After going to the Peach Bowl in 1993, I became convinced that North Carolina is the Ole Miss of the Eastern Seaboard. This only reinforces this notion.

The guy meant to run into him, sure - and by run into I meant just give him a little bump - but he didn't meant to injure anyone. Football is a contact sport, but like any competition there is a psychological aspect. He meant to bump to intimidate and irritate the WR. To do so without penalty, it would have to be unintentional so he stared at his defensive teammates. That leg came back pretty quickly too. I don't think it was a cheap shot.

To me, it looks like he didn't see the leg pop out, or he didn't see the player at all - which seems a little unlikely.
Or he meant to kick the WR in the leg.

All of that is fine and well but there is still no excuse for that not being 15 yards. Sure, the guy hammed it up a bit, but there is no way in hell that t-boning a guy in the back during a dead ball while substituting shouldn't be 15. You don't get to take that shot for free. The refs ****** that up.

It's all based on referee discretion. Some refs would have called it, but apparently the refs that night didn't see it as a penalty. I was surprised that I didn't see a flag throw a flag

Wish the Sec had the nuts to go public with suspensions of officials

For missing calls. Got to protect the big boys though.

I just find it hard to believe in the kid's remorse for the hit. If he was truly sorry and it was an accident, why didn't he stop, turn around, help the guy up and apologize then and there? isn't that what a normal person would do if this had happened?

He lowered his shoulder before the hit. If it had happened during a play it would have been a block in the back. The Duke guy never saw him coming. Flagrant foul.
