No one "deserves" a bowl

Used to be that a bowl game was a reward for a really good season. Not any more. Now, regardless of your record, if you get an invitation and you want to go, you go. So please don't say we didn't "deserve" a bowl if we get one. It's not relevant anymore.

I have to agree with this. Does a 6-6 record make all the difference? Lets get real here, it doesn't really matter what your record is. I long for the day when there is a 16 team playoff and maybe an "NIT" playoff for another 16. To sit here and say 5-7 isn't deserving but 6-6 is? That's just silly.

Yay!! C-A-T-S !!!......cats, cats, cats!!!!

Let's all enjoy our 5-7 record and invitation to the Bubba's Corner Garage and Feed Store Bowl, played in front of 600 echoing fans in an empty stadium.

Ostensibly it does seem kinda lame to accept a bowl game with as a losing team. On the other hand, they do have to fill those spots and should probably not even have so many bowls in the first place to water down the sport. Who knows what is the right thing to do?

Smartest post I've seen here in weeks.

It's a game created to advertise fried chicken. And force band parents to pay for hotel rooms in Montgomery Alabama so their kids can march in the parade.

And that's no less reason to get some extra practice or game time for drew barker, kengera Daniel, Josh Allen, and others.

As a society, we continue to find ways to reward mediocrity. Excellence is no longer the gold standard.

How about accepting a bowl bid with a non winning record. Does that do it for ya?

I'm still not sure. With a losing overall record, it just seems kinda cheap and easy, like we did nothing to earn the privilege. But, as the first post stated, the concept of reward has long gone out the window, thus nullifying the "incentive" of a bowl bid.

I just don't know and don't care anymore.....

Good post. I would agree. All these useless bowls do is the line pockets of those who 'run' them. Which is why they won't go away. A month long tournament is the way to go, IMO. Somehow the FCS level is able to select 24 teams, start the tournament a week after the regular season ends(it started last Friday, btw) and eventually crown a champion. And all of this occurs during school and finals! Imagine that...

4 weeks of extra practices should be enough of a reason to accept. 1/2 empty, 1/2 full
As a wise man once said (UKERIC) they have been practicing since august and have an inept offense, an inept defense and awful special teams!

In a day where everyone gets a trophy in football, we weren't even good enough to get one. That is saying a lot.
