Winston was named starter for this week. So no Dart. The season is over. Kafka somehow winning a few games is meaningless.

The only reason to watch will be to see Dart, but you won’t be able to judge much anymore with the horrendous talent around him. It’s likely only Wandale and possibly Theo Johnson will be back next year. Anybody else on the field will be cut. That’s how bad it is.

Kafka is no front runner, but someone who could be in the mix, so why not test-drive him to see how the team responds. Maybe he is a guy that if you pair with the right GM, can succeed.

Mike Francesca did a podcast yesterday and addressed this (embedded below, at 4:04 and 22:00.) I got the sense that what he was saying was not speculation but was being fed to him, possibly by Mara. My takeaways were that:

1. Mara is sick enough not to be able to fully devote his full time to a GM/HC search right now.
2. Schoen will do the "legwork" on hiring a coach.
3. Schoen is not 100% returning next year but will be reevaluated at the end of the year.

1000% they should start Winston for a few. At least it will be entertaining. Wilson doesn’t want to be there anymore and is thinking about life after football, which I get if I had his career and his life.

With all the Dart concussion stuff, they should shut him down a few games. Err on the side of caution. Don’t let him talk you into playing the kid. Bring him back a bit later in the year when he’s 200% healthy, rested, and the schedule softens.
I think there's a chance Dart is done for the season.

I've heard a lot of Evan and Tiki this week as I've been in the car in the afternoon. Tiki believes Dart may have been concussed as many as four times this season. The first Eagles game with the blue tent fiasco, during the SF game and Sunday were three of them.

If that's close to true and even if it's only twice, you might have to sit him for his own good.

It wouldn’t be the worse thing. You have Winston ready and the receivers and ground game are poor so Dart would have to keep rushing.

Beyond that, Dart's legs are an important part of his game. He will have to learn to slide to protect himself rather than try to gain extra yards.
Everyone and their brother have been telling him that including John Gruden before the season started. Hoping this time off gets this issue much clearer in his head. If he wants to play a long time in the NFL he can rush but he has to get down a lot more when he can.

After the first 2 games they played, I named Dart and Skatebo the CTE brothers because of how many hits to the head they each took. Unfortunately my lousy nickname ended up being true. I remember Cowboy fans complaining at how Tony Dorsett would step out of bounds a lot instead of getting the extra yard or two. Skat could learn a lot from him as well as Dart.

My hot take prediction is that Kafka goes 4-3 and earns the permanent head coaching job, and ownership keeps Schoen for at least a year, touting Schoen's last two drafts and blaming Daboll's bad coaching and injuries to key players for the team's poor record.

It's not like Dart's running game was scrambling around on broken plays. A lot of his runs were designed plays & quite frankly, the most successful plays in Dabol's offense. Fools gold.

Could be interesting. That only works if they can attract a much better D coordinator. Bowen has been horrible and I wonder if a good D coordinator will want to come with Schoen having a tenuous hold on the GM position.

I like Kafka a lot. He had a great rep in KC and was considered one of the top up and comers in coaching. His tenure here has hurt his rep due to Schoen and Dabolls struggles. But it was Daboll and Kafka who loved Dart and pushed hard for him so I wonder if that has any bearing on the Giants decision and of course how well Kafka handles the team going forward. The Giants roster is still the same with many holes and injuries so that will work against Kafka no matter how good of a coach he is.

Or was it Kafka‘s offense?
Good point and hard to tell with Daboll so involved in the offense. Problem with calling RPOs which are difficult to defend is the ultimate decision of whether to hand off, pass or run is in the QBs hands. Dart has to learn to be a little more choosy on when he runs the ball and when to get his head down.

I'm not sure how much of Dart we will see. Have to think at minimum they keep him out for a few weeks to see if there is a difference with Kafka as HC. Or if Dart finally learned his lesson. Gotta think ownership will want to protect the kid too.

Franco Harris too. Hershel Walker at the end of his career. Kept them around a long time.
