Ok - let's discuss - what has to happen to get a W tomorrow?...

For me - we have to force Jarrett Lee to pass and he needs to throw one of his patented pick 6's. I think for any chance for a W - we have to get a touchdown out of our defense or special teams.

I am really curious to see how our running game stacks up aGAINST LSU.

Stuff the run, pressure him, and get a few extra possessions on some picks. We'll need them to put the points we need on the board, because TDs won't come flowing like in the past few games. The Pizza Guy will have to nail some FGs.</p>

I like what you said DS, we definitely need to put pressure on Lee. He doesn'tplay very well under pressure. We have to make sure we keep our guys on the outside on their toes. LSU has a lot of speed and we are going to have to protect the outside.

Like most games, I think this game will be won in the trenches. Our OL has got to find a way to control the line of scrimmage. It helps that our QB is 6'4 240lbs, but those LSU lineman are nasty. That whole defense is a bonesaw. We have to meticulously execute every play damn near perfect. I honestly think we can win this game, butwe HAVE to protect the football to do so. I am talking no turnovers, which will be hard to do against their secondary. Special teams, we need a score from. and damnit, we need to kick the ball in the gat damn end-zone on kickoffs.

We have to get better distance and hang time on our punts and deeper kickoffs. The 11 yd differential in field position made it easier for Auburn to score. Kick/punt coverage has to be much, much, better. Going 80 yds in a 12 play drive lends itself to more mistakes for an offense then going 50 yds or less in 6-8 plays.

We dug ourselves a big hole Saturday on the first two possessions and gave up an easy offensive TD and a goofy INT return (how many times does a QB hit another headgear with a ball that results in a TD?). Those two scores killed our chances. Even as badly as we played the next three quarters on defense, we still could have won without the disaster in the 1st quarter.

Offense played well and you cannot overlook racking up 530 plus yards against Auburn. That was huge. LSU won't be as easy but our offensive game was solid.

I say penalties and field position are gonna be the difference.

I am confident we can and will move the ball on LSU and put points on the board, and they'll get theirs too which is more of a statement about our defense than their offense. What we CANNOT do is give them the ball in short fields. That's two main things: turnovers and special teams. Make Lee drive them down the field or hit a big play, but don't fumble it or throw a pick on the 30 and make it easy for them. We also have to find a way to control the kickoff returns (you know, after our multiple scores). At least LSU has been as bad as us on kickoff return yardage, but they are going to have more opportunities tomorrow than they have had through their first two games unless we found a soccer player. Knock on wood we've been pretty good in the punting game, and that has to continue.

they get ahead, and they will pound our DLine right in the teeth over and over and over and we wont win that battle....

they get ahead, you will see us abandoning the best part of our offense and force Relf to throw and throw and throw.....and we wont be able to be consistent on drives doing that....

bottom line, no gimme points like auburn game.....and dont let them get ahead by more than a TD the whole game....

On top of everything DS stated, I would add that our WR/DB need to be physical when the ball is in the air and when we are running. They need to fight for catches. Not pass interference physical, but not giving an inch of position.

I would like to see TR switch in an out on this game. Different pace/style could help keep their D in check.

we are going to turn the ball over..their defense just will put us under too much pressure. We just need to change it to when we turn it over that it doesn't hurt us. Spencer Ware is a bad a.

I want to try and simplify it;

1. grind the ball on them. first downs, own TOP, hurt them when they blitz. ala florida last year
2. stop the run. make lee earn whatever he gets without spencer ware. their WR corp doesn't seem as strong as normal this year.
3. field poistion, and penalties under control.

We can't just try to run on them, or pass to set up the run. We have to spread the ball around in so many ways that they don't know what's going to happen. LSU defensively is athletically rediculous but they don't have a lot of experience. We'll need to catch them in bad coverages and out of position. But at the same time we can't pull an Oregon and try toplay finesse. We need to be physical on every play.
Offensively we need to see Screen Passes to Perkins, Triple Option, Zone Read Option, Bubble Screen passes, Wishbone formation, Offset I formation, WR Sweeps, End Arounds Sweeps, Jump Passes, Downfield Passes, some trick plays, everything we have in the arsenal. of course if all that fails just ride Ballard.
Defensively tackle better and be in the correct position. We won't stop them from scoring period, we just need to keep them from scoring more than we do (real astute right?). Their Offense is less complicated then Auburn's so hopefully that helps our woes.
Special teams, for the love of 8lb baby Jesus someone kick the ball into the end zone on Kickoff. And if they run it out please oh pretty please don't let them get to the 50 yard line. If they have better starting field position than we do all night we lose and lose bad.

Weird to say, but our DBs are better than all but one of their WRs. Give a little help over the top on Randle, play man-up on the others. Free up our LBs to stop the run and blitz. We won't beat this team playing that soft zone and giving them a free pass all the way to our 20. That killed us on field position last week (when special teams didn't). Last year, we had the talent and speedat LB and DE to play the soft zone. This year we don't, our strength is the defensive backfield and the middle of the D-Line. Let's use our strengths.

Pretty much anything that would take their 1st string talent out of the game.

This will be like the Alabama game of 09. They will be just much more talented.

LSU had 273 yards against Oregon. They caused 4 turnovers.

That and kickoffs....assuming there is more than 1 kickoff.

us playing lights out in the first half and then a major power outage suspends play at the half. They are too deep across the LOS on both sides for us to have a shot. Once our first teamers are gassed, it's going to be brutal.

That didn't work so well. A stationary QB is about the worst thing we could do against LSU this week. I think we score more points this year but still lose. I think this game is going to be closer than most think. I dont think we turn the ball over 5 times like we did last year. <div>

put 8 in the box.Make Lee throw the ball, and force LSU's receivers to beat our DBs in man-to-man coverage. Many years this would be suicide, but with Banks/Broomfield and Shepard out, you gotta go for it.

On offense, protect the ball, protect the ball, protect the ball. Feed Ballard, stay between the tackles, and usecounter plays when you can. I don't think the option will be nearlyas effective as it was against Auburn.

Really those are keys to any game.

Somehow stop the run and force Lee to throw the ball to move the ball on us. Sooner or later he will make a mistake, so maybe we can get some points off turnovers. Somehow win the field position battle. We are going to have enough trouble as it is moving the ball on them, so playing on a short field would be huge. If we turn it over like we usually do against LSU, it could be a very long night. I just hope we can keep the game close and let the crowd help us outlate in the game.

Play man on the outside and walk Whitley up to play 8 in the box. MakeLee beatyou. I would also suggest not pinching our DE's inside on every snap.

When we pass, Relf can't hold on to the ball. He has to get it out of his hands quickly especially with Carmon out. </p>

1. No mental errors on defense such as lining up in the wrong position. Mullen mentioned that this directly led to at least two of Auburn's big plays on Saturday.
2. Better tackling. We don't have a guy that can kick the ball out of the endzone so we have to get over that. What we can do, however, is make sure that we keep returns to a minimum by making tackles.
3. Gotta hit the homerun when it's there. As well as I thought Relf through thedeep ball against Memphis, he was equally terrible against Auburn. There were a couple that receivers probably weren't going to catch anyway, but that miss to Carr in the second half was horrible. He had his man beat by five yards and Relf just threw it past him.

Bonus: Snap the mother17ing ball when linemen jump into the neutral zone. Dammit...

From what little I've seen of both of the schools I love so much...

I'd say your first goal would have to be to take care of the football. LSU's defense is going to slow your offense down. You just need to make sure that when they stop you, you're punting and not giving them the ball on turnovers.

Their offense can be exposed, and I think it will be to the tune of 2-3 losses this year at least. This could be one of them.

Take care of the football. Play good on special teams. Force their offense to have to drive the field to score, and you'll be in it in the 4th quarter for sure.

As bad as losing to Auburn was, I think you've got a really good shot to pull off the win against LSU. I think the match ups aren't nearly as bad as some are making them out to be, plus you get the advantage of being a home dog on a Thursday night.

Did Auburn complete a pass last week while we were in man? I'm sure they did but I honestly can't remember it. The two passing touchdowns were on our linebackers. One of their running touchdowns was on our left end and left outside backer (and our horrible pursuit angles). The other running touchdown was squarely on our MLB.

We continue to drop into two deep zones. As a result, our best player, Charles Mitchell, disappears in games. The only time he appears is when he is trying to make a tackle downfield as a result of someone else's 17up.

I have no idea why we don't bring more corner blitzes. We have the safeties to cover and certainly have safeties good enough to make an open field tackle. I also have no idea why we don't bring Mitchell or Whitley on run blitzes every now and then. I have no idea why we don't use our scheme to accentuate our strengths and hide our weaknesses.

Against Auburn, we allowed them to dictate where they were going to attack the defense. Not surprisingly, almost every successful play involved going right at our ends and linebackers (in the run game) or against our linebackers (in the passing game).

More than anything else, the Bulldogs need to force LSU to drive the length
of the field. Last year in Baton Rouge against Mississippi State, LSU didn't
have a single offensive possession start inside its own 30-yard line. LSU
cruised to a 29-7 victory without much trouble.</p>

</p>

Only two teams last year didn't allow LSU to have a single possession start
on the opponent's side of the field: Auburn and Tennessee. The Tigers scored
their fewest points of the year in those two games, 17 and 16, respectively. LSU
lost to Auburn and eked out a last-second victory against the Volunteers.</p>

No way I am going to try to explain this I know whatRev 22:18-19 says.

1 - must forget anything we have read about how good teh dogs shuold be this year and play the best game State has played since Dan came to campus.

2- starts with Defense. We must get to their QB.

3 -No turnovers hold onto the ball and avoid pick-6

4 - Dominate the line on O and D (impossible without #1 happening)

5 - Hope we don't get too far behind. If we sopt thsi team 14, I'm afraid of what will happen</p>

1. No turnovers
2. No turnovers
3. No turnovers

Les plays a conservative field position game and waits for the defense to create a turnover near midfield or deep on the opponents side of the field. When LSU gets a quick TD, the dam usually breaks when the other team panics and starts trying to play catch-up. Once an offense becomes one dimensional, LSU's defense just tees off on QBs. I see this being a reasonably close game until somewhere in the second quarter, and then it will be a runaway.

...has a better offense than we do. If LSU can handle them, they can handle us. Oregon kept giving the ball away. We can't afford more than one turnover (and we really can't even afford that).<div>
</div><div>On the other side, we've got to make Lee beat us. Stack the box! Play man. Let Whitley, Mitchell, Broomfield, Banks & Bonner do their thing.</div><div>
</div><div>LSU isn't as talented at WR as they've been in recent years and Lee will throw picks if we let him. That's got to happen or we'll be blown out.</div><div>

Relf carried the ball so often so early in the Auburn game (finished with 24, I think), that he seemed worn out by the end of the game. Sure, he still carried himself well, but he was missing some quickness and energy.

Getting Ballard carries early will help set the tone for our offense, and hopefully mean that we're having success on the line of scrimmage. Plus, he's a great HB.

Don't allow 30-40 yard KR's. Keep LSU KR yardage manageable at 15-25 yds per.

Don't suck defending the run.

Ralph completes a few play action passes for at least 25 yds each. One or two need to be huge gainers.

Do what we do running.

Sure they put up gaudy stats against weak defenses, but in 2 games against SEC defenses (one of which was a very mediocre SEC defense) they've only averaged 23 points per game, and that includes a meaningless late TD against LSU. I actually think our offense matches up better against LSU's defense than Oregon's does because we're a physical team and they're a finesse team (not thatany offense really matches up well against LSU's defense).</p>
