...near the 50 about halfway up with my mother, father, and a friend of mine from school. BTW, Big D-- Capacity was less than 62,500 because this was the year it was being expanded.
and I cant remember if it had been added in 1980- I dont think it was...I can guarantee you I was there in Section TT- as I was every year.<div>
</div><div>I'm from Jackson and my G-father got tickets thru his business to every game in Jackson each year by State and Mississippi. I started going to games in 1974 there with my father. I remember the doubleheaders that would be there also- State would play at 1:30, Mississippi at 7pm- those days were awesome. The only games I missed in Memorial Stadium from 1974-1989 were most of the Egg Bowls- that was the weekend my Dad would always go deer hunting- I used to hate missing those games and it made me hate deer hunting, that and being cold.</div>

as long as everyone else. It was not bowled in then. When the clock ticked 0:00, the UA players looked like they were ready to start another quarter, like the game hadn't ended with them behind. It actually took a few hours for the win to sink in, had to see it on TV sports later before it was really "real." Up until that year, I'd look at the schedule and count a loss to them automatically. Went to Tuscaloosa the next year and, for a minute, thought we'd done it again.
also ESPN was relatively new, and showed a replay of the game 5 or six times in the next few days.

away, I was in the company of a young lass that I had only met the previous weekend. After that homecoming, I felt like I knew, shall we say all her ins and outs or ups and downs. I hope that for this years Bama game there is somebody somewhere that will make the same choice I did in 1980 and he and the Dogs both come away with the same results.
A buddy and I took 10 tickets belonging to us ,friends and relatives. We tried for about 15 mins to sell some and couldn`t so we said 17 it and gavethem to some kids who were selling programs.
Took the SAT that morning across the street at Murrah High School. Was so excited about the game, I completely bombed the test.
I was stationed in Seattle and wassupposed to have been discharged from military service the week before but due to a foul up in my discharge papers I was held over one more week. My brother was a student at State and we had tickets and everything. To this day I'd like to find out who the m-f'er is who botched my discharge papers so I could punch them in their junk.A bunch of us went to a local bar to recover from the previous nights Halloween festivities.I can't remember what game we were watching that day but they kept flashing the score of the State-Bama game up. Kurt Gowdy and Keith Jackson were calling that gameand I remember Keith saying "Folks there's an upset a-brewing down in Jackson, Mississippi."When it flashed up and said 'Final' I went nuts. Folks in the bar couldn't understand why I went so apeshit over it. I rang the bell and bought a round for the house. THAT they understood. </p>

but I remember the game and the atmosphere afterwards vividly. Unfortunately, my first and oldest memories of a State game that are still somewhat clear is from the the previous game when USM gave us a beatdown. I do remember going to Bama the following year and watching the refs screw us out of the game. We still had a chance at the end though, we had first and goal from about the 8. We were down three and we ran three consecutive pass plays(pretty sure it was three and it looked like the same play, we def threw the ball to the McDole on the same side of the endzone each time), only to have the third pass intercepted. I believe that we were ranked 7th or 8th and they were ranked one spot ahead of us. I remember thinking that I wish that we would have been moreconservative with our play calling and just settled for the tie if we were not successful with a couple of option plays. Considering the stature of both programs, a win followed by a tie against the Tide would have been huge. We also lost to USM that year 7-6, we fumbled a punt inside our 15 that led to their only score. Bond was injured and we produced little to no offense that day, but we still would have won if not for the special teams fumble. Two tough losses in a row that year, I was only 8 but it still made me sick. We hadoutstanding teams in 80' and 81', it was a great time to be a bulldog.
