Rotten tomatoes is owned by the same parent company as the group that produced and distributed the odyssey. Bit of a conflict of interest and there are currently hundreds of people posting that rotten tomatoes is screening all reviews being made for the movie and are not allowing any negative feedback even for verified movie goers.

I haven't seen it to weigh in yet. The costume design is terrible as is much of the casting but that doesn't mean it will be a bad movie. Rotten tomatoes is a joke though.

The same traitors who stole the 2020 election are rigging reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. The depravity of the Deep State has no end.

Your wives are trying to tell you what kind of man they really want to be married to.
If she's looking for a Matt Damon...

...then I get Charlize Theron? Where do I sign...

Yeah - because there is a big push to give it bad reviews my the MAGA / Elon cult because it has a black woman as Helen of Troy and Zendaya as Athena, just like they do on other films that do not cast white Europeans in traditional roles. Like they did little mermaid.
You forgot to mention casting a 5’1 135lb FEMALE as the world’s most bad-a$$ warrior.

That’s the size of an average 12 year old boy …..most of whom would easily kick her a$$!! Epic wokeness. 😆

Uh, no. You fell for more MAGAt incel lies.

I trust you on this one, given how many you have chained up in your basement, Pedo Mauler.
I’m confused…..so she’s not really a short & scrawny biological female?!

And I’m not the one who supports the trans weirdos most likely to keep chained up kids.

Everyone knows that.

He/she/it is. That's not what you were wrong about, Pedo Mauler.

And I’m not the one who supports the trans weirdos most likely to keep chained up kids.

Your name is Pedo Mauler because you maul the little boys ... in your basement. I don't support trans, I'm just not an obsessive closeted freak about anything LGBTQ like your incredibly insecure used and abused arse is.

He/she/it was not cast as Achilles, like all your anti-American incel handlers led you to believe.

Hmmm. If only I could figure out why the board racists desperately want this movie to not have both been the box office and critical success it was…what is the reason. What could it be?

I think you nailed it.

Metacritic is open to anybody - could be people mad about the black actress. Rotten Tomatoes is actual ticket buyers.

Per Claude:

So the honest read: Metacritic and RT are measuring different things and both numbers are probably real — Metacritic's user base (open to anyone, no verification) skews toward the loudest backlash, while RT's verified-audience number reflects actual ticket buyers, who are responding much more positively. That's a real methodology gap, not necessarily fraud on either site. The "RT is faking it for the studio" claim is the weak link — that's an assertion riding on top of a genuine, more boring explanation (different sampling methods, different audiences).

Glad you agree it was weird they cast a scrawny little girl as the bad-a$$ warrior. Probably didn’t want to scare you cuck libtards by casting an even normal sized man.

And not surprised you haven’t heard of Iowa City’s legendary Ped Mall full of bars & restaurants. I’ve heard the rural inbreds down there don’t like to stray far from their trailer parks.

Pedo Mauler, you tried to rationalize your name before. No one cares. I haven't heard of a lot of meaningless things in your corn field of a state ... because I've never been there, and don't plan on ever being there. I live in civilization, where ACTUAL legendary eateries and pubs are a dime a dozen. Now let those little boys go.

When archaeologists study the bones of ancient Greek people (from the Bronze Age through the Classical period), they find that most men averaged about 5'3" to 5'6". Because their diets were mostly agrarian (farming-based), the men didn't grow quite as tall as people do today

Yep and even into the 1700s people were short as anyone who had been to some old buildings can attest to if you are tall like me at 6’4”. I would have been a giant to them.

I don’t understand the people complaining about things such as Lupita being Helen. Do these people think Greeks looked like Robert Pattinson and Matt Damon?!

I might have missed it, but I didn’t see Achilles in any of the Trojan war scenes.

I wish they would have made two movies, one for the Iliad and one for the Odyssey. But if they only were going to do one, the Odyssey is definitely the better one

Look at you defending probably the worst casting decision in movie history. Watching HER stumbling around in armor was f’en hilarious. 😆 😆 😆

It's been interesting watching the narratives swirl around this movie. Wasn't Elliot Page supposed to be play Achilles or something like that? According to the MAGAs that is. They were all foaming at the mouth over it, per the usual.

How is the movie doing at the box office? "Go woke go broke!"

Achilles is not in the movie. Assuming you're talking about the world's most bad-a$$ warrior (who successfully hid as a woman for years) being Achilles.

I saw it Saturday. I have mixed personal reviews. I think that each individual scene if viewed in isolation was a master piece. Clearly really well done. Clearly painstakingly planned and what was achieved was incredible. The trojan horse in particularly was crazy, as was the cyclops.

I did struggle a bit with the flow of the plot and tracking the entire story overall. Almost like it was just too big of a story to tell in one movie. Wish they had done it more like Dune with multiple parts. Could've pretty easily blended the Iliad with the Odyssey and made multiple movies with slower building character development, etc. Then would've felt more cohesive for me.

Honestly think I'll likely like it more the second time I watch it after having the fuller picture.

They were told by the Ministry of Truth Social that Page was playing Achilles so most of them probably still believe that.
Whether Achilles(which I never claimed) or some other mighty warrior…….having her scrawny a$$ play the part was a f’en joke.

Tell me you can’t watch the clip I posted above without laughing. Then watch the video below & you’ll laugh even harder! 😆

It was the third biggest movie this year.

Third-largest opening of the year following “Toy Story 5” ($159 million) and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” ($ 131 million)

Toy Story. When factoring in global marketing and distribution costs, the total investment is estimated to be $350 million

Mario: $200 Million

Odessey: $350

Mario Made 1.3 Billion (Done) Needed $400 Million to Break Even
Toy Story 5 958 million. (4 weeks) Needed $750 Million to Break Even
Odessey $264 million (1 Week) Needs $750 million to break even.

Pretty obvious Mario Brothers will be the biggest winner at the box office in net gain!

Toy Story 5 will make money for years.

An underestimate but largely correct, per Claude. More like 5'7 (vs today's 5'10.

Not quite — the comment gets the general gist right (ancient Greeks were shorter than today's population) but the specific numbers are too low, and the explanation is oversimplified.

What the skeletal evidence actually shows:

Physical anthropologist J. Lawrence Angel's classic studies of Greek skeletal remains found average heights of 170.5 cm (5'7.1") for Classical Greek males and 171.9 cm (5'7.7") for Hellenistic males, figures that have been corroborated by later studies of material from Corinth and the Athenian Kerameikos.

A more recent, larger-scale 2023 bioarchaeological study covering 9000 BC to 900 AD found that male stature over the last 10,000 years in Greece ranged from about 159.7 to 170.6 cm (roughly 5'3" to 5'7"), but importantly, heights weren't flat across that whole span — the study found a decrease from the Mesolithic to Neolithic, then a gradual increase from the Bronze Age through the Archaic/Classical period, followed by continued increase into the Roman era. So the low end of that range (5'3") reflects earlier/leaner periods like the Neolithic, not the Bronze Age–Classical stretch the comment is describing — by Classical times, men were closer to the top of that range, around 5'6"–5'7".

On the "agrarian diet" explanation: this is an oversimplification. Farming per se doesn't automatically stunt growth — plenty of well-fed agrarian societies produced tall populations. What actually drives stature in the bioarchaeological literature is more about diet quality and diversity (protein intake, variety), disease burden, and living conditions, not agriculture as such. In fact, some researchers (like Geoffrey Kron) have argued ancient Mediterranean populations ate a fairly good, varied diet and weren't dramatically disadvantaged compared to many later pre-industrial periods — heights actually dipped further during parts of the Middle Ages before climbing again. There's also regional variation worth noting: skeletal evidence suggests Macedonian remains show taller men than southern Peloponnesians, likely tied to a higher-protein diet with more cattle products, which is more about diet composition than "agrarian vs. not."

Bottom line: Ancient Greeks (Classical period especially) were shorter than modern Greeks (who average around 5'10" today), but the commonly cited Classical-era figure is closer to 5'6"–5'7", not 5'3"–5'6", and the "agrarian diet" explanation is more of a folk simplification than what bioarchaeologists actually point to.
