it's a huge game for 2A, the winner has inside track to win Region D, host some playoff games and end up with a ton of power points.
If RV wins and beats Abingdon, they'll win M7, and could be top seed in Region D as they won't lose to anyone else.
same scenario if Union wins, except they have a ROUGH matchup going to Morristown West. If the Bears somehow go 10-0, they'll for sure he top seed in Region D and maybe be highest power points rating out of C/D depending on how everything plays out.
no team in Region D wants to have to play at Union in a playoff game, same for Ridgeview. Union has lost six total home games since 2011, hadn't lost a game in BSG since 2013 before Appo. Haven't lost a reg season home game since 2012. Not an easy place to win.
I think I might have been there for that last loss. Or maybe it was further back than 2013.
Its just rare you see people not involved in a game start a thread about said game.
2012. Had one player that kept trying to field all of Draft's squib kicks instead of just falling on them. Think we lost 3 of those that day.
Last playoff loss before Appo was GC in 2013 after smashing them in regular season, Union just choked.
Regular season was Sullivan North in 2012

"Union just choked " GC had nothing to do with the win, lol. Union just handed it over to them. Incredible it is how so many of your posts are excuses. The question is....has Union ever lost a game in which the other team simply beat you and outplayed you and had just a tiny shred of responsibility for getting the W?
Also, why start a thread hinting a question as to why there is no Union thread? Why not simply .....start the thread? You kind of did that, but the manner in which you started it wreaks of a chip on the shoulder.
I dont know about the other games, but both of the SD games, back to back years, SD was a little better IMO. Both teams the year at BSG were low seeds (Union 11 and SD 14, after upsets the week before). The other game at Stuarts Draft.
I would certainly think that nobody from Union could think the year before last when Appomattox beat them by a lot that Union was the better team.
How is Poquoson looking?
Poquoson is looking very good and better than last year. Poquoson will have one heck of a time with Warhill, Lafayette, York, and Smithfield. Those 4 are ridicously tough and we could very possibly be 7-3 or even 6-4 entering the playoffs. I think Appo is still the team to beat in 2A, but I wouldn't be surprised if Union, Glenvar, East Rock, Central, Goochland or Poquoson won it. I think 7 teams have a legitimate chance to win it. I would be surprised if Lee, Gretna, Richlands or Graham won it this year. As for RidgeView, I admit. I just don't know about them. We will know more when they battle Union. That is a game I would be at if living out west.
Absolutely. Appo in 2016 for one, Union got smashed .Clarke County 2015, etc...
But in 2013, Union beat GC 41-19 in regular season, then lose the playoff game in which they were much better. They choked.

Gretna should be good. Don't know if they were missing some players or what. Heritage is better I would say that the 61-? beating Northside put on them.
Well in my experience, and granted the same team won both games, but I have seen a huge turnaround between 2 rivalry teams from regular season and playoffs. Like first game was 40+ point win, playoff was 7 points and could have gone either way, even though I still think my team wasnt as good.
Just have to look back a few years when I believe it was Giles and Glenvar played regular season and Giles won 30. Next week Glenvar won by 30. I could be wrong on the teams. But it isnt impossible for that turn around. The saying certainly is true it's hard to beat a team twice, I know that from my own coaching. Its easier to fix things when you lose
Those were the teams. Giles fans were stunned to the point of nausea. All I could do was shake my head. There were no words. That may have been the best job of coaching (Glenvar's) that I've ever seen at this level. They came to our house as underdogs and dominated us.
But that GC wasn't very good, Union should not have had any issues beating them. It's def hard to beat someone twice but I think Union expected GC to roll over and once they didnt, it was too late and Union just choked.
But Radford isn't a great team, if they can shut down Gretna, Appo should be able to do same.
This game will tell the tale! Is Ridgeview the real deal as they seem to be? If they win or even keep it close, I believe I'll have a big tall glass of that Kool-aid!
If they win, they will finish 10-0 and the Region D playoffs will go thru RV. They have a legit D1 talent at RB, and two other great skill position players
Good teams don't expect ANYTHING from the opponents. Good teams have incredible expectations for themselves and have an inner focus of what they must do to win. Good teams don't choke. For example, in the game you describe, if Union did choke, then that means Gate City didn't choke. That means GC was better. My point is.....just say, "you got beat." People have more respect for fans that make no excuses, and fans that credit the opponent wgo did enough to win.
Here's an example. Poquoson lost in OT to Lee last year in the state semis. Want to know why? Because Lee outplayed us and won and was better, PERIOD. There were no bad calls or blocks in the backs not called by officials or choking and we didn't "give them anything." The above excuses are all ones in which you claimed happened to Union vs Appo last year. It again, shows that chip on your shoulder. It shows a losing mentality because losing mentalities make excuses.
I'm not making excuses. Gate City was clearly better that day and that's all that matters. Union played FAR from their best, hence my choking comment, as they had shown they were capable of beating GC handily, but they came out too confident, GC had great game plan, and Union got beat.

Big win for RidgeView. That kind of win gets people's attention for sure. The question I have is......who is the 2 seed in that region IF Ridgeview goes undefeated and Union and Graham finish 9-1. I know Graham still has Richlands and lots of football left, but......if Union and Graham go 9-1, who will out-point who and be the two seed.
I haven’t researched it but last year 9-1 Graham was a bounce or two away from outpointing 10-0 union. It looks like the schedules are the same and their opponents will win around the same amount of games so it I had to guess it would be graham.
if Grayson can beat Galax to end the year they have a real shot of being 9-1 and it wouldn’t surprise me if they pulled the #2 over a 9-1 graham and Union

I've heard there's a chance that ifUnion beats MW, it's possible the power points could favor Union . Not sure it's true, just what I've heard since Union's OOC schedule was much stronger.
But RV sure smacked Union around, Union has their chances, down 21-14 driving to tie it up before the INT, but overall RV was better.
And Sexton, not Adkins, seemed to be best player on field, he killed us
We have potentially three opponents who could go 9-1. Shelby Valley, you guys and Grundy. If they all do, that's 54 bonus points. MW only counts for 4A points for you even though they're 6A Tennessee. And they're not one of the better teams in that district. Pike Central will hurt us a lot... I believe they got their only win this season last week when they beat Hurley... but that's countered by you guys who played Letcher Central who probably picked up their only win of the season last night over.... Pike Central. Lol
First official power points should be released after next week's slate of games, but after week 4, according to my math, it looks like this in Region 2D: 1. Ridgeview 23; 2. Virginia High 19; 3. Union 18.5; 4. Grayson County 18; 5. Graham 17; 6. John Battle 15.5; 7. Lee High 14.25; 8. Richlands 13.66667; 9. Marion 12.66667; 10. Wise Central 12.33333; 11. Tazewell 11.66667; 12. Gate City 10.75; 13. Lebanon 8.25
Not unless Ridgeview stumbles against Abingdon and Union beats Abingdon I believe.
