wish they would go away with districts and just let each team make their own schedule. The team my boy plays on has to travel almost 2 hours for most district games when there are over 16 teams within 60 minutes and 8 within 35 minutes LOL

That is why they won't ever do it. Who is lining up in C1 to play Wahoo? Same with Cedar or NC in C2.

Every school in GICC's district is further away from GICC than Doniphan (although Wood River is pretty close to the same distance).
This happens frequently. This isn't exclusive to C2 or GICC

This district cycle Gretna is closer to every school in the eastern district than they are to any school in the central district where they are placed. That's class B.
In C1 Cozad is closer to Kearney Catholic, Holdrege, Broken Bow, Minden, and Adams Central than they are to anyone in their own district (Chadron, Alliance, Sidney, Ogallala)
In C2 Arlington is separated from Logan View and North Bend Central. Both are closer than any school in Arlington's district. Palmyra is closer to Lincoln Christian and Malcolm (not in their district) than they are to any team in their district.

Making districts isn't as easy as it looks. You can't just group a few teams that are close by into a district. If we did that we would have districts of 3, 4, 6, 8 teams.

I'm a huge proponent of giving scheduling back to the schools. There is a reason teams don't want to play Millard South. They did that to themselves. They can find their own solution.

We have dynasties in other sports (Volleyball-PLV South, soccer-Skutt/Lexington are a few examples) and those schools seem to fill their schedules. If you are good and you treat people right teams will still play you.

Class A will not have districts this year. There will be 36 teams in A and they will be unofficially leveled into tiers. The goal is to keep tier 4 teams from having to play tier 1 teams. That's where we were seeing the forfeits. It was mandatory in-district games that weren't beneficial for either team.

Remember, the NSAA didn't take the schedules from the schools, the schools gave the schedules to the NSAA. That aside, the Class A change is a move back to schools taking more responsibility for their schedules (longer request lists) with an NSAA backstop to assure everyone a full schedule. We may see more movement that way in the next decade.

How will the B-4 district be treated in power points and the playoffs as the "emerging team" district?
The power points are meaningless. The Emerging District champion will automatically qualify and is locked in as the 16 seed, regardless of record or performance out of district. The top 15 seeds will be filled with the traditional power point method by schools in the East-Central-West districts, which means 15 of 18 schools are going to qualify. As long as you don't get last in your district you are probably in.

Blair is the front runner to win the emerging district. What happens if they draw Elkhorn, Gross, GINW, York, and Norris in their 5 non-district games and they go 3-2 or 4-1 in those games, then run the table in the district. They are 7-2 or 8-1 with wins over a few teams that will be in the playoffs....but they will be stuck as the 16 seed. Doesn't make a lot of sense.
