superbowl in February. Way too late considering one of their biggest problems is number of players (recruiting). Wouldn't mind seeing Franklin leave the SEC. Charlie Strong would be a good pic for them but not sure he's a west coast guy. Some of those are just ridiculous.

I heard a writer for the LA Times say the same yesterday, but I'm not sure how his show clause impacts all that.

Vandy should be concerned about Franklin

Very...

Good coach, and Franklin was not too happy pre season, with the season ticket sales.

9-4 last year...

USC seems to favor coaches with heavy connections to the West Coast and NFL....

pedigree types.

I bet it they hire Del Rio or Sarkisian, and the odds makers seem to agree.

Jim Mora Jr. is just across town...

I think it's Fisher, Franklin Sarkisian, or Sumlin..

I seriously doubt Sumlin would leave A&M to go to USC. It used to be a step up, but is it really a step up anymore? With all the money A&M has and the new stadium renovation, that would be a dumb move.

Kiffen was a kind of placeholder coach. Questionable hire at big program....

You never know.

facing tough sanctions. Come in and guide us through the wilderness and start stockpiling talent for our real hire that we can't make right now because the sanctions just started. Just like Shula at Bama and Dooley at UT.

If Chris Petersen was every going to seriously consider leaving, now would be the time. Not sure if he would be at the top of their list but this is one job that makes sense for him

I disagree. I think they actually thought he was a home run hire. Just like Tennessee did a year before. You saw he wasn't a good coach back then. I saw it. A lot of "regular" people saw it. But for some reason a lot of the "experts" thought he was one of the best coaches in the business.

Franklin is no better than Mullen at this point. His best victory in almost 2.5 years is over Mississippi 2012. While yes, Mullen did not beat Mississippi last year, Vandy has had their number in recent history long before Franklin came around. He has the exact same problem Mullen has: he can't beat the top tier teams in his division such as Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Just like Mullen can't beat LSU or Bama.

You've lost your mind. Kiffin was absolutely a place-holder coach. The one guy that would take that job while they were on probation AND right after Pete Carroll left.

But they also knew he'd recruit well and would be happy just being at USC. They used and abused that dude. I don't particularly think he's all that bad myself.

Was he a "place-holder coach" for Tennessee as well? You know, the major power that wasn't on probation when they hired him.

UT AD at the time was a complete idiot. Hell, they hired Dooley after him.

Got to give Kiffen credit for the Raiders, UT, and USC head-coaching jobs. Not a lot can say that had that run.

I have no clue why Tennessee hired Kiffin. But hiring him may have been the best decision that AD made out of firing Fulmer, hiring Kiffin and hiring Dooley. Like I said before, I don't think he's that bad of a coach.

USC hired Kiffin because he was the best they could get at the time (that pool wasn't very big). If he worked out, great, if he didn't, easily expendable. But the fact remains that they didn't hire him because he was their guy long-term. He was their guy while on probation. Anybody with sense knew that when it happened.

Unfortunately, if they'd give him another couple of years he'd probably end up OK.

I don't know why Jeff Fisher wouldn't have better odds. He has had a better record than Pete Carroll ever had and is a USC alum. The ESPN guys seem to think Herm Edwards will get alot of consideration as well.

The dude from Washington. Sarkisian. And I think franklin would be a good hire also. Dan Mullen to Connecticut. HUD to miss. State
