Whenever people on this board tell me about how players get so much better between their freshman and sophomore years - I just want to respond: Wenyen Gabriel. SKJ. This isn't not universally true.

I don't know that you could be a worse defender than Wenyen or have as limited an offensive game. And SKJ still looks lost. All he brings is a 15 foot jumper.

Gabriel can guard and plays hard. P.J. does neither. He sucks the energy out of the team with his lack of effort.

Until Cal starts teaching these guys how to guard instead of just yelling for them to guard nothing will be fixed for this team. There is not one that knows how to break down or anticipate the first step or cheat to the ball side etc
