Basketball will always be king here, but there's plenty of fanhood to go around to enjoy and support the hell out of both.

That's what I love about Kentucky. We are a college sports state, and as much tradition as basketball has here, us Kentuckians love football too. The football program has a ton of potential for that reason, among others.

What if both are equally as good and both are loved equally? I have to admit football is my favorite sport so I have always dreamed of UK doing good in football. With football doing what it has recently, I just wait to get into basketball a little later. But love both the same.

Basketball will always be first, even in the down years. I support both but there are so many special memories with basketball. There is a reason that Allen is coming here, in the town we came from you shoot hoops pretending you are a UK player. The basketball program has inspired many and I'm glad that I got to be part of the late nineties and Cal's tenure. I hope the football program continues to grow and one day rivals programs like Ohio State. However, I can still remember things like my neighbor only going to church until UK lost in the tournament or if they won going all year. The memories of watching games with family members, who are no longer with us. This is why basketball will always be first but I want all Wildcat sports to succeed.

Billy Donovan won back-to-back championships, went to a couple more Final Fours and several Elite Eights. In other words, the program had sustained success for nearly two decades. Did Florida become a basketball school? Not even close.

Kentucky football has a long way to go to match what Florida did in basketball beginning in 1999. And it still didn't change the culture in Gainesville -- and it wouldn't in Lexington.

You’re talking about 116 years of basketball and 8 titles so I doubt it. But feel free to cheer for both with the same amount of enthusiasm and excitement.

Plenty of bbn fans for both sports. What fan wouldn't be hyped about excelling in both sports? :cool2: Go Cats!

I gotta admit, I have more interest in football than I ever have before. I watch college football all Saturday long, I can’t say that for NCAA basketball anymore. I watch UK but even my interest in the non-big games has dwindled. And I never watch non-Kentucky games.

Boring zone and slow styles, terrible officiating, and 75% cupcakes in non-conference has wore on me.

Both can be enjoyed the same and supported the same. Hell the attention our football program is getting might take some pressure off the young bball cats as well. I love them both equally and pumped about both programs.

Why can’t we just be good at both and as fans celebrate both?

Why does one have to overshadow the other?
I agree. I think that support will grow for football and people will begin to show it the same unbridled love that they do basketball, but I don't think that means that anything has to be retracted from basketball fandom.

UK basketball is the best in the country, so NO... How about we let stoops win something before this kinda talk..I really like UK football and never miss a game, but are you serious with this question?

Valid point. And yes

When Cal signed, I thought UK would tie UCLA in titles BEFORE we ever won an SEC football title.

I still think so.
Not so sure about that...you're talking 3 more titles when we haven't been to a Final 4 in what, 4 years? Football was 1 win from playing in the SEC title game this year, which means they were 1 win from making the playoffs. I think we could very well be a legitimate threat to make that championship game as early as next year. If that happens, you'd have to say that football is closer to its first championship than basketball is to 3 more championships.

Kentucky football may never achieve the equivalent of what Donovan did at Florida. But despite that, we have (almost) always supported our football program far better than they have basketball, especially considering they won back-to-back championships.

I've always felt the best-kept secret in college sports is how very, very much UK fans love football, despite almost no real success since Bryant left. You can't say that about Florida vis-a-vis basketball, or any other football school that has tasted some success in hoops.

As good as we were last year, we’re still miles away from being as good as Georgia.

? I must have missed something. I thought he was being ironic in saying you had a clear thinking mind but we normally don't have that on the forums. oh well. Thanks for the personal attack.

Man, that was dainty. I apologize. I will be more kinder and gentler toward you in the future....

I didn't mean to be in attack mode.[eyeroll]

Oh, he wasn't talking to me in the first place. I was interjecting my ignorance in as levity. No levity toward you going forward for sure. Be Good

Our football team was very lucky to win. I don't know they are going to be that good. Until they knocked the starting quarterback for Toledo out, he was carving up the field with our defense. He isn't as good a quarterback as many we will face.

Basketball was way closer to 5 titles since 2010 than FB was to ONE SEC title; 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019

If it were not for that cheating rooferee we would have won it all in 2011. 2015, and 2017
