and we knew pretty much from the time he committed that we would get him contingent upon him not getting an OSU offer. And You DON'T lose a guy you asked to greyshirt because if you really wanted him now you wouldn't ask that, you would just sign him. Fact is, Austin is an excellent athlete but extremely raw as a receiver and a major grade risk. Just can't take the risk on a guy you don't think you can get eligible like you used to when you could oversign. We haven't lost Jones. Mix will be back in the boat soon as well.We essentially are hoping to replace 2 years of Corey Smith with 4 years of Fred Ross... and have already replaced 4 years of Scott Austin with 4 years of De'Runnya Wilson. From where I'm sitting, that looks like a pretty decent trade-off if we can get Ross. Certainly not 100% ideal(I wanted to keep Smith), but pretty good nonetheless. You've basically got to add Carr to this recruiting class as well -- which is another 4* receiver -- since that's a weapon that we're going to have that wasn't here last year.
we go from like #12 rated crootin class in the country, to losing 3* Dandy Dozen Austin, 3* Dandy Dozen Mix, 4* JUCO Smith, 5* Jones. And for our trouble, we gained a bunch of hopefully under-rated guys in Gray, Williams, Cleveland and Wilson. Hope the coaches know what they are doing.
All that, and we're STILL #19 in the rankings (including Jones I guess). I go by Scout, so I don't know about the other sites.
EXACTLY like 2 years ago. I am curious to see what went on behind the scenes with Austin and Mix, and whatever ends up happening with Jones. Smith is at least understandable, he's from Ohio.
1. he is a total douche and just pushing the OM agenda or 2. he is so incompetent he should resign his job as a recruiting reporter given he is so out of the loop to say a guy who only had a greyshirt offer "flipped"douchebag..
floating around out there but I don't believe he has actually been to UCLA. If he took a trip out there its totally gone under the radar and undocumented by anyone. What I have heard is that he was wearing UCLA garb (supposedly provided him by UCLA) either on his OV to us or when we visited him and that our staff wasn't exactly thrilled about it and that Mullen didn't help matters when he got involved. But even with that information I don't know what is solid and what is not so who knows. However, whatever happened, Mix is likely going to take a trip somewhere this weekend with the most likely destination being Auburn. Still think we are the favorite because of proximity and his Mom wanting him relatively close but its no slam dunk.Jones=Solid; Mix=notsosure. Something/one pissed him off. The "rumors" are Mullen got testy when he decided to take a trip to Caley-fornia, and disrespected him in front of family. Not sure what to believe, but he has been radio silent ever since. Jones is as solid as he has always been. If Dano really got in his face for taking a visit, we've got a problem. The "commits can't visit" policy punishable by the coach getting all drill sergeant in your face, is going to show diminishing returns, in my opinion. Personally, I find it (mildly) insulting when someone says that we can't let our commits look around because they will then surely flip on us. Why? Do you think our campus completely sucks and can't complete with the likes of Fayetteville or Knoxville? Bulldawg sh*t. If they flip just because of a better bar scene, they probably weren't a fit anyway, and they'll under produce. It's like the sensitive nerd instructor said in Philosophy 201--"If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, its yours forever. If it doesn’t, then it was never meant to be, and was never yours to begin with."
You won't ever find out what happened behind the scenes. Did we every hear the truth about Can Newton? Cj johnson? Coaches won't ever talk about this type stuff.
