It's midweek time, you know what that means…a plethora of arms on both siders. The Tar Heels gave the Richmond Spiders a good licking on Tuesday night piling on eight runs early. UNC recorded their second run-rule of the season with a 10-0 victory over Richmond. A few of the offensive highlights:

Macon Winslow's second homer in his last three at bats (Saturday walk off homer, Tuesday double, Tuesday homer)
Jake Schaffner's first homer as a Tar Heel, a 377-foot dinger to right that scorched 104 off the bat. Also a beautiful piece of hitting by Schaffner with a pull side line drive in the bottom of the sixth.
The "hitting is contagious" flow of the second inning turning five hits into six runs, thanks mostly in part to the big flies by UNC's battery and shortstop.

The other big things of note were the multiple pitchers that took the mound for UNC. Kyle Percival made his first appearance in 347 days—his last time being during UNC's loss to Stanford in early March—and tossed four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out two. His strike percentage (55%) was below the benchmark that pitching coach Bryant Gaines would like but it was a strong first showing since his surgery.

Freshman Talan Holiday and Jackson Rose each tossed an inning of relief. Holiday showed the same poise he did on Saturday striking out two and walking one while relying heavily on his off-speed. Scott Forbes mentioned the double-whammy of pneumonia and the flu really put Holiday at the disadvantage but his cutter and slider were working well tonight.

Jackson Rose made his first appearance as a Tar Heel and tossed a scoreless innings showing his slider which one Jason DeCaro called one of his favorite individual pitches on the team. Cam Seagraves closed out the seven inning game.

The Tar Heels host Longwood tomorrow at 4 p.m. before heading to Greenville.

What I have looked at from afar is rain in the morning Friday and Saturday and Sunday it could rain until early afternoon. Not washing it out but times may change. But again all this weather and rain are subject to change.

It looks like we've got pitching depth that should be illegal. Percival impressed me in his first action in a year. He looked confident and smooth until understandably he got tired in the 4th. We should know a lot more about what we've got after this coming weekend.

Percival’s consistency until the last bit was even more impressive considering we had some long offensive innings he had to sit through.
