Where do we stand on the recruiting front? We just lost out to Vandy on the best remaining target. Do we even stand a chance for the 2 JUCO's? Next year doesn't really look promising as far as MS prospects go. How, exactly, are we going to get the line we need to make the next step?

It doesn't doany good to have 8 WR that can play if none can get open or make a big catch in a big situation. I'm holding out hope that current guys like Lewis and Malcolm Johnson can develop intothose types of weapons.

and what is more likely to come to State- a 5* WR or a good offensive lineman? Good OL's make skill players look better than they are. <div>
</div><div>We've had some good teams the last 20 years- but except for Moulds, all we have had is back-up NFL skill players. We need offensive line guys that can push some people around</div>

Our lack of a ground game is what's killing us. We need bull dozing, pound you in the mouth guys up front. We must be a run first pass second team to be successful always. We've got to upgrade our defensive ends. We get zero pass rush from them and nothing from them against the run. They are a huge liability. We need to get some cover corners that can be put on an island. They are hard to come by as everyone else covets them also. I don't know if anyone else has noticed lately but Broomfield is awful in one on one situations. I mean, awful. Bama threw at him all night. Lucky for us, several were over throws. We also need a reliable kicker obviously.

Also, please point out the section in my post where I say we don't need OL help.

but if we had had an OL like Bama had that kept on pushing and wearing them down- we would have had a chance.<div>
</div><div>Everybody needs a 5* WR- saying we need that is like saying you need some ***** from Jessica Biel- I mean- who doesnt? What we need more than anything is some guys on the OL that can punch Bama and LSU in da mouf.</div><div>
</div><div>Go back and look at our SEC West champ team from 1998- check out the WR totals from KP and crew....</div>

We need Olinemen that can push folks around some, if we can do that the rest will take care of itself. If you can run ball everything else gets so much easier. You cant do shat lying on your back.

People don't understand that a good passing game only opens up because of a good running game. It is dang near impossible to have only one good phase of offense without the other one being good. <div>
</div><div>Look at the 09 New Orleans Saints compared to last years. The 09 team could run the ball, which opened up the passing game for Brees. Why is that? Linebackers HAVE to respect the run when the O-Line takes the defensive line out of the equation. When you put pressure on linebackers and safeties to make plays with the run game, that puts even more pressure on d-backs to make plays in the passing game. Pull those linebackers out of position with playaction or draw and you are in control. In 2010, New Orleans was one of the worst rushing teams in the NFL. When linebackers and safeties aren't pressured to stop the run, the passing game becomes much harder on the offense. </div><div>
</div><div>We struggled big time to run the ball and that's because Bama's defensive line was so dominating. Crashing running lanes and the ability for ends to get off the block easily and contain the run around the edges makes life much easier for safeties and linebackers. </div><div>
</div><div>*Edit- Forgot my main point that a good running game can only be accompanied by a good O-Line that can open up running lanes and control the edge. Brandon Jacobs would have a very hard time running behind a poor O-Line.</div>

Again, I don't disagree that we need OL improvement. It's the most important group on the field. I can't be any clearer than that.

That said, if we want to have a chance to be better than a7-8 win team, skill upgrade is neededalso. </p>

Look at Arkansas this year. They cannot run on anyone, yet they can pass the lights out. But I buy your main argument.

and that's a good O-Line. Certainly much softer than Bama's, but still a good O-Line that can protect the quarterback long enough to get WRs the ball.

I actually think we're watching the change over from last year's offensive style vs this years which is going to be a more passing based offense. So with that said Athensbully is right. I honestly think we have those types of guys on this football roster RIGHT now. Let's remember guys this is Jameon Lewis' first REAL year to play SEC football. He IS a playmaker for sure but w/ all younger guys ball security is an issue. Morrow is another great player who's gonna need "developing". To me honestly the best WR we have is Chris Smith. The guy blocks his butt off on bubbles & run plays. He's VERY physical! He's big, runs great routes, has a passion to play hard (that upside down catch he made this year....passion) & has good hands. He's just not THAT fast. But again....what's up w/ Michael Carr? Where was he? He's another guy though. I personally think we're in a transition phase in our offense. I feel good about it being in 17's hands after this year.

Unless someone currently on our roster improves dramatically, I don't see us winning more that 7-8 anytime soon. I guess it's not out of the realm of possibility, considering how much our line improved after the 68 sack 45-0 arse raping in Croom's last Egg Bowl.

good O-line provides that.

You can take average receivers, a good O-line and Tyler Russell past 7 and 8 wins easily.
