A little levity and distraction from all of the bad news in the state that is still #1 in our hearts. Anybody play these balls? I loved Pentas, but I played these and I literally lost 20 yards off the tee and maybe ten off the long irons, and 5 five off the 8-PW. I thought maybe it was a bad day but I played the HEX-chromes Saturday and I was where I expected to be, then played the TP mid-round and was losing yardage again. Maybe it's my path, plane, and speed that does not translate to these balls but it was noticeable. On the plus side high velocity pitches and chips do stop on a dime, but the negatives far out way that positive.

It's hard to beat a pro v but

It all depends on what type greens you playing on. Some balls which don't spin as much are good on softer greens. Canebrakes greens right now are hard as concrete. You have to play something soft. I've played callaway chrome balls there and it doesn't work out well. At hattiesburg cc, you may not want a pro v because too much spin. I would play a different ball there. I played lost key last week and you could play a harder ball because very soft greens. Anyways, ive never played a TM ball. But any ball that losses distance should be thrown away because you can find balls which have same distance but spin rates will differ. Damn golf balls are expensive

Can't speak to any experience with the Taylormade TP's, but my rule of thumb in regards to golf balls is to consistently use the same brand/model ball. I pretty much only keep NXT-s or DT Solo's in my bag. I've hit ProV1s before and can't find a significant enough difference in my play to justify paying the extra.

See I am a solid golfer. In my prime I was a 3-7. Never a long hitter but I put it in play hit good irons and putted well enough to make my par with the occasional birdie. But I see people spend a ton on irons and drivers that give them a fraction of length but no control hitting a pinnacle and I just don't understand it. The golf ball tech has equated to the difference between forged and cavity backs. The consistency between hitting mildly thin, with tons of backspin, and a little chunky with tons of carry is not negligible. I'm a huge believer in the ball tech.

You

Should use the Pro v, and quietly laugh at the rest of us.

Shafts mean a lot, and if you have the game, the ball does also.

No more than I play NOW ( and I've played plenty) a Pennacle is ok.

You should not play a pinnacle unless you are more than a 23 handicap. You are hurting your game otherwise.

Yeah man. Karl you're great, but pinnacles are ridiculous. I play a 58 degree out of the sand and most shots under 100 and that ball just doesn't perform. It also doesn't give me any kind of feel with the flat stick. Not a flame just a preference.

I used to be able to get $5 dozen of Nike's in Memphis, at their distribution center since they were a customer of mine. $10 shoes, $20 golf bags, $2 gloves, it was awesome. They had a sale of employees twice a year, stuff left over from tournaments mostly, sometimes defects, like a stitch was off on a shoe. Good times. I now play whatever, and can't tell much difference, I currently have some bright yellow Callaways that were a goo deal on Amazon, and yes, I don't mind playing a neon ball. I do like Nike's, but I throw too many in the woods off the tee.

I've tried others, but nothing's as good as a Pro V-1. I usually wear them out before I lose them, so expense/hit isn't all that much.

Nothing wrong with a yellow ball. In fact, I just bought 6 dozen boxes of yellow DT-Solo's yesterday. I particularly like using them when I'm playing in a group of 4 or country club scrambles.

I will admit that I have yet to hit a 2014 ProV. Maybe they made a big leap this year, but gosh I can't spend $45 on a box of balls.

Where can you get the best price on DT solo's? I see Academy has them for $20 per dozen.... just wondering if there is a place I can buy in bulk for a better deal.

I'm a low handicapper and gave up Pro-V's for the Solo's .... less compression actually gives me more distance and I like the feel ... not to mention the price. I can afford to play any ball I want but the Solo's just fit my game better ...... McDawg - you are correct in your assessment of the Taylor Made ball ... cost me a lot of distance as well but they feel pretty good - I won't hit them (or buy them) unless it's a practice shot into my lake

Pretty much any store front retail shop is selling 2014 DT's at $20 a box. So that's fair market price.

However, I buy mine all in bulk recycled - and I only buy the 5A mint's. I just bought 72 DT's at 0.67 cents a ball. Picked those up off of eBay.

Me, being an old cheap bastard.......play these but of the AAAA condition variety. But I get a lot of balls for Christmas too and will play pretty much whatever is given.

The best cheap ball I've found is a Precept EV. Sports Authority used to sell them $14.99 for a 15pack.

I play Bridgestones and ProVs but I look for deals. I found some B330s for $30 at Academy last week. They were 2013s that were on clearance.

I'm also partial to a yeller ball playin in a big group.

I played the Pro V's but they only made a noticeable positive difference when the greens were really hard in August or Sept. I could score just as well, if not better, with a cheaper ball.

I am using the Precept Laddie right now. They are dirt cheap at $20 for 2 dozen at Walmart. I score just as well with them. One thing I won't do is change balls. I don't care if I win a dozen brand new Pro V's at a tourney, I won't play them. I give 'em to my buddies. I play the same ball everywhere so I know how it will react. For me, mixing and matching is the big no, no. You gotta know you balls!

I have played some Taylormade balls before but not the latest generation. I never got the distance out those either. I had someone give me about 300 of them and I would only use them for practice on the driving range.

If I had to play really fast greens, I might go exclusive to Pro V's but only after proving to myself that I really needed them Point one: I rarely use the flop and stop technique around greens. I mostly bump and run or play a check and release on less then full shots. Point two: I have never had a problem stopping full shots even on the hardest greens with the hardest of balls. With wedges, hard balls may help ke mepe from spinning them off greens.

Everyone's game is a little different so what works for one guy may not work for you. I never could seem to get the softer balls to the hole even after I played them awhile.

My handicap? 11.3 today but it's been below five when I played more.

My two cents

One last thing

Never ever ever ever buy the any refurbished golf ball. I bought some Pro V's that looked perfect. They sucked! Some were dead and there was no consistency at all. Stay away from those things!!! Seriously, don't buy refurbished!

Previously played may not be so bad. After my bad experience, I am sticking with new balls for now.
