Hey guys. I know I don't post here very much but I
Wanted to give an update on the oil on the gulf coast. I apologize if this
Is Germans. I've been staying down at the beau rivage for a
Conference and decided to take a stroll along the beach. Just yesterday it didn't seem like there was any oil. Or that's what I was told. The beach near the casino is absolutely covered with oil. It's so bad you can't take a step without it getting all over you. I try to be as strong as the rest around this board, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't bring tears to my eyes. It's such a sad thing. Just thinking about all the sea life that will be killed. If any are near the coast, you should come see it for yourself. It's truely history in the making. Cleanup crews are everywhere, but it's hard to imagine them being able to clean this all up. I'll try and post some pictures when I get home tomorrow. I talked to some folks who were walking along the beach as well, and they said a full recovery might not even be possible. Again, hope this isn't Germans. I'm typing this on my iPhone so I hope it works.

No. Not an idiot. Like I said, I talked to a bunch of people that said there wasn't even any oil
On the beaches yesterday. I don't know if that's true or not. Just went out there today. To me it's a lot of oil, but that's just my
Opinion. It may have just been bad where I was because there weren't any cleanup crews there at that point. But yeah. To me its pretty bad. If I had a 17in laptop I could post a bunch of pics.

and the areas affected by it. Trust me, I know.

I know you won't listen. There's not NEAR the oil out there it's been made out to be. The pictures (if they are even real, which I'm starting to doubt) are being taken in the worst of the worst areas. I'm just not seeing it. Sorry to rain on your hatin' parade.

blasting out of the well every day for the last 70 days?

I am no expert, but I think it is pretty damn bad. Fake pictures huh? That is rich.

That's kind of the whole point of showing the oil. The thing is, where the worst area is will vary from day to day, so it's going to make it real tough to plan a beach vacation down there (unless you're willing to drive 30 miles to a clean beach if yours has oil on it while you're there).

Look. I wouldn't make this **** up. I'm just calling it like I saw it.
Maybe its not as bad as It was supposed to be. I don't know. Certainly hope you're right in saying it ain't. But any oil is enough isn't it? And what I saw in my opinion is a lot. I'm sure most on here are outdoor enthusiasts like me and just don't want anything happening to all the gulf life. If I wasn't worried about the sea life and all the jobs that will be lost over it, I wouldn't have posted to start with.

Go down to the coast and tell this to thelocals that rely on the ocean as a source of their income. Whether it's some sort of fishing, a restaurant, tourism, etc. I'm sure they'll enjoy your opinion.

BP and Pres have had all this time to prepare in case this happened. No booms or skimmers. I guess Ray Mabus will save us again.

there is oil here on our beach! There have been hundreds of workers shovelingtar balls into bags for the past 3days from Beau Rivage west toVeterans Avenue... It is bad.The entire Mississippi Sound has been closed to all fishermen, and if you do not know this isusually the peak ofshrimp season. All of thecharter boats are now working for BP, there is NO offshore fishing. Our way of life has been changed, and it looks like it will remain that wayforthe foreseeable future. Nowtropical storm Alex is causing us to have high southeast winds, which ispushing the oil even further on shore because of the higher tides. Theexcessive wave action from this storm is alsopushing oilover many of the booms protecting areas likeBack Bay and FortBayou.Dolphins have been seenup in rivers off of Back Bay...Whales have been seen off of the barrier islands, these mammals are trying to escape the oil.

Anyone who does not believe this is theWORST man made disaster to ever hit the United States should just take a tripdown to theCoast, just pick a city... Destin, Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Pascagoula,Biloxi, Grand Isle... take your pick, IT IS EVERYWHERE!

I will also try to take some pics tomorrow and post them...

the ecological, environmental, and economical (in my best Jesse Jackson voice) disaster and changes that are going to result from this. Food chains wiped out. Entire species relocated. Industries shut down. They've basically created a desert. I mean, have they gone and made a wide open carpool lane of dead, warm water for hurricanes as well? Seriously, and even if not Talladega for cyclones, what is a dead ocean going to do to weather and climate?

Like I said, I'll try and get those pics of this afternoon. I left the coast this morning,
But decided to walk around some before I left. It seems the clean up crews are
Doing as good a job as they can to keep the beaches clean. But it will certainly be a full time
Job. All this brings up a question from me. How does this compare to Katrina? I know it might be apples and oranges, but in the long term it seems as if this could be
Much worse. As horrible as katrina was , buildings can be rebuilt. And although there is still a lot of recovery to do, the difference in the coast compared to when the hurricane hit is amazing. It just seems like there may be some things with this oil
Spill that may never recover. To me
It seems like the recovery will take
Much longer. What say you?

Media has reported that BP will be putting every penny of cash from the collected oil into a conservation fund for the coast and you've repeatedly stated that you don't believe a word of it...

But when devastating pictures are produced, you believe every word associated with it, regardless if it's actually true or not.

I haven't even looked at the pictures in this thread, but I'm pretty appalled at your hypocrisy.
I mean really?

You are appalled at somebody not believing what BP says at this point, AND for them believing pictures they have seen on nearly every damn news site are real? I mean really? Exactly how far up your *** did your head get stuck?

OP4 believes pictures he sees in the media are to be 100% true and representative of coastal conditions.

OP4 doesn't believe media reports on BP's plan for a coastal conservation fund.

The common denominator is the media... and he's believing it only when he wants to (and it lines up with personal beliefs). That's hypocrisy.

Doesn't take Einstein to see this.

He doesn't believe what BP says to the media. What's he supposed to do? Call up BP and ask them personally? Yeah, then they'd really give it to him straight.

In fact, it's not hypocritical at all. He trusts the media is giving him accurate statements on what BP says and accurate pictures taken by journalists, residents, etc. He's choosing to assume BP is lying (yet again) to the media, not that the media is lying to him. I'm the same way, and so are a lot more people.

Listen, I'm sorry you work in a field that relies on the oil industry. I work in an area of banking that had nothing to do with the financial crisis, but I'm feeling it in terms of loss of bonuses and retirement. That doesn't mean I'm going to stand up for those at fault. Our system was FUBAR. It failed. It's just like the negligent murder and environmental catastrophe BP caused. The system was FUBAR and it failed. Picking stupid ***, nit picky, dumb as hell, and ignorant arguments on the internet isn't going to make you look any better. I say I work in banking, I know what people immediately think. You work in the oil industry, you know what people are going to think. Deal with it. One of the major players was negligent and has been dishonest and closed since they took a bit oily **** in the Gulf. I refuse to believe anything they say until I see it being done.

and assuming you can actually tell the difference in not trusting BP versus picking which media stories to trust. If not, enjoy the O'Reilly factor this afternoon.
