It's crazy how many pro teams in all sports have to resort to 80's music as their walk out/run out music. When is music going to catch up? Damn it this bourbon is good!
Lazy take. Plenty of run-out / walk-out rock songs since 2000.

Song 2 - Blur
Jungle - X Ambassadors
I Stand Alone - Godsmack
Uprising - Muse
Down with the Sickness - Disturbed
Bodies - Drowning Pool
Headstrong - Trapt
Shipping up to Boston - Dropkick Murphys
Chop Suey! - System of a Down
Last Resort - Papa Roach
Seven Nation Army - White Stripes
Misery Business - Paramore
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
The Diary of Jane - Breaking Benjamin
Joker and the Thief - Wolfmother
Reptilia - The Strokes
Fake It - Seether
Tick Tick Boom - The Hives
One Step Closer - Linkin Park
Faint - Linkin Park
Burn It Down - Linkin Park
Light em Up - Fall Out Boy
Broken Boy - Cage the Elephant

Those are all easily options to run out to that came out after the turn of the century - just kids these days prefer rap / hip hop. So why cater to that style when rap can do it way better:

Bring em out - TI
Black Skinhead - Kanye
Just Wanna Rock - Lil Uzi Vert
A Milli - Lil Wayne

Those songs just speak to hyping the guys playing the sport way more.

I still owe them a few CDs. Think I took the introductory offer 3 or 4 times.
Did CH not have full album cover art rights or did they just do the white spine with pink stripes to save on ink? Thing I’ve always wondered…

Sammy >David Lee by the way
Saw Sammy a month ago and that 77 yr old 17er can still rock! Not that you skinny Jean **** bags know
Still had to hear the Van Hagar backlash though. Saw an interview with Hagar recently where he talked about how a crappy manager really drove a wedge between him and Eddie.

Foo Fighters is a flash in the pan?
Green day is a flash in the pan?

You need to look up what that term means.
If you don't like em personally, cool thats fine, but flashes in the pan is an absurd comment to apply to them.

It's absurd to apply to The Killers and Linkin Park too, to be clear. A cursory look at the timeline of hits, number of hits, and discography span shows 'flash in the pan' isn't an applicable claim.
Well…Dookie!

I miss the 70's and the 80's and early 90's music.......I remember a buddy saying that the grunge movement destroyed women's clothing in college with all the flannel.
-grohl has really been cool for the past many years......
-I hate green day fella gets so political.....shut your mouth and play music
--there is alot of great music out there, to each his own

*favorite Ozzy quote "......I love Taylor Swift!....(Ozzy leans over and asks): who the 17 is Taylor Swift?"

And it’s not even close. Although Dave was pretty good in his 1st stint with Van Halen. And there’s no comparison I the last 40 years. But even in Dave’s prime Sammy was still better.
I'll concede that Sammy is a much better singer, but will never concede that Van Halen was better with Sammy. Much cooler band with Dave. With Sammy, they became another mid 80s pop band.

You're only allowed to disagree if your disagreeing agrees with my disagreeing which is, therefore, not disagreeing, but agreeing with my disagreeing. Case in point, the "shut up and sing" sentiment never seems to apply to Ted Nugent, Hank Williams Jr., Kid Rock, etc. because their disagreeing agrees with my disagreeing. **

This is the answer.

Van Halen rocked harder and had balls with Dave. It was more neutered with Sammy. No question they were vocally better with Sammy. But they were a better rock and roll band with Dave. And it's not close.

I had this discussion with a younger colleague this week. My high school experience was totally different than my parents. The clothes we wore, the music we listened to, the cars we drove, we had TV and Jet engines to make the world a much smaller place. Not even imaginable to what my grandparents went through.

If I drive past a High School today those kids are wearing the same clothes we wore, they are basically listening to the same music, same general entertainment options. Yes they have cellphones and the world is even smaller. It is evolutionary from my time and not revolutionary like my time was to earlier generations.

So music today is not really any different than the originals. So the originals just hold up better.

They were definitely different. But they were already headed in that direction anyway (Jump). And it would have been worse if Roth had stayed in the band. Just look at what he put out in his solo career. You really want that clown fronting Van Halen?

I think Dave's first solo album was pretty good.

But he was definitely leaning more into the MTV, video driven influences at that point.

No doubt, and Dave always had that annoying little jazzy vaudeville showman thing he did at least a little bit on every Van Halen album and almost exclusively on his solo stuff.

Isn't it strange that Eddie was the one pushing them to try new (less hard rock only) stuff before 1984 came out - which is where the keyboards on Jump, etc. came from - and as I understand it, Alex and DLR didn't really want to try all that nancy boy shitt because it wasn't hard rock enough.

Then cut to 2 years later and Diamond Dave is the one singing 'Just a Gigolo' and strutting around in funny hats and makeup.

Fwiw, I thought Skyscraper was his best album. Some good songs on there.

Band became tighter musically with Sammy because he was more of a "pro" when he joined. Not knocking either sound but the band became more professional with Hagar. And no I'm not saying Sammy was a better guitar player than Eddie but he was more serious about practice, writing, etc.
