So, you're telling me, you think Nutt would rather his last victory be against Mullen instead of number one LSU?
I know I would rather beat the guy who talked **** about me if I was going out with the record Nutt has right now.

2008 lame duck Croom = beatdown<div>2003 lame duck Jackie = beatdown</div><div>1998 lame duck Tubby = beatdown</div><div>
</div><div>When coaches are involved that are leaving, or at least known they are about to leave, teams get beat down.</div><div>
</div><div>In Orgeron's last year, nobody knew he was getting fired. He wasn't told until he lost the Egg Bowl. And his team was competitive. Joe Lee's team in '94 was competitive, but he was an interim. Cutcliffe's last year in 2004, he didn't know he was getting canned, and his team won.</div><div>
</div><div>So basically, your statement couldn't be any more wrong. At least not in modern history.</div>

Good lord, man, have you seen us play this year. After the beat down we’re going to take at the hands of LSU Saturday, Nutt’s going to have to toss CWAB out the locker room door to get the team to go out on the field. Whoever is left to QB for us at that point will be in great personal peril while our shitastic OL throws watch-out blocks all night. Y’all will be up by three TD’s at the half, and then it will get ugly in the 2nd half. If I thought any of our players actually gave a ****, I would lay odds on there being several fights and a couple of ejections, but if that happens, it will probably just end up being Bradley Sowell taking a shot (and missing) at Brunetti after Brunetti lights into his *** after giving up his sixth sack of the night.

think of Nutts as Custer. He basically has 25 men left at this point. He knows he is not going to win either way, but he is smart enough to know he has no chance to attack LSU and their 300 soldiers. They will be dead in minutes.<div>
</div><div>Nutts is going to attack State and their 75 men- especially since the State tribe has been spitting on them the last 2 years.</div><div>
</div><div>Nutts knows that no Mississippi coach has lost 3 in a row to State since the 1940's- you can damn well bet he doesnt want to be the one to end the streak</div>

They may try to put up afight at the beginning, but we're simply the much better team and when we get the lead, they'll fold.

Mullen is not going to overlook Ole Miss. This is a 365-day-a-year rivalry for him. We prepare everyday for this game. We have a better D. We have a better O. We have a better everything at this point. State rolls in this one. 2008 EB in reverse.

No Ole Miss coach had ever lost more than 8 straight league games. No Ole Miss coach had ever lost 10 games in a season.

Nutt has already blown past one of those marks and has his sights set on the other. Being the first Ole Miss coach since WWII to lose 3 straight to MSU is only a minor accomplishment in comparison.

And all three accomplishments blow the first back to back January bowls in 50 YEARS!! out of the water.

remember several occasions where the spoiler team has done pretty well. If we play our game and play well we will win the game, it is my hope we take care of our business.

I would much rather beat the guy who has talked **** than a team I know I have a small chance of beating. He has a much better shot of beating State thus I think he would rather beat State and will put his efforts towards that.

But that's just me. This season was over a long time ago. Just going through the motions now until it's over.

While I think Nutt MAY try to rally the troops for one last game, I think he's lost too many of them, and I don't know that he really has all that much motivation. He's just biding his time now.

in one breath you say how he doesn't care about MSU, but in the next you say it's his job as ole miss coach to continuously talk about his "recruiting titles" over MSU. Isn't it, then, also his job to care about beating MSU (being ole miss coach and all)

I don't think anyone is saying that Nutt gives a rip about MSU. However, you would be stupid to think that he does not want to beat Mullen personally in the worst way. Mullen basically has kicked sand in Nutt's face for the last two years and then told him about it. If Nutt has any gonads at all then he will want that game pretty bad.

running back in McFadden. I don't see anyone on this Ole Miss team that is anywhere close in talent to McFadden. But, State will find a way to make it close. We'll probably win the game, but all of us fans will end up having a coronary by the end of it.

When Ark beat #1 LSU, Nutts last year. He had 3 future NFL RBs that made big plays that game. Also, he had 3 others drafted off that team and two All American linemen. He will not have that much talent to work with at the Egg Bowl.

but it would be like comparing my motivation to do the dishes versus my motivation to fold the clothes. I might prefer one over the other, but I don't think his motivation is that strong for either one at this point.

I could be wrong on that, and he may have a desire to go out guns blazing. I can tell you for sure that we'll find out within the first couple possessions of the Egg Bowl. If you see balls to the wall, kitchen sink type play-calling, then they're trying to go out with a bang. If it's same ole/same ole, then they're just going through the motions.

Even if he does try to go out with a bang, I could see us coming out on fire, jumping out to a 14-0 lead or something like that, but eventually we'd have to settle back into playing his version of football this year which would shut our offense down, and Nix would eventually settle in and be Nix, and you'd come back and win.

That said, I still don't see him putting any extra emphasis on either game. I think it'll just be going through the motions time.

why not just step down when he was fired? Hell he basically asked to remain head coach until the end of the season.

It was clear from past comments that Mullen had gotten to him. He's hoping for some sort of redemption. And its all ego driven.

Every time I read a post predicting what an easy win TSUN will be this year, my confidence goes down a bit. What is supposed to happen and what actually happens are not always the same thing. I remember that we were supposed to beat Auburn this year, too, and instead we probably left 3 wins on the field there.

I expect to win, but I don't expect them to just roll over even if we hit a big pass on the first possession. I have watched us go into games we were supposed to win and instead slit our own wrists with maroon crayons.

I'm all for gloating mercilessly after the win, of course. But only after the game is won. Crap happens, and it happens to Mississippi State more than most.

...as it pains me to agree with 34, I've been telling anyone who would listen since day 1, that we're going to lose to Ole Miss this year. The consecutive wins, the billboards, the not so warranted smack talk (we aren't that far removed from 45-0), it all adds up to a lot of bad karma headed our way. We should've known better, we are MSU after all.<div>
</div><div>The alumni of Ole Miss might think that LSU is their real rival, but those players know that the Egg Bowl is their biggest game this year (especially those guys we recruited, didn't get, and then bad-mouthed).</div><div>
</div><div>If we play bring our A game, I think we can win but if we play a B game (or worse) we will lose. There's no doubt in my mind that we will get Ole Miss' best shot.</div><div>
</div><div>Here's an interesting question: Is Mullen resting Relf this week for Ole Miss? He's not practicing and we know what he does to Nix's defense. I don't think Relf is much help against Arkansas, especially banged up.</div><div>

None of the things you mentioned are going to have any impact on the game. Upsets do sometimes happen, but road upsets in the Egg Bowl almost never happen. You know Nutt has had this game targeted since last year's Egg Bowl, but he had that one targeted since the year before too and we saw what happened then. We will win this game.

I know for a fact that our administration discussed firing Nutt earlier in the season, but one of the big sticking points was who we would use as an interim coach in his place. Nix is really the only option, and he's not much of an option. I am pretty confident we asked Nutt to stick around and finish out the year, not the other way around.
