Good decision or bad decision, our fall break was done that way on purpose. I can see both sides of it, and most of you never see how much **** the administration takes from professors for closing down school/parking/research/etc.. for an athletic event. The athletic department has even gotten bills from professors before for "lost productivity" when we had a Thursday game when school is in session. Truthfully, I don't think it would have made much of a difference in attendance for the UK game even if we hadn't been in fall break.

If I remember correctly the academic calendar is set a long time before the football schedule is, which means scheduling a game on an off weekend would by the responsibility of Stricklin.

It was really sheer stupidity to play the KY game on Thursday. You ALWAYS make it hard on out of town fans to come to the game when you play on a workday/schoolday. And then you double that problem up by the fact that the bulk of the students are gone for Fall break. Surprised there were as many people there as there were. If the game had been played on Saturday night a lot of the students would still have been missing but at least alumni and fans from out of town could have more easily made the game.

I'm more aGAINST Fall Break during a home game week/weekend than an actual Thursday night game.

The SEC sets up our SEC schedule so Stricklin had no choice. My question is - is it difficult to move fall break to another weekend?

Did not realize that.

As for your question-- From what we are hearing it sounds like it would take an act of congress to move fall break. It sounds like the academic side and the athletic side to do not get along. Teachers sending statements of loss to the athletic office? That is absurd. It's another example of how we don't pull the rope in the same direction, or whatever cheesy metaphor you'd rather use.

1. Live and die by the three ball
2. Dan hasn't beaten a top 20 team
3. Fall break on off weekend

Congrats on moving up to third in the alltime dead horse beating contest.

There has to be a Stansbury/Coach34 mention in there.

Good point.

1. Little Ricky Stains schedules creampuff out of conference teams and wins the weak half of the fifth best conference to get to 20 wins but that doesn't make him a good coach.
2. Live and die by the three ball
3. Dan hasn't beaten a top 20 team
4. Fall break on off weekend
5. Bunting

In 2008-2010, fall break was Mon/Tues. In 2010, they moved it back a week so it was the M/T after we played at Houston instead of right after we played Alcorn at home. In 2011, there was no fall break, and they gave us the whole week off for Thanksgiving. In 2012, the UT game was supposed to be played on Thursday Oct 11, but they moved it back to Saturday. According to the revised calendar for fall 2012, classes were either going to be canceled all/part of the day for the game, and fall break was going to be lumped into the Thanksgiving week.

So yes, the school calendar can easily change for football. Most teachers canceled class if it started after 2pm or so for the Auburn game in 2010 because all the gameday parking rules went into effect at noon or 1pm. If you didn't like on campus, I believe the only place you could park was the Hump, and then ride the bus over.

I believe scheduling is Larry Templeton's job at the SEC office. He probably doesn't take fall break into account for any team except Alabama.

One noticeable effect of Alabama's power is that Saban whined about teams having a bye week before they played Alabama; now that doesn't happen. They're probably the first one he schedules based on Saban's criteria, then everybody else is based on their schedule.

I would venture to say 85% of DWS lives plus two and one half hours from campus.

I'm

convinced that c34 and Stansbury had a run-in sometime in the early 90's. The clowns disdain for Stansbury was unhealthy, to say the least.

I thought a school could decline to play a Thursday night game. If they can't, then it seems like there are a lot of schools that are due to play a Thursday night game before we play one again.
