Glad we won, but I don't think WVU played all that great in this game. This performance was better than crapping the bed at TCU, but it seems like the same as the 3 games prior to the TCU game. My impression is that the win is more because the quality of the opponent as opposed to WVU playing better than it did in 20 and 24 point losses against Baylor and OU. Its a win, so I understand there is not a need to go all doomsday as your title suggests, but it really didn't do much to assuage the concerns raised by the 0-4 streak. ISU and KU are like the first three teams, so I'm not sure even convincing wins will really tell us much. Blowing out UT at home would be something. Winning at KSU would be a pretty good improvement given that I think WVU loses in Manhattan playing like the team did today.

I just want WVU to improve. If WVU were to perennially be a 7ish win school and always between 4th - 6th place in the conference, I would become almost apathetic. Its the hope that eventually WVU will put together a squad capable of vying for that top spot which is the most interesting reason to watch. Last year WVU went 7-6 with a loss to Alabama and a win vs Baylor. This year, Alabama was replaced by Georgia Southern and something like the Baylor win has not happened. Therefore, just in my opinion, I'd consider WVU improved if they win out or suffer only on loss in the final regular season games, but win against a decent bowl team. With what's left of the schedule, I don't think that's unreasonable.

WVU was far closer to 4-8 than 12-0 last year and remains so. Today's win was a good one, though. Thought the defense played miles better than I thought they ever could. DH hunkered down against every bone in his body and let his RBs and OL carry his team. That's about what they could do every week if they really committed ourselves to it. Run first, suck the safeties up, hit em with a big pass. That's not so bad. But you could tell it was eating at him by his unnecessary pass calls late in the game. I had to laugh, because for many years when Nehlen would run the ball in those situations, some of those same fans were crying for him to pass the ball just once to put the game away.

I'm very happy for the players. Very proud of Smallwood's never ceasing effort & exciting rushing. KJ Dillon was outstanding & really hustled. Shell played his best game as a Mountaineer, in my opinion. Happy for him as he's been criticized a lot. Worley may have saved the game with his interception in the red zone.

It was a good game. It was critical to win. There were dropped balls & turnovers by both teams. There were some questionable pass play calls that were questioned in the post game press conference and by the announcers during the game. It was very close & evenly matched, as Dana said. We ran the ball better than they did and so we won. That almost always is true.

One game doesn't shape my overall opinion on the coaching situation. Said same after losing to TCU by 30. There is a four-year sample size of BXII results to interpret and judge as you will. It's a good thing we all don't agree on everything & have differing views to share. No point in posting if we're all saying same thing.

Any game WVU wins in the Big XII is a good win. Every school wants to win in football and plays & recruits to do so (well outside of Kansas due to basketball being their thing).

Not since Donald EUGENE Nehlen in certain years has WVU played a real tough week in and week out schedule. In terms of opponents talent, the travel, and venues, these schedules are the toughest ever.

Enjoy the wins. You don't Build a good program in this conference overnight, especially at WVU. It doesn't take the patience of Job (that's pronounced Jobe. He was a guy in the Bible for all the atheists reading this), but for depth & skill it will take time.

For those who think beating Texas Tech is no big thing, they've played a pretty tough SOS like WVU. Right now they're #15 and WVU still is #2 in terms of SOS. That's why the records are less than stellar.
