The executive director of the South Dakota high school association said Wednesday that five Sioux Falls schools will have home-and-home series with Metro Conference schools in football for 2026 and 2027.
Nate Neuhaus of the NSAA, in the middle of statewide scheduling to be released Feb. 11, would not confirm the agreement.
"We've been able to find five Omaha games for five Sioux Falls metro area schools. (They) will all be playing an Omaha school for the next two cycles. It's something we've tried to get going for a number of years. We'll see how it goes here," said Dan Swartos, the SDHSAA's leader, at the group's monthly meeting in Pierre.
Omaha Public Schools district athletic director John Krogstrand, who formerly worked for the SDHSAA and will join the NSAA board next year, said South Dakota's largest class has nine teams, meaning in a nine-game regular season each needs to pick up one opponent for a full schedule.
Millard South and Omaha Westside are known to be asking for home-and-home series with teams from the Lee Summit, Missouri school district. Lee's Summit High won Missouri's Class 6 title last year.
