www.gpsc.duke.edu/basketball. If you have any
questions, feel free to contact the 2009-2010 GPSC Basketball Committee Co-Chairs,
Felicia Hawthorne and Mark Kohler at [email protected].

I'd edited a previous statement re: lottery. There is no undergraduate student ticket lottery at Duke. There is one at Indiana though.

My nephew did, however, tent at Krzyzewskiville:

Krzyzewskiville, or K-ville for short, is a phenomenon that occurs before major men's basketball games at Duke University. In simplest terms, it is the line for students wishing to gain access to the designated tenting games. It is often mistakenly referred to as a ticket line. However, there are no student tickets; students are admitted from the line an hour and a half before each game.
My emphasis.

Also, bear in mind, that he's an undergrad at Duke-- separate rules for undergrads I believe than for the graduate students.

Edited for clarity.

Not really the new seating that bothers me, just that the section that accounts for the VAST majority of noise during games is now split, which in no way is good for atmosphere..
