Numbers chat about Gonzaga-Baylor

What do the numbers say about the level of competition for Gonzaga and Baylor to get to the title game? It's a really mixed bag.

Baylor had tougher competition, Gonzaga won bigger.

Baylor had a tougher row to hoe, if you go by seed numbers: average of 7 to average of 9.2 for Gonzaga.

Which helped explain that Gonzaga won by the largest average margin, 21.8 to 15 points, with a heaping helping hand from the 43-point whipping of out-of-its-league Norfolk.

Gonzaga obviously got the biggest scare, in overtime against UCLA in the Final Four to win by 3 with a 30-footer at the horn, displacing West Virginia as the Zags’ toughest competition (Mountaineers lost by 5 in regulation; everyone else lost to Gonzaga by 10 to 45 points until UCLA almost gave the Zags a heart attack).

Among Power 5 opponents, Baylor beat a Big 10 team (Wisconsin) and an SEC team (Arkansas).

Gonzaga beat a Big 12 team and 2 Pac-12 teams. Slight edge to the Zags there.

It should be a classic battle. But it will have a LONG way to go to excel the Gonzaga-UCLA Final Four overtime drama settled by Suggs’ 3-pointer from Mars at the horn! ESPN article called it a 30-foot shot. The 3-point line is “only” 20.75 feet so Suggs was about 10 feet behind the 3-point line when he winged it and the prayer was answered.

HOW THEY GOT TO THE TITLE GAME

Baylor 79, 16 Hartford 55 won by 24

Baylor 76, 9 Wisconsin 63 won by 13

Baylor 62, 5 Villanova 51 won by 11

Baylor 81, 3 Arkansas 72 won by 9

Baylor 77, 2 Houston 59 won by 18

Average seed: 7 Average victory margin: 15 points

Gonzaga 98, 16 Norfolk 55 won by 43

Gonzaga 87, 8 Oklahoma 71 won by 16

Gonzaga 83, 5 Creighton 65 won by 18

Gonzaga 85, 6 Southern Cal 66 won by 29

Gonzaga 93, 11 UCLA 90 (OT) won by 3

Average seed: 9.2 Average victory margin: 21.8 points

Trojans gave them a good game. Thought UCLA was going to win because they had more points for most of the game
Baylor Horned Frogs should be able to beat the Gonzaga Cougars.
Expect to play two 20 minute halfs and to score a bunch of 2 and 3 point baskets.
The numbers tell me whoever has the most points in the end wins

CAN'T ARGUE WITH THAT STATEMENT.

BUT I WOULDN'T BET THE HOUSE ON EITHER TEAM! IT WILL HAVE TO BE A TERRIFIC GAME TO BEAT THE GONZAGA-UCLA SAGA THAT ENDED WITH A 30-FOOT SHOT AT THE BUZZER, HUH?

Here's a lesson in mascots for the misinformed CFE and RC. Pay attention, please. UCLA's mascot is a BRUIN, not a Trojan. A Trojan is SoCal's mascot, or something used for other purposes. Same city, but wrong. Baylor's mascot is a BEAR, not a Horned Frog. A Horned Frog is a TCU mascot. Same state, but wrong again. Furthermore, Gonzaga's mascot is a Bulldog, not a Cougar. A Cougar is Washington State's mascot. Same state, but wrong even a third time. I would think an esteemed sportswriter would know this from his extensive research of college basketball. The other guy, RC, I have no clue about, but one of his 30 some alter egos could surely have schooled him on the subject.

My apology. But check out the thread "What do the numbers say..." post #5, to be specific. That's you, right? Where you called UCLA the Trojans.

My hat's off to the Trojans, who easily surpassed West Virginia as the team this season that gave undefeated Gonzaga its toughest game.

YOU ARE RIGHT. I MISTYPED IN THAT THREAD'S POSTS. BUT NOT IN THE CURRENT THREAD. I MAKE MISTAKES. YOU MAKE MISTAKES. IT'S PART OF BEING HUMAN. BUT I MAKE ENOUGH MISTAKES ON MY OWN WITHOUT ATTRIBUTING SOME TO ME THAT I DIDN'T DO.

BUT I DIDN'T SAY IT IN THIS THREAD. DICKHEAD DID. HIS QUOTE IS IN MY REPLY. IT'S NOT MY TROJANS MISTAKE ON THAT ONE. I MAKE ENOUGH MISTAKES WITHOUT PEOPLE WHO HATE THAT I'M RIGHT SO OFTEN TRYING TO PIN THOSE I DID NOT MAKE ON ME.

Easy there Baba. Your 7.5 extra years may expire sweetheart if you continue being mean and name calling.

Not a name-caller although that is prevalent on sports forums like this. Just don't suffer fools gladly.

Yes you did name call. You’re such a fraud and dumbass you must not realize that things you post can be revisited. When you call someone a dickhead that is name calling. When you refer to UCLA as the Trojans a few times that makes you a dumbass. Finish your dinner Baba and go to bed.

Once again Alzheimer boy, scroll back to post # 1 of this thread under the name CuyahogaFallsEer, posted at 12:19 a.m. Can you not read? Or do you just post crap and expect nobody to call you on it? 5th paragraph, very last part in ( ) where you state "until the Trojans almost gave the Zags a heart attack."

Does it make you feel good to find a minor flaw? The main points that I made were valid. That's what count. YeahButHead is just a reflection on the nature of the responder. But, hell, you have to see that person in the mirror so that's you punishment.

Just like your delusional buddies, it's difficult for you to own up to your errors. Is that how you did it in your sportswriting career? I posted numerous times of your error in calling UCLA the Trojans, yet you ignored the obvious and continued with your deflecting rebuttals.
