We're two games ahead of my expectations for this first stretch of conference play. Thought we would be 8-10 with two series wins, but instead we're 10-8 with five series wins. Wish we could've gotten one sweep and salvaged one game against A&M, but we're still in great position.
Governor's Cup is important for RPI purposes and because I have no desire to split the season series with them. Let's win it definitively, even if we already won the more important games. They are starting Chad Smith, who we hit pretty hard in Starkville. I'm expecting pretty heavy work from Brown and Cyr. This is the highest RPI game remaining on our schedule, so I hope we use anyone and everyone necessary.
Bama could be tricky for us. Not a great hitting team, but they can really pitch. Lost two extra inning games at A&M this weekend and spanked them on Saturday. They also have series wins against LSU and Ole Miss and a respectable conference record relative to their schedule. That's a series where losing two wouldn't be a huge blow, and winning two would be pretty impressive. I'll be there on Saturday.
Barring a major collapse, we're a lock to host and have a 50/50 shot of being a national seed. Win each of the last four series with one sweep and I feel pretty confident we get a natty seed.
