Johnson will go to USC now too not coming here
I am afraid this could be true. Johnson loves Williams, but he has never seemed that interested in Nebraska. I think people were quick to connect the dots with Williams coming here and Lewis being a lean, but I'm not sure how interested Johnson is in leaving the West Coast.

Yep. Not holding breath on Graham. Sucks he won't be N. Sigh. Really going to be living on the sword's edge in January. It's time for at least 1-2 commits in the next week or two.

Win the bowl game (Tennessee is not even close to invincible like I've been hearing) and recruits will still see the season as a progress. Let's get 10 wins and we may save this 2017 class.

Even if we lose I don't think we lose this class. A win certainly helps, but let's not automatically assume the class will need saving if we lose...

rrt... Since Lenoir is likely to follow Graham/Taggert back to Oregon...

Are our best shot at DB's Greg Johnson and Elijah Blades?

I assume Darnay Holmes is out considering our coaches didn't even do an in home with him over the 2 week contact period.

Hafiz? I honestly will be extremely disappointed

Just my guess but I could see us getting Greg Johnson and Hafiz. Lenoir not as confident about. IMO Holmes was never serious about us.

Yes and coach just visited him before the dead period. It is possible but I am doubtful.
Agreed. I'm pretty confident we will get Hafiz. About 50/50 on Johnson and not very confident at all on Blades and Lenoir. And haven't heard anything on Kurl and Cotton for a while. I guess we will all know soon enough.

Hafiz needs to go to Iowa State or Indiana. Listen I know Hafiz could end up better than all of the others, my problem with Hafiz is that means our coaches failed to land their top choices. I am the type that would rather take nothing at all than sloppy seconds.

I don't care about stars and so on. What killed our recruiting under Bo was roster management and recruiting too many guys who ended up being total duds.

If Riley and staff can recruit to our roster needs, and fill those needs with competent, hard working, and coachable athletes, that is all I care about. Sure the big name studs would be great. And we may yet get one or two. But even if we don't, there is still hope for a very solid class

That is a very Iowa-esque line of reasoning. We need big-name studs now. I don't want to see Nebraska rank in the 25-35-40 range, and have to read, "oh, well. Still a solid class."

I agree but baby steps. Sure I want the big name guys but it is looking more and more like we may not get them. So my only point is that even if we don't not all is lost. We can still build a solid foundation and field teams that don't get blown out in big games and are competitive. Then build from there.

What more recruiting wise can be done? Can't put guns to heads and demand verbal commitments. We have gotten a lot of big names to visit so the sales pitches aren't exactly falling on deaf ears.

I get that all programs have nice facilities now, but no offense to Iowa, Wisconsin, Oklahoma St., Mississippi St., Ole Miss, ect... The Nebraska "Name" (as far as accolades go) is in the same breath as thr Ohio St., Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan's... yet we have been recruiting on par with the mid tier for too F***ing long. No more baby steps. This is the year that needs to get the big dogs... "THIS YEAR" not next year... no building a foundation. They were here, they have all seen it. We have a brand name. How many other schools can claim 5 MNC's??? We should not be losing top tier recruits to schools like Utah.

No more or this "Next year" ****. 5-7 to 9-3 is a good jump in a year, but next year I want to see another jump. No more plateauing... Iowa fans and Wisconsin fans don't get it. We were there for 40 years... We were a consistent top 10 team for 40 Freaking years. No way should we settle for mid tier recruits. We need to get back to the top like all other powers do.

Tennessee vs Nebraska Bowl should be called the "Has been bowl" No other power schools have been down longer than the two schools in this bowl

I share your frustration and sentiments. I think most on here feel the same. But what are you going to do? Fire Riley?

I know you don't believe in the step approach, but before this staff we weren't even getting elite players on campus. Now we are. Almost all of them. It will pay off, but much to your dismay, it may not be this year.

I believe that they are laying a foundation for the future, and soon enough, Nebraska will be a destination for top players. If I'm wrong, we will fire these coaches and go in a different direction and hope to recapture what we used to have, no matter how elusive it has been.

Concerning Thomas Graham. Did anyone think he was coming here before the DWilliams hire? Serious question, I don't know. Maybe DWilliams is a better recruiter, but not good enough to perform miracles.

Concerning the bigger picture, here's espn's B1G all freshman team. Tre Bryant made it for kick returns, no other Huskers. I guess there weren't any opportunities for Riley's recruits to step in and show solid contributions? Next year do we say "next year", and so on.

Now I won't go all chicken little over recruiting or "building a solid foundation". We have until February for recruiting, and it could go well or bad. The staff may have different motives for keeping certain guys as redshirts? BUT, until this team has difference makers, it won't make a difference.

I don't know why I log onto this board anymore. Every time I do there is another depressing post. I don't blame the posters for posting the bad news, I'm just having a problem these days dealing with reality.

Sure. But if the results are the same as Riley's pathetic and immediate predecessors, then we have a problem.

And I'm not entirely opposed to the gun-head idea. :)

It's funny to see many of the very same posters who were saying we have no talent, preemptively defending what could possibly be poor recruiting, in year 3 of the current regime's recruiting efforts.

I'll grant Riley and company a reprieve for 2015, but certainly not for last year. This year he needs to put the big players into his system. If not, it will be more excuses and similar results to that of the past two seasons, in my opinion.

Iowa fans are douche nozzles..
I would say cut Iowa fan some slack. He's pissed because in spite of recent handwringing over recruits backing out this staff he is badmouthing is still going to outrecruit Iowa.

I know, I know, now the coaches need to coach. But let's see how good this team can be with a QB they want for their system. Things could turn quickly for Iowa if we establish any sort of upgrade to talent and coaching... now we are waiting to see it. And if it happens, we will pull away from Iowa and everybody else in the west. Will it happen? Guess we'll find out...
