The casinuh lobby is strong in MS, they don't want to lose their monopoly on in-house wagering to people sitting at home doing it on their phone or computer. The lobbyist get paid well but successfully got it squashed, this time anyway.
Would it be possible you have to have a brick and mortar casino to operate online mobile betting?

They do. And it is my understanding that's the way it would have been if passed. MGM, Caesers, etc have mobile betting apps, but currently in MS you have to be in the casino to use it. What the actual 17? They are leaving a sh*t ton of money on the table.

Oh darn, Mississippians are going to have to put in a little effort to make bad decisions.
Yeah, too bad you can't get a lottery ticket on every corner yet (or alcohol and tobacco).**
What's the difference as far as bad decisions?

They’re protecting me from myself. Thank god someone cares enough to save me from a life of regrets.

I think the difference would have been if it had passed you could use your apps which were unaffiliated with local brick and mortar casinuhs while walking down the aisle of the grocery store or place your 12:00 noon Sunday NFL bet while sitting in the church pew if you decided to thereby shutting out the local casinuhs share of anything. The locals wanted off site betting in MS but using their apps only was the way I heard it.

Surely there was a compromise to he had here. Is there no way to only allow mobile sports betting with casinos that have a brick and mortar presence in the state?

I think that was the proposal. To offer online gambling the provider had to partner with a MD land based casino.

I’m not advocating trying to change those things, but I don’t think those are good things for the general population. Let’s be willing to live with one less bad thing.

If that was the case I don't see the downside. I live in a city with a casino and I don't place sports bets. That would mean I have to get in my truck and drive 10 minutes down the road and park then walk several hundred yards just to put $25 on a game. It's not worth it to me... BUT if I could just pull out my phone from the comfort of my house and place a bet with that same casino I would.. I would think it is a net gain for the casinos so I don't understand why they were lobbying so hard against it ( if that was in fact their stance).

The fact that I can't put $20 down on the KY Derby from my phone to make it more fun is stupid. You can also not do this AT A DAMN MISSISSIPPI CASINO EITHER.

Stoopid.

You can't bet on the KY Derby in Mississippi? What the hell were the politics behind allowing sports gambling but excluding Horse racing? Some purists to committed to claiming horse racing isn't a sport?

I think publicly they want mobile sports betting. It's already out there, so they just want their cut. I suspect this was a combination of baptists being against it and some of the non-casino web betting companies fighting against legalizing it only for brick and mortar casinos. It's probably better for them to offer it illegally in Mississippi while the casinos can't than to have the casinos have a legal way to do it.

I wish the Choctaws would come out with a mobile app and claim they are an independent nation (or whatever) and offer sports betting statewide. They already have an "in casino" app, but we need one not geofenced.

Pre Ms Lottery if I ever went to Tn I always stopped and bought a lottery ticket. Since Ms legalized the lottery I may have played it twice. It’s forbidden fruit. We all want what we don’t have until we get it.

Yep. Before Yuengling beer was distributed in MS I'd bring a couple cases back from out of state. Now it's in every store and restaurant and I haven't drank one in 5+ years

I always gave my neighbor money to buy them for me in Delta, LA when I lived in Brandon. Since we have had it here I haven't bought the first ticket, I wouldn't even know how to buy one
