This is probably the only game I will get to see in person this year,so I figured I would weigh in on what I saw.

1) Routt, in his current state, is a midweek starter. His fastball is pretty decent, but his change up in inconsistent and he can't use it effectively enough to keep hitters guessing.Auburndidn't look fooled by him today, and it showed. After seeing him his first year and thinking how dominant he could be down the road, it sucks to see himnot able to be an effective weekend starter.

2) Many want Mitchell to take his spot on Saturdays, but from what I saw today I'm not ready to say Mitchell is the guy. I know he's done fairly well this year, but today he was consistently way low and outside. Like I said I haven't been able to see him throw this year untiland I'm not sure if this is typical of him, but he was very inconsistent today. He wasn't around the plate much and he got into a ton of 3 ball counts. Right now I think our best weekend starting rotation would be Stratton, Bracewell when he's ready to go, andGraveman. As of now though, Mitchellis probably better than Routt, and he may be our best option until Bracewell is 100%.

3) Someone needs to work on cloning Adam Frazier. He is by far the most reliable hitter on the team, and his body language looks like he expects to get on base every at bat. Extremely patient, understands what the pitcher is trying to do, and never gets flustered. He went 2 for 2 today with 3 walks, so I believe that's 14 straight at bats he's reached base with 9 of those being walks. That's insane.

4) The team as a whole looks like they are looking for a walk almost every at bat. There were some very good first pitches we just stared at today, and I really hate that. The first pitch Renfroe saw in his last at bat was a beauty, and it was the best pitch he got the whole at bat. We need our middle of the lineup guys to be more aggressive, especially witha guy like Adam Frazier getting on base almost50% of the time.

5) I really like Tyler Fullerton. He had 2 of the hardest hit balls of the day, and I was impressed with how he handled himself at the plate today. Good job by him, and I really like the way he plays. I think he could end up being a really solid guy in the future, and considering he wasn't even on the travel roster a few weeks ago, I've been pleasantly surprised by his play.

6) I'm going to start calling Wes Rea Pedro Cerrano. He looks totally lost on offspeed pitches. It's probably the freshman in him and it will be something he will get better at with time, but he looked foolish on a few today, and he has looked that way before on some in the two televised games I saw against LSU and Arkansas.

Just a few of my observations today. I think we have a pretty decent team, but our mindset at the plate needs to change. We really look to manufacture runs through walks and hit batters with a few hits sprinkled in. We just aren't aggressive enough at the plate for my liking, especially early in the count. Auburn was very aggressive, came out swinging today, and it payed off for them.

1) I think Routt needs to be moved to midweek as well. His control is off. I think Routt gets more credit than he should sometimes because he was the best pitcher on an awful staff as a freshman. His ERA that year was 4.15 and he gave up 87 hits in 86.2 innings. Those numbers are not bad for a freshman, but not exactly lights out either. Now he doesn't have his changeup that he did during his best season. Now is a good time to make the move with Valley coming up midweek- we can beat them with Will Cox and then start Routt the next week against South Alabama.

2) Ben Bracewell can't go any further than Routt. Ben needs to be in the bullpen. I think we should make Kendall Graveman the Sat. starter provided he has another good outing tommorrow and then go with Mitchell on Sunday. Plus, with Ben coming off of an injury, I'd like to try to limit him somewhat rather than stretch him out.

3) Nothing to add. Agree.

4) That's mainly from inexperience. See Adam Frazier last year- he hit .260 something and was in a bad slump for much of the SEC season. I can't fault Renfroe for taking a strike down four in the ninth inning. You're supposed to take a strike in that situation. The Auburn pitcher knew that too- and that's probably why he threw it right down the middle of the plate so that he wouldn't get behind in the count.

5) Agree on Fullerton

6) Agree on Rea, and that again as you said should get better with experience.

Auburn came out more aggressive because Routt was behind in the count. That's why it's important to throw strikes as a pitcher. We were less aggressive because we were down and the best way to get back into it is to try to take a strike and force them to work. And it would have worked if our bullpen had held up. I would have tried Pollorena instead of Girodo.

us late in the season last year and I was thinking he'd be used as our set up guy.......He's played in the field about as much as he's pitched, which isn't much by the way......He's tough on lefties.......

Just an overall bad day for them. Isat very close to the bullpen and in the2nd inning Reed was up and threw a few pitches in the pen. Didn't quite understand that. But he quickly was sat down and Mitchell got up when Routt got in trouble again. I was a little surprised Mitchell didn't come out in the 2nd and I think he almost did, but Iwas pretty certain Routt wouldn't get out of the 3rd and Mitchell would come in.I saw Girodo get up and start throwing in the 5th andjust kind of gave up. He did ok in the 6th but the Auburn batters just plain smoked balls off of him in the 7th. Henever had a chance.

I like puttingFitts in when we did, but Auburn was all over his fastball. He was throwing it well but Auburn just jumped it, and Austin hit that 3 run shot over the giant wall in left.Suckedto see that happen to Fitts. Then Woodruffreally didn't do anything either.Haven't been that terribly impressed with him so far. Pollorena had his good stuff working thoughand I think he needs to be used a lot more nowthatwe don't need him for outfield depth. If we can go to someone with experience like Pollo in the late innings during SEC playthat will be reallyhelpful.

Before that, he was struggling in the bullpen with his control.

As far as the outfield thing- that factored in as well because if he pitches and leaves the game, then we can't use him in the outfield. Now that CT and Brownlee are back, that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him pitch tommorrow.

and as we all know, that happens sometimes in the SEC. I do agree that it's good that they get some SEC action because we will need them next year to step it up.

Woodruff has the biggest jump to make- he was pitching at Wheeler for goodness sakes last year. He's sort of like Hunter Renfroe.

I think Girodo is a one inning/one batter guy as well.

He said that right now Routt is not getting it done, because he cannot keep the ball low in the strike zone...and the Coaches will likely make a change next weekend.

He said that some of our batters are not taking the right approach at the plate, especially on the off speed stuff, so the coaches will likely make changes to the lineup, no matter who they have to sit down. It seems he emphasized some issues they see with both Renfroe and Rea....so we may see some other guys playing in their place soon.

An he said that when Frasier comes to the plate they tell every guy in the dugout to watch closely to every thing he is doing. I guess the players are popping their bubble gum about the time the pitch gets to the plate because I haven't seen a one of them mimicking Frasier at the plate.

But....since we know who we are as an offense, we should not expect to win games where we let someone get ahead 6-0. I imagine we don't have very many wins over decent opponents where we allowed them to score more than 5. Just a guess. Haven't looked it up.

If you give up six runs a game, you're not going win very many unless you have a really high powered offense.
