Obviously still early in the year

But at this point we lead the SEC in hitting and pitching. We are third in defense, but had we not had that four error game against Purdue, we would lead that category as well. We are also in the top five in home runs, triples, and doubles. And yes, we lead the SEC in ****ing. We are eighth in stolen bases- I'd like to see that come up a little bit.

I can't tell you how much I LOVE seeing this though.

It's still cold & Cohen is...

..still using line-up experiments against lesser opponents. When the weather gets warm & SEC play arrives, & the line-up experiments end, that's when I'll be eager to see the true mettle of this team.

I would like to trade a couple of ****s a game for attempted steals. We are experimenting with everything else.

While I agree with you about stolen bases but I just don't see us doing that. We've got maybe 3 guys that can steal.

Uh.. Hunter, CT, all 3 LF, Frazier, pick your 2B, Detz. There's 6 starters right there not counting PR when we need them. Anyone but Rea, Porter, Catcher, and probably Norris, I am comfortable with

Not sure about them all, but CT Bradford's stolen base numbers are not good. We're definitely better off with him not trying to steal bases.

14-22 for his career. 64% is low for what you want and he hits in front of Renfroe so usually not worth the risk. But if we need a steal I would be okay sending him.

Wow...Renfroe was 7-8 last year in SB....

As a team we were 45-72 last year. The top 30 in stolen bases in 2012 had close to 90. We are not a base stealing team.

Frazier had the most attempts last year at 15 and got 9. That's not a good %.

Btw- the top 5 last year in SB had over 120.

I really didn't want that to come off that way. He's just not been as successful stealing as you would think with his speed. He's an outstanding defensive outfielder and has hit for average at times in his career and so far is hitting for average this year. Also, I see that he's 3-3 this year stealing bases, so maybe this is the year he breaks out of his 1-1/2 year slump.

Following the Samford game on Saturday, I was a last second distraction away from posting about how improved our team defense seemed to be. While I agree that the Purdue game must have been an anomaly, I sure am glad that I ran out of beer before posting that.

In all seriousness, though, defense seems to be much improved this year. The outfield has made some outstanding plays, and the whole team is playing with a lot of confidence.

lets see

He was mostly hurt last year and was 3-4 stealing. he was 11-18 his FRESHMAN year and while that's not good, he may have had some technique issues going on, he was afterall a FRESHMAN.

One thing that will greatly help our SB percentage, I think, is Coach Wells (the new coach from Alabama) at first base. The guy has great pace and is a great addition at first (much better than Mingione... who is good at motivating, but does not have the recognition and pace Wells does.). It's amazing what I guy with good vocal pace and focus will do when you are attempting something as marginal as stealing second. A split second makes a HUGE difference.

While I agree that we are not really a stealing team, it kinda bothered me that when Armstrong got on the other night, with either none or one out, he didn't steal. Sure enough, we hit into a dp. I would think that if we were going to try and be aggressive on the base paths it'd be with him. I would go so far as to say with his speed, give him the green light until he gets thrown out. That is if he is going to be playing enough

I agree. Will James will probably agree with this next statement....I would much rather see us try and steal Frazier with 0 outs, than to sac **** him over with CT. We have got the speed to steal, so let's do that to get a RISP rather than giving away the out with a good hitter at the plate. Then that would give us a chance for 3 guys to knock him in, instead of just two. It wouldn't work every time because we would get thrown out some...but it would probably have a better success rate than some of our sac attempts over the years.

A good first base coach is an asset if you are going to manage the base paths. Anyone who has played baseball knows what I am talking about. Mingione just wasn't cut out for that job, he wasn't a great base coach. We have a new coach and new first base coach who is doing a stand up job in that role.

Detz looked awesome getting caught in between bases on a popup that the catcher dropped. Also how would a first base coach help our SB %? He's not yelling Go! That's on player instinct. We've been subpar on the base paths and downright stupid in a couple of instances.
