They were keying on him, since we fell into the trap of relying on him too much toward the end. He was gassed as a result of overuse, as well ... you typically don't just need a quick TO to recoup from that. You need a few plays off.

Regardless, Singleton being in was the correct move. It just should have been short passes beyond the LoS (whether he stayed in to pass pro, or he ran a route), not a running play.
Are offenses allowed to throw the ball past the first down marker? PSU doesn't seem to have that in the playbook.
4-yard pass (check)
25-yard fade to a double-covered receiver that ends up 5 yards out of bounds (check)
Swing pass behind the runing back (check)
And, now that new-fangled shuffle (shovel?) pass (check)
One slant pass (maximum) per game, but can't be run in back-to-back games

I don't have any confidence in any player in this offense
We're 100% going to be bringing a portal QB in--that was a lock when Franklin was fired
Smolik wasn't good today etiher--I'm guessing you just like "dual threat" QBs.
They didn’t let Smolik throw, so who knows what he can do.

I think we need to seriously lower the expectations on the coaching hire. Kiffin and other high profile coaches that are being mentioned are not going to want anything to do with this roster. It is awful, and will take several years to rebuild.
If Kraft didn't have a commitment from a big name prior to firing Franklin, he is set up for failure. You don't make that move 30-minutes prior to a team meeting in mid-October unless the plan is place. Otherwise, it's fire and hope. Oh, and watch a whole lot of coaches get extensions.

Do you have any confidence in Grunk? I don’t and definitely want to tryout Smolikand more than likely being in a starting quality quarterback from the portal.
Considering Grunk had zero meaningful snaps before today I didn’t think he was horrible. His first start was on the road at Iowa with only a week of prep. He looked panicked at times but he was stepping into his throws and wasn’t afraid to let it fly. I wouldn’t say I’m confident but he deserves at least a few starts. Maybe even longer if they keep pulling him off the mf field every few plays for the backup.

Well let both Grunk & Smolick go in the portal and bring in two quality college football QB’s then
Of course, we were always going to hit the portal after this season--even more obvious once Franklin was gone
Grunk should have followed Beau last year

He’s not very good, but we’ve been in a position to win every game if the defense would step up and get a stop or two. That’s why you pay a DC $3 million…..Knowles has been absolutely awful.
Both have been absolutely awful. STs put up a TD today and our offense handed points to Iowa
I agree--we had leads against Oregon, Northwestern and Iowa only to lose--that's unacceptable
At least Knowles is in year one--growing pains are understandable
In year 2, what we've seen from AK is absurd.
Just glad both will be gone.

Sometimes you use a linebacker as a spotter. PSU has flipped this. Opposing offenses just spot where 0 is and........here "day" come

Biggest mystery to me was the use of Smolik -why? It accomplished nothing and just kept Grunk from getting into any rhythm.
I didn't have a problem with Smolik playing but I thought he'd eventually throw a pass from a run look. Having him go in simply to hand the ball off was kind of a head scratcher.

Agree. I don't get the Grunk gripes. I didn't expect him, as a redshirt freshman, to come into his first career start and look like a Heisman winner. A real game is faster than practice. He made a couple throws that Drew wouldn't have made, IMHO. Some dumb play calling didn't do him any favors. The bye week will be a good time to watch video and improve. Sure, we'll get our collective azz beat at OSU but it certainly won't be all Grunk's fault.

Is there anything more terrifying to the Penn State defense than a QB who can scramble and run?

That defensive weakness has been a key factor in each loss.

Some people just dislike pocket passers--he has to develop

No one asked him to be Heisman level just a division 1 level quarterback and not lose the game with INTs. Well after a 15-28 93 yards and 2 INTs ( one setup a layup TD before halftime) I think that failed miserably. Trust me we all knew it was his first start but it wasn’t like he was going up against, Ohio State, Indiana or Oregon. I just don’t think he got it.

The pick at the end of the first half was 100% on AK
Young QBs learn from mistakes--Iowa's defense is good. He didn't play Delaware
This is what our pass offense is under AK. The WRs don't fit our scheme and the play calling is horrible

How many scores did Grunk setup Iowa tonight? But not the issue? 93 yards passing and 2 INTS. And one of those INTs setup an easy TD by Iowa. The offense was so bad under Grunk. The only thing that worked was a TD because PSU got an INT to start the game and special teams touchdown. Allen was the whole offense. Grunk is not a good quarterback
He reminds me of Matt Sennaca

Those people need to watch the OSU QB - forget his name - he's just flat out deadly, God help us in two weeks
Please tell me you aren’t trying to compare Julian Sayin to either Allar or Grunkemeyer. They will never be similar and Sayin is already further than either of those two will ever get to in their careers.
