Newton Conover @ Alexander Central

Newton Conover has really fallen off over the years. Alexander Central are looking to make a move and should be improved this year.

Alexander Central 34
Newton Conover 14

Patton @ Freedom

Could this be Freedoms year to overtake Watauga and win the conference? It should be a fun battle at the top. Patton returns to varsity football after not fielding a team. This one won't be close.

Freedom 49
Patton 7

RS Central @ McDowell

This game is a barometer for both teams and is usually a one score game. RS returns some pieces and the Titans have a new coach, offensive system and some new kids giving football a try along with most of their skill players back from last season. Special teams and turnovers will likely decide who wins this one.

McDowell 35
RS Central 34

West Caldwell @ South Caldwell

South Caldwell had an ok year last year but lost some pieces. They should dominate against their rivals

South Caldwell 48
West Caldwell 20

St Stephens @ Bandys

St Stephens looked pretty good and tied Statesville in a scrimmage so they might have a decent season. Going with the upset here.

St Stephens 21
Bandys 20

Ashe County @ Watauga

Watauga lost some good players including their QB, but doubt them at your own peril. They should win pretty easily here.

Watauga 41
Ashe 15

I think you've got the picks right, though a couple of those games could go either way. It would be great for the conference to start play with everyone getting a win. Given that there's a new playoff format this year and it will all be based on RPI I wonder how many teams will make the playoffs. I think there could be only two from 6A and I would be surprised if McDowell made the 7A bracket.

Patriots all over the Panthers 46-6. Big game for Kaden Davis with multiple touchdowns passing and running. Patton got a TD late after the running clock had started.

Only real surprise was Alexander Central getting blown out in the 2nd half after leading. Watauga and Freedom rolled. South Caldwell was in a dog fight for a while before pulling away late. Saint kept it close but just didn't have enough offense. McDowell rallied from an 11 point 3rd quarter deficit.
