Grunk’s first 3 starts were against Iowa, OSU and Indiana in that order. They were all top 5 rated defenses. He improved in each game and Penn State would have beaten Indiana if the defense could have prevented the TD at the end of the game. He impressed Cignetti who said afterwards it looked like Penn State found their future QB. I am not against bringing in Becht but he has 1 year of eligibility and Grunk has 3. Anyone who doesn’t see Grunk’s potential simply isn’t paying attention. It would be a huge mistake IMO to lose Grunk.
Grunk put up good numbers today, which would have been way better without all the drops. Especially since he didnt have Singleton and Allen to lean on. Although Martin looked good today and got 100 yards. Campbell needs to retain him.

I think Allar was sabotaged by the coaching staff telling him to take care of the ball and not turn it over early in his career. I think they were in his head and he never broke free of that.

Take care of the ball and no turnovers = sabotage

It was just seven games, but seven important games ending with four consecutive wins. The team could have imploded, but Terry kept things together, and they improved under him. Terry will go down as a legend in Penn State lore. Plus, he’s all class.

I’m happy with what Terry has accomplished but he really would have been legendary if we would have been able to keep the core of the recruiting class intact. That was the most disappointing aspect of his tenure.

Like what I saw today. We still have a decent group of players for Campbell to start with next year. He has a big decision on whether to keep Grunk or go after Becht. Grunk is really coming on. So nice to see a QB throw it deep over the middle. Martin looks like the real deal at RB. TE had their moments today. We still need to improve at WR. Hopefully portal and new coaches will help. DBs are going to be good next year. Kudos to DDS for playing today. LB and DLine might need some help in the portal as well. Overall it was refreshing to see new players get their chance and many play well. It's now Campbell's ship to steer. Time to get behind the new staff and the players

Lots of QBs didn’t look good against Iowa, OSU, and Indiana this year. They were all top 5 defenses when PSU played them. Plus, they were his first three games in the starting QB role.
Oh, so the good teams on your schedule that you have to beat? Is Grunk beating Michigan and USC next year? Is he beating OSU and Oregon? That’s the next level. Is he the next level.

I’m just saying Grunk hasn’t beaten anyone of note. Yes, he has gotten better as the year wore on. And he was excellent today - against a 7-6 team with 24 opt outs.

I hope I’ve posted here enough that people wouldn’t label me a hater or a troll. I’m just being realistic about the facts of Grunk’s season.

Was I over emotional and critical during the Iowa/OSU/Indiana stretch? Yep, I’ll admit it. But I’m still not crowning him the guy yet. If Campbell likes Becht or another kid in the portal, I’ll trust him.

Has Becht beaten such teams?

It's one thing to bring in a QB that is proven at a high level, but from where I sit I'm not sure that Becht is some substantial improvement over Grunk and Grunk has 3 years to develop. And honestly would cost less in NIL money to retain so would allow for more resources to fill holes elsewhere.

He beat Indiana, until the defense said "not so fast ,my friends "

He also threw a crucial pick in that game…

I’m talking about the non CFP bowl games. Make them a reward, not freezing your a$$ off in a baseball stadium that leads to bad football.
Back in the day bowl games were a reward in someplace warm with a beach. Now if there’s a bigg enough check and players getting paid the school only reaps the reward.

You were being a little unreasonable and now you’re doubling down. That’s your prerogative.

Yes, I guess I am.

The goal is to win the BIG and the natty. The most important position in football is the QB. Based on this year’s sample, do you think Grunk does that? He played well against bad teams and bad against good teams - those really are the facts as of today.

He’s young and has some room for growth - that’s the biggest key. If you can pull a highly rated QB from the portal and pay Grunk to sit a year or so… that may be the best path.

Im not crowning Grunk the second coming based off a win against a mediocre Clemson with 24 opt outs.

USC has 10 opt outs so far. They'll be reorganizing as well.

If they prove themselves at VoTech and elsewhere, they can always portal back.
