Alexander Central vs Ashe County

It's been a rough season so far for AC. Ashe could be the elixir needed for their first win.

Alexander Central 35
Ashe 21

Freedom @ East Burke

Another blowout win for the Patriots. The Reynolds game in a few weeks will be their first true test.

Freedom 49
East Burke 7

South Caldwell @ Tuscola

South needs to get back on track, Tuscola is average, but are tough to beat in Waynesville.

Tuscola 28
South Caldwell 21

St. Stephens vs Hibriten

This is an interesting game for me. Hibriten rolled South Caldwell, but Saint is coming off a big win over Bunker Hill and could keep it close. How close this game is could tell a lot about who's going to finish 3rd in the conference.

Hibriten 41
St Stephens 21

Mt Airy @ Watauga

The game of the week in the conference for sure. Watauga looks good; they have been consistently good under Habich. Mt Airy is one of the best 3A teams and will be physical and give Watauga their best test of the early season.

Watauga 28
Mt Airy 14

Don't think Saint's Offense can do much against HHS Defense. I think Hibriten's offense will wear down Saint.

Patriots picking up plenty of wins and playing time down the roster, but the strength rating on MaxPreps is awful. As it looks now only wins over ACR and Watauga can help that and move them up in the postseason seeding. Lose both and they're still probably 8-2 but could be on the road in the first round. Bear in mind that the top 8 seeds get first round byes now.

If Mt Airy was healthy and fully dressed out I would give the Granite Bears a slight nod.
However, the Allstate RB is OUT, a Defensive Stand Out with some D1 conversations is most likely out, and main wide receiver status is undecided.

Watauga should handle Mt Airy, my question is how close can Mt Airy defense keep the game.

This sounds like a lot of excuses to me. I feel like Mt. Airy and their coaching staff will suit up and to the best of their ability and the chips will fall where they may. The team that makes more plays and executes their game plan better will walk away with the W. I believe Mt. Airy has some good depth and it should be an interesting match up.

Nobody is making excuses! Telling facts is Telling Facts, in response to fact that we have a couple of starters was questioned was being questioned.
After that, having a little tongue in cheek fun. My Lord some of the posters here must be from the Smokey Mountain conference and got lost on their journey to the NEW Board.

Lighten up and have a little fun.

Seems like the only real questions are 1. Can freedom keep it close with Watauga because nobody else will and 2. Who will finish 3rd?

Id say Saint finishes 3rd. I thought Watauga might be down losing a 4 year starter at QB but good grief they might be better this year than last.

EB got two TDs in trash time last night, but they drove the length of the field for their other score. Against both Draughn and Patton they both only moved the ball late in the second half, but the Cavs made yardage against our first team defense. We'll see how it goes next week against TCR. I think that may be the first real indication of what kind of team Freedom has this year.

Between them and McDowell as I think the Titans might be on the upswing with their new coach.

Our big problem is defense. I think we can score against most teams (minus Watauga and maybe Freedom) but we can't stop the run.

I think it's between St Stephens, Alex Central and McDowell for 3rd. South Caldwell seems destined for last.
