45% three point shooter last year on about 4 attempts per game.
Not sure why you would say that, this kid will be our starting point guard if he comes here.would seem our best target out there, will he be willing to perhaps not play 32 minutes a game where at Butler he almost certainly will
absolutely not so thats why I would not get too excited about this5'11"? Are there other Big Ten guards with similar size?
How is his defense going to play in the BT?
Is HC Pike going to bury a sophomore Simpson for a 1 year rental?
Dug McDaniel, Braden Smith... Tyson Walker even is listed at 6'1".5'11"? Are there other Big Ten guards with similar size?

Simpson is not a true point guard, can back up both the 1 and 2. We have trouble getting past midcourt in under 10 seconds with both Paul and Derek. This guy would be a breath of fresh air bringing the ball up the court and setting up the offense, and then add to that the fact he is an excellent 3 point shooter.5'11"? Butler is going to be awful so if he chooses them it's because he wants to put up numbers, which means he would not have been a good fit here anyway.would seem our best target out there, will he be willing to perhaps not play 32 minutes a game where at Butler he almost certainly will
Exactly! You can't say that the Big Ten suffers because they're lacking dynamic guard play and then turn your nose up at a guy like this.
Watching his tape he's less athletic than I anticipated -- he's not blowing by guys to get to the rim. But he's very crafty getting to his shot and his 2P% isn't wildly inefficient or anythng.Exactly!
5'11" Noah Fernandes had 16 points and 11 assists with Paul/Caleb and whoever else guarding him when he played us.
Comparing him in only ONE specific skill, the way he gets in the paint and creates space for his shot looks like Chris Paul.Watching his tape he's less athletic than I anticipated -- he's not blowing by guys to get to the rim. It's a sign the coaching staff knows something we don't as far as Paul returning.Looking at the UMass schedule,
He played in the first 7 games, UMass went 6-1, wins over Colorado, Murray St, Charlotte, and Harvard when injured.
UMass finished the season 15-16, 9-15 after he went down. He played in 4 games, Dec-Jan, before shutting it down and UMass went 1-3 in those 4 games, FG 52.4%, 3pt 47.4%, 16.8pts, 5.3asts. eFG 63.1%.
This would be an ideal 1 year rental if Paul decides to not come back, he doesn't come here if Paul returns.
Your last sentence is why I want him along with his stats and skills.Interesting player, definitely more of an orchestrating guard. If it helps with the New England marketplace or AAU affiliates there, I'm all in.
He definitely gives us a different look or style of play, vs what we have on the roster.
Why would he potentially not play 32 minutes per game? You figure he slots in for Caleb's minutes. Even if Paul returns there is still going to be plenty of time to go around.would seem our best target out there, will he be willing to perhaps not play 32 minutes a game where at Butler he almost certainly will
Still want Paul to return. I think we go after someone like Noah regardless. It's a sign the coaching staff knows something we don't as far as Paul returning.
Just got done doing a writeup on him if anyone's interested...
UMass' Noah Fernandes is listed at 5-11, 180 lbs and went to HS at Woodstock Academy in Mattapoisett, MA. He signed with Wichita State out of HS and spent one year that before transferring to UMass. He entered the portal on March 13th and has 1 year of eligibility remaining.
Rutgers fans should remember him from this moment in 2021...
Fernandes only played in 11 games in 2022-23 due to an ankle injury he sustained in December. Prior to the injury, he was averaging 13.4 ppg (48% FG percentage, 45.2% 3 pt percentage on 4 attempts/game), 4.1 assists/game, 1.3 steals/game and 64% from the FT line. In his career at UMass, he's averaged 76% from the line, 38.5% from 3, 13.6 ppg, 4.9 assist/game and 1.5 steals/game.
Evan Miya has him ranked as the 41st ranked player in the portal out of 1,281 players who have entered the portal this offseason.
Fernandes is an undersized guard but has the ability to create his own shot and also create for others. He's a high level shooter from deep and his go-to move is his crossover and pull-up jumper. He's got a deep bag of moves and reads defenses well. He's got a quick trigger finger and doesn't hesitate when an open shot presents itself, even when from 27 ft+. He'd be a fantastic addition to this team as he's also a very good defender...
Either Paul is not back or he'll be in a different role.Still want Paul to return. I think we go after someone like Noah regardless.
Agree. And Paul could also take minutes of Hyatt if he does not return. Why would he potentially not play 32 minutes per game? You figure he slots in for Caleb's minutes. Even if Paul returns there is still going to be plenty of time to go around.
I can't see three fifth year guards in the backcourt, only way this works is moving Paul back to a forward spot with Mag, if healthy in November, Derek has to be the first guard off the bench next year getting 20-25 minutes with Paul/Cam or Noah/Cam, and Jamichael Davis, 2nd guard off the bench. It's a sign the coaching staff knows something we don't as far as Paul returning.
