John is a really good follow in the FSU space.

I think he's doing a good job highlighting one of FSU's issues: its ideal personnel would be more two-back and getting more receivers on the field, but its offensive line doesn't look anywhere near as good as it was last year. The tight ends don't look good at all so far, but you can't leave the O-line in this state, naked out there to release five men into the route. You need the tight ends in the run game, but you also need them to actually block, which they didn't do very well. You probably need a quarterback who can process faster, so you probably can't get three receivers and two backs on the field very often, given your issues up front with O-line and tight end.

Alford is the one who ushered out Mike Martin and facilitated the exit of Leonard Hamilton. If the issue is Norvel's contract, it shouldn't be. He was given that contract after 10-2 and 13-0 seasons back-to-back. No one was complaining then. If they say they did, they are lying.

Football, sadly, is what matters. The football program props up all other sports...the athletic department is built on it. That's why ADs/HCs of Blue Blood programs fire coaches with winning records all the time.

I do wonder if there aren't some other things that went into the decision to fire Alford - maybe some unhappiness related to the stadium renovations, how we've gone about spending on players in the new world, etc. As for coaching decisions...

Football, Norvell was here before Alford. I had no problem with going hard to keep Norvell after the 2023 season. We were riding a 19 game win streak and were suffering from the snub. The top program in the nation was pursuing him; we were bent over a barrel and had to spend the money to keep him onboard. I do think we should've come up with a way to move on after last season - the long-term costs of sucking likely will be more expensive than making a change would have been.

Baseball, Junior was here before him, he made the correct decision to move on. Jarrett appears to be a solid choice as the new coach.

Hoops, same as above; Ham was here & entrenched, we made the correct decision to help him out the door, and again the new guy, Loucks, seems to have us going in the right direction.

Soccer, I believe Alford was here and involved in the falling out with Krekorian, which was bad - lost a coach of the national champions over, well, I don't really know what. But the replacement has been great and we've continued to be one of the top programs in the country.

Other sports, I have no idea. But the head coaching decisions haven't been awful overall (other than, of course, the fact that the decision to extend Norvell has turned out bad - my point is that, when it was done, it was a reasonable decision; in hindsight we should've let him go to Bama and sought someone else).

saw an article in the Orlando Sentinel that reported part of the problem with Alford was fund raising....seems as if the noles doesn't have enough money to be competitive in today's world
