I think you're finally using an appropriate word: lame ;)

But I really didn't come here to bad mouth your program, but just kinda suggest cool it a little on disparaging virtually any program's Tournament success history when yours was literally non-existent until last week.

I would like to say good luck, but ya know ;)
What B1G champs have you won lately…?
We at least have Baseball and Volleyball, you guys have won no championships, nothing…Losers…go back to your **** board!!

Baseball? That's kinda cool, I guess.

But volleyball ... puhleese. Any rational person would take the Iowa Women's Basketball 3 B1G tournament titles and 2 National Championship appearances over any success you've had in volleyball, whatever that may be. Iowa and Caitlin Clark literally made the game cool. Too many firsts and milestones created to list. But yeah, go volleyball.

With that said, I really don't know nor particulary care to debate which school has had more overall athletic success, as if that could be easily defined anyway.

Was just kinda pointing out people whose basketball houses are made of glass shouldn't be throwing stones.

I really hate to get involved in this pissing match. And honestly, I’m not the greatest fan of women sports because some of it is tough to watch. But you said some assinine things here. Any rational person would take your basketball “appearances.” And any volleyball success, “whatever that may be.”? Herkie, Nebraska volleyball has way more success than your women’s basketball team has. Don’t insult us by saying “whatever that may be.” Nebraska has more than just appearances in the national tournament. They have multiple championships. Dumbass. And let’s be honest. Women’s basketball sucks. I love basketball, but I really can’t watch the women’s game. And also, volleyball players are way hotter to watch and look at. Gotta be honest. I was shocked when I found out Kaitland Clark had a boyfriend.

Nah, an Iowa fan living in Oklahoma.

You guys sure filled up OKC last week. Perhaps temporary SoonerBeAHuskers? Regardless, you took the damn place over! I ofc am hoping you don't do the same in Houston. Logistically that might not be as feasible but I'm sure you'll have a good showing. But again, I'm in no way encouraging it! ;)

Okay, okay you seem a little more rational with a few good points but your tone is still not the best.

So I just Googled how many Natties your volleyball team has. Apparently it's 5 and that's good. But it's kind of the "If a tree falls in the forest ... " dilemma. If no one, or very few, are listening/watching does it really matter a great deal? You want to put up viewership numbers of two national championship games of b-ball vs v-ball?

You said you're not into women's sports in general AND women's basketball particularly sucks. But yet women's volleyball somehow is compelling? Is that maybe because there is no comparable men's variety or perhaps just a little school bias creeping in? Sorry, women's volleyball is a very niche sport vs women's basketball. There is absolutely no comparison between the stratosphereic ride Caitlin, Iowa, and their opponents went on vs ANY volleyball program.

Sorry to have sucked you into this aptly termed "pissing match" but I inevitably got sucked into it just like you. I hate coming off so one-sidedly rah, rah, rah but that's what happens I guess.

Finally, your hotness observation is spot on! The hotness disparity would be worthy of its own conversation. Quite stunning and interesting as to why the difference.

Again, any other time I might wish you luck Thursday ...

How many Herky women’s basketball national titles have they won?
Cool that Katlin the screech Clark made the final 4 twice. WHOOPIE.

No question they tie all their success is their women basketball team who have better attendance then their Men’s team . Let that sink in.

And now I'm posting at 7:30 am, I don't need much sleep. Admittedly though the 2:20 post was about an hour late for me.

No obsession, just got dragged into this pissing match. Wanted to have some friendly back-and-forth but that never seems to work out.

What's your expectation for attendance in Houston?

I would expect to see more Husker fans than Houston fans in the arena

Well ... well ... in 1958 Iowa's James Van Allen famously discovered ...

We have to stop this! I came over to this board to get some thoughts on your team and the game. I did start by trying to defend Iowa's tournament success and I think MAYBE I accomplished that as there has been no other discussion specifically on that since.

Now, basketball: this game is compelling for so many reasons and one of them, ofc, is the Sandfort treachery. Kidding, "stealing" players is the lay of the land now. Heck, Iowa "stole" Stirtz, his teammates, and coach! Crazy times, but it's still gonna hurt every time Pryce busts a 3-ball. He can be crafty around the rim too, dang it!

The player who will probably frustrate me the most, however, is that "little" Hoiberg. What an amazing rebound-put-back he had. His hustle and scrapiness is off the charts. Very annoying ;) It would be easy to not like the guy as an opposing fan, but I saw the piece where he was talking about his family's involvement with the Sandforts and he exuded such a warmth that I know in person he must be very likeable. I think he's become a fan-favorite after some derision for the coach's son thingy, correct?

Now, before I put all this warmth and fuzziness aside and steel myself for the upcoming "war," I will wish you good luck as far as I hope it will be a clean game and no injuries on either side.

(muttering) but that quisling Sandfort ...

Edit: to correct my reference to this as a basketball board. OOPS.

Really? Shoot, that is discouraging.

My understanding is one ticket gets you both sessions, IA/NE and Houston/IL so I would have thought the largest contingent would be from Houston. Otoh, Houston is amidst a big pro market. I dunno.

At least it won't be as bad as playing Florida in Florida, I guess.

Safe travels ...

LOL thinking its not going to be a Nebraska home game. It absolutely is. These numbers don't factor in that a ton of tickets sold to Texas buyers will be Nebraska fans.
We're used to it. Iowa fans just can't comprehend our fandom. They wave at the hospital. We cheer on our school. No matter the sport. No matter the venue.

okie dokie

if you say so
Hey!

I'm the Okie! So I'm guessing the Tampa arena was 90 - 95 % full of Gator fans. Did you see that massive roided-out Gator dude in the tank top jersey? He probably counted for two Gator fans alone, amirite?

You'll have a strong showing I'm sure, but still just a little north of a third of the seats is my guess. Only a guess. And maybe the other fans might root for Iowa, a lower-seeded team who they would potentially get to play?

I'm announcing it here and now: Any fan with a good pair of lungs is welcome to join our Iowa coalition!

You seem reasonable so I won't lump you in with the normal Iowa dorks who come over. (I still think it's funny you guys visit so often. But this is a big week so there's some grace).

Anyway - I am a Husker football die-hard for 56 years. Not a huge fan of women sports. In the last 5 years I've decided to wade into the waters of women's basketball and women's volleyball. Although I am Big Red, I consider myself a bit neutral in this discussion because I never grew up rooting for NU VB, BB, etc. Just football.

I don't mean to preach to you - but I will be direct. You are a bit ignorant in this area. Not a shot at you - I was ignorant about VB vs. WBB 5 years ago. I started watching Clark and Iowa because she is legit. Fun to watch. First time I remember seeing a woman legit play like a dude. Meanwhile, I started watching Nebraska VB and they are legit and fun to watch. Here's the thing: Remove Clark and women's basketball is absolutely unwatchable for me. Iowa Women's BB, WNBA, NCAA Tournament - all of it. They are slow, flat footed, can't jump, and a good Jr. High boys team can beat most of them. TRUTH. Nearly all good HS teams we read about would crush them.

Not the case with Volleyball. First off, you said there is no comparable men's sport. Wrong. I grew up watching volleyball in the Olympics - men and women. Women's is simply more fun to watch. Not even close IMO! Men are too strong and one good spike and it's over. Women's ice skating is more enjoyable than men's - but we know that's for a different reason :). Same with volleyball, women's is more enjoyable to watch - and not for that reason.

There is ZERO chance a boy's Jr. High Volleyball team could beat Nebraska. And if you can find me 6-10 boys in High School who would beat Nebraska I would be shocked. Not going to happen (Yes, some of that is because boys don't practice like in hoops). You should take a look. We are talking 6'4 - 6'6'' and a few of them look like Jordan coming in from the back row with their hops. I mean they are FLYING. And the spike - Monsters. Beasts (with beauty). They look nothing like these lame women hoopsters who jump about 3.5 inches for a layup.

Women's volleyball may not be as popular (yet), but it is a no contest on which is more enjoyable for me to watch. Not even close (unless Clark is playing) And I don't say that because of allegiance - like I said, I've never had allegiance to NU volleyball before these past few years. And the best news? When NU's best volleyball players graduate like Clark from Iowa, it is STILL awesome to watch. The athleticism is off the charts. Women's bball is a bunch of angry, un-athletic and flat-footed gals with limited talent. JMO.

I invite you to watch a Nebraska - Penn State game or Nebraska - Texas VB match next year. If you are open-minded, there is ZERO comparison athletically and entertainment wise. A lot of guys aren't fans because their school stinks at volleyball they don't have a team, or just haven't been exposed to it. It's like you trying to convince a guy in N.Carolina to enjoy WBB and he's never seen Clark play.

Wow, thanks for the thoughtful response, and yes I moseyed over here because it is a big week.

I watched just a tiny bit of Olympic volleyball growing up. I actually remember Karch Kiraly, but that may be as much for his unique name as anything else.

Of course I have caught some women's volleyball over the years too. I think, just my opinion, v-ball might not be as popular as b-ball because it's a little more one dimensional perhaps? Just the back and forth over the net kinda thing. Yes, there is passing involved but I don't see how it could rise to the level of skill and excitement that a player like, say, Chelsea Grey of the WNBA exhibits. I could be wrong though.

Now let me say I am definitely impressed by the stature and athleticism of the women v-ball players. These elegante women flying through the air is pretty cool, like is this a Cirque du Soleil performance? NOT trying to be funny here, btw. And yeah, they are frankly much more feminine in appearance, and probably personality, which definitely has its place. I am genuinely curious as to the reason for these differences between the two sports.

Finally, let me just conjecture a little that maybe the difference in fan interest might be something akin to the buzz surrounding the Olympic hockey teams. Super exciting! I studied the winning goals for both US teams over and over. The women's goal might have been the more impressive, Meagan Keller totally undressed (figuratively) the Canadian player. Neat. But now an NHL advertisement will appear and I'm like nope. In general, the game, outside of extraordinary circumstances, just doesn't appeal to me that much. Guess the same would apply for volleyball.

Oh, let me also say that some of my earlier remarks likely sounded VERY condescending towards women's volleyball. Sorry about that!

Again, wishing for a clean, injury-free game for both teams Thursday. I'm out!

I won't root for Iowa. But I will be interested. I do think that we can play Florida tough regardless of how close Iowa plays them. We're better than Iowa. If we're hitting, we can play with anybody. If Iowa pulls an upset, they will be tough to beat. They just match up well with us, play deliberate and really rough, dirty. Apparently, UCLA and Vandy copied Iowa's strategy. Lots of grabbing, cheap shots.
How do ya like it?

Please explain to me what I’m worried about shitbird? I worry about a lot of things but the outcome of this sporting event isn’t one of them. Again Im assuming your team has its own board to discuss Iowa athletics? Not that there’s really much to discuss but all the same you should do it over there with people that smoke meth watch kiddie porn and work in a convenience store as you will have that in common with each other.
So, in hindsight you should have worried about the outcome of the Iowa game. 😳

In modern football history (let’s say back to 1980) Iowa is a top 25 to 30 football program, so my point still stands.
The modern day of college football started with 2 platoon football and it didn’t start when Hayden Fry became head coach for the Clarkeyes, it started in 1964 when 2 platoon football was allowed.

Do you even know what 2 platoon football is?

Your fan base especially you doesn’t know $&it about the history of college football.
