Not Shapen’s fault

I am flabbergasted by the number of people on this board (and on socials) who are blaming the QB. Shapen had 381 yards and 4 TDs. The offense scored 38 points.

Defense and clock management. That is all.
And to give these tards a little perspective. Shapin is ahead of Chambliss in pass yards, completions, comp % (by 5 pts) and overall RTG. He's 5th overall in Pass yards just behind Reed.

If you want to criticize him for the OT possession, that’s fine. He had Thompson for a TD on the first play and missed him and then it went downhill from there.

I don’t really feel that you can blame him for the two three and out’s, though, when you consider what those plays were.

Drive 1: Booth rush for 1 yard, sack, sack
Drive 2: Booth run for 4, pass to Thompson for 5 yards, KT run for no gain

What part of those two drives are on Shapen? Even if he avoids the sacks and throws it away, you’re still punting on the first drive.

That’s all good but who is ahead in winning games?

Shapen did play great last night but you can’t deny he shrinks when the game is on the line.
With the game on the line he made a very nice improvised scramble and shuttle pass to his RB to extend the lead. Shapen played well last night, a heck of a lot better than the dumb dumb taking snaps for Texas. Lebby did nothing to take the pressure off his guys last night and he has taken no responsibility for it. These close losses are on Lebby. Opponents have a say in execution and most of our opponents have personnel advantages. Lebby is failing in the decisions that go beyond Xs and Os. He made enough good play calls to win but he failed to play the clock and mitigate the possible damage from bad situations. Sometimes those things make the difference.

I guess our defensive coaches don't coach against roughing the passer. Special teams coaches must not be coaching punt return coverage. I would strongly consider replacing these guys for a starter. Then, perhaps looking at a better OL coach.

So with the "game on the line" do you put on an arm-tackling clinic and giveup a 79 yd punt return?
Should have never punted to him anyways. Punt it Rugby Style (A$$ over Tea Kettle) or try and coffin kick. Lot of factors played into that Meltdown.

IDK, maybe the teams w/ a better supporting cast( the other 21 players)? And maybe the ones that haven't let their qb get sacked 27 times?....i'd start there.
So the supporting cast is good enough to allow him to put up good stats but not good enough to help win games? None of the offense disappearing is on shapen? But the ability to get leads in the first place is all Shapen? It can’t be both.

Booth certainly looked good on that little 2 yard flip pass that he took to the end zone. I can tell you from watching the game in person, Thompson is open damn near every play. He’d have about 5 more touchdowns this year if Shapen was more accurate.

I’m not trying to say Shapen is dog ****. We could definitely do worse than Shapen. But you can’t act like Shapen is even a remotely clutch player.

it was Shapen's best game. but in the clutch when we really needed Him he folded like a cheap lawn chair. The game was in his hands the 3 games we could have won, he failed in all three. First and goal from the 5--in fg range and throw int., and Saturday.

Who threw the ball four feet behind a wide open Thompson on slants twice in crucial moments?

I'll hang up and listen.
