or I assumed the meeting they were talking about was the one where the looked at the background checks.

Either way, I have a hard time believing Watson did anything wrong -- although stranger things have happened. Meredith on the other hand -- no problem believing that.

I have said on this board that I can't believe IHL or Mereidth individually would ever be so biased as to not find absolutely the best candidate for the MSU President, even though Meredith is a UM guy. I have been corrected several times by people much more familar with the situation than I am. They say the guy is a pompus ***, and is hugely biased in favor of OM -- even to the point of burying huge appropriations for OM in the minutia of the IHL budget.

using the CL for gotcha purposes. I think this smells suspiciously like the Templeton situation where the CL was used to expose Templeton's little f-up with the MSU Foundation money. [Yeah, yeah, you can argue that Templeton didn't do anything. Save it. We all know Templeton's surrogates on the Foundation Board did whatever he said]. That set the wheels in motion for him getting shitcanned [and I'm damn glad he's gone].

If this results in Meredith getting shitcanned, then wonderful.

Just freaking come out and say it in plain english. What is the issue? Can't anyone just explain it without posting links and speaking in tongues?

that Vance Watson sent MSU landscaping to do Tom Meredith's house in Jackson. So with that handshake, anything else could have happened like the IHL pushing Watson for president. There are two people on the IHL that want to suspend the search for president and waste more taxpayer money.

From what I can tell, it's time to name Mark Keenum president now. The main issue is that Keenum should be president. The landscaping thing is just something that is coming out in the papers.

the IHL has wasted far too much time and money when the best candidate is ready to jump at this job.

We can now assume that Meredith stood between Keenum and the presidency, and, so, he had to be "removed." Bye, bye, Mr. Meredith.

you and everybody else thinks it ought to be Keenum.

Understand that I'm not against him by any means, I just don't understand why so many support him. Some of my friends that actually know him just shrug their shoulders at him being the Pres. I've heard many times that, while he'd be a solid choice, he's not particularly personable or dynamic. I've even heard that his wife might make a better leader.

Let me emphasize that these are just things I've heard. I've never met Mark Keenum. Never heard him speak. All I know about him is what I've read or been told.

at least 20 people have said Keenum should be our president. I have yet to hear anyone say Vance Watson should be our president. Nothing against Watson but everyone that I have talked to wants Keenum.

but it primarily relates to legislative control over funding decisions at the IHL level. Let's just say he enjoys his uneven playing field and leave it at that. I'm not discussing this aspect of it further, so don't ask.

I said nothing about Watson.

My question is, why Keenum? Is "at least 20 people have said Keenum should be our president," all you got? I want to know why?

Like I said, some people I know, people that know him, aren't all that fired up about him. They're not against him, they just take a "he'd be OK" stance.

he has some nice connections with the federal government. That might be a must for us since the college board is Ole Miss dominated.

a. a pretty damn big deal in the ag industry...which is something State and MS are kind of into.
b. connected in D.C.
c. MSU guy but hasnt been entrenched in MSU forever so he brings an outsiders prospective.
d. regarded by most as a pretty damn smart guy
e. would be here a while and give us stability and the leadership we need.

I've heard him speak and he won't electrify you, but he's certainly not Charles Lee. There is a reason his name keeps coming up and its not out of sympathy.

I just gave more reasons to name him than I have for voting for my preferred candidate in the pres election.

is that any federal money that State would obtain used to come directly to the university. Now it is funneled through the IHL and appropriated how the IHL sees fit. And Khayat is in Tom Meredith's ear.

My terminology could be off but off of memory, that's what I heard.

I could have been completely wrong. No idea if it was federal money or not. It was some type of money. This is when foglesong went down is when I heard that rumor.

supposedly Khayat was meddling with our president search and wanted Fogelsong to come in to try to "ruin" the University.

IF that's true, it could come back to haunt them because the one good thing Doc did was get rid of LT. Pretty ironic coming from a guy who wanted our football program shut down after the 2001 Egg Bowl.

even before Doc went down-- it was reported meredith was going to try to have all fed funding go through the IHL. Thankfully, that appears to be impossible.

so the real answer is, it's a conspiracy theory, and no one has any proof.

What if maybe, Khayat was pushing for someone specific, because he thought he was the best candidate? I know, it's crazy, right?

Why the hell do we even need the IHL to tell us who our next president is going to be? There is a need for them to appropriate state money, but not the next president. I think that the university should make that decision.

yes, that would be crazy for Khayat. The fact is, both Universities are businesses. We survive based on enrollment and alumni, along with all of the federal and state grants. The more alumni and students you have, the more money you have, and the more people you have as graduates that promote the University.

Khayat wanting to promote someone good for MSU would be like the CEO of McDonald's wanting someone good to be the CEO of Wendy's.
