Whether it's this year or next, I'll be curious to see how your team changes with the loss of Varnado. It'll obviously force you to do things much differently defensively. I know you've had great team defense the past couple years. I'll be curious to see how much of that is coaching/talent, and how much of that is simply JV changing the game.

I'd be curious to see where they get their info on JV. I wouldn't think that he'd be leaning toward going, but then again I don't know his draft projection. If you're projected first round or projected lottery, you need to go.

I really don't think he will leave. But we all know how things go once they get in the draft and start having their heads filled with bs

One foot out the door.
I think everyone knew he was going to go to the NBA camps. He's not signing an agent and pretty much is going for feedback on what he needs to work on. Now if he shows out and really wows some NBA teams, then start worrying. But after the Washington game, I think it's pretty safe to say he's not ready...

can you imagine him trying to gaurd shaq....shaq posts up on the block and calls for the ball....quick turn around power move and that would be the end of varnardo's nba career because he would be in a body cast laid up in the hospital.....if not dead.

Could be he would generate enough interest this year but it depends and the rest of the class coming out and we are no where near knowing how that stacks up. Right now I would guess he is probably not going to be in the first two rounds and will return.

It is in his best interest to attend the camps and see how he stacks up.

I think he'd be crazy not to declare so he can get some feedback from the nba teams. He'd also be crazy to stay in the draft because I don't think there's any way he'd get drafted.

a) Bail on MSU early & become a forgotten bench warmer in Europe.

b) Return to Miss. State & be one of the most talked about & celebrated college seniors in America next year (not to mention being the best player on a damn good team).

Whether he chooses a or b is, of course, up to him.

Hell, Stephen Jackson plays PF half the time for Golden State....well, at least when he was active.

Compared to Kirilenko in Utah, or at least a poor man's version. Offensively he can't do the things that Kirilenko can, but defensively he would provide the athletic presence around the rim being able to provide solid help defense. He would never be able to play the 5, and depending on the type of team, he probably couldn't play the 4.

You put him at New York, Golden State, or Phoenix where they would play him at the 3/4 hybrid position.

I think Bill Simmons had a great article about the NBA being a specialty league: 3 point shooting, defensive stoppers, rebounders, scorers, and distributors and that if a player can do one thing great, the NBA will find a place for that player. Well Varnado is a great shot blocker and is athletic. He also has a quick dunk move that can be effective. On the right team he could get minutes and provide some defense and rebounding and possibly some garbage points.

This year's draft is supposedly really piss poor, and though most years Varnado wouldn't get drafted in the first round, maybe he does this year, I doubt it though. I don't think another year does anything to improve that, so what it comes down to is whether he wants to go to work and try and get on a team and/or D-league or put off doing that for another season and have fun in college.

Its a tough call.</p>

both are too small right now, but there may not be anything gained by coming back next year, especially with the weak class in the draft.

We basically know what both have to offer, and whether coming back will help their stock is a crapshoot.

Unless you are talking about being able to draft a Blake Griffin or Ricky Rubio, NBA teams would much rather sign 2 second round picks with their minimum salary and no 3 year guarantee.

Teams supposedly will be drafting Euro players that can't even come over to the NBA, so that they don't have to sign someone to a 3 year deal.

You will see more teams selling first round picks than ever before.

his draft profile says "mid to late first round", and states that he's been on the first round bubble all year. also, ford expects him to declare, but not hire an agent (ie test the waters). i think this was to be expected.

Check the Mock drafts in a week or so and I bet he will be there now...

I told everyone that he is gone, and now it is just a matter of time. He must know that Kodi is leaving and is tired of having no inside help and living and dying by the 3 ball. Not to mention if he makes the first round then he is rich *****!!!
