one thing with rettig in is that he takes forever to get to the line. that's something laviano does better

Lol at the fans that honestly can't notice a difference in the two. One gives us the chance for a deep threat, one struggles at anything longer than 3rd and 5 (just look at the third down conversions greater than that. We are nearly the worst in cfb)

We had two games (today and Penn State) where a switch early on in the 2nd half might have led to some points. Yes he played against backups but backups that would start in most teams and backups that desperately wanted to preserve the shutout.

If you think Laviano was suddenly going to score.. You're nuts

Umm...but their backups are still not as good. That's why they are backups. Against the first team he might not of completed a pass. That does make a difference. Wow, we only see what we want to.

Rettig has a MUCH faster release and cannon for an arm so he can throw it further, quicker before the DL can get to him. Laviano can't do that so he goes with the shorter passes. It's simple physics.

Laviano needs time to wind up to throw a pass like that. What you saw didn't matter if it was against first string or not. Without a decent passing game you are severely limited as we saw today.

You cannot beat good teams with 5-7 yard passes every time...

Laviano had some good passes today (maybe 4). however his long windup telegraphs the pass and gives the D extra time to get to the receiver. The slow velocity on many off his throws doesn't help either with completions since the D has even more time to react and adjust. Against a fast team like OSU, that is killer.
