Besides one off the wall answer, "double the population of MS", that we have no control over, so I will take this to mean this person thinks it is impossible, and a side discussion about A&M, the consensus seems to be:

Money - however no one has bothered to explain how more money will help

Recruiting - which seems to come with money? or winning? or both? However we cannot win if we cannot recruit, and it seems, we cannot recruit if we cannot win. So how do we fix this?

If we cannot compete for an sec championship, then what is the point? And if we do want to compete for an SEC championship, then we are going to have to be able to play with LSU and Bama.

I think it's more winning than money and facilities. It's not a direct comparison to the SEC, but look at places like Boise State who have no money and a crappy stadium, but they win and sometimes beat the big boys. Presumably they recruit really well. And I'm not sure about Oregon's budget, but their stadium is smaller than ours and Oregon is not a huge population state. Idaho certainly isn't.

I've pasted this and it may be an inoppurtune time. But I believe it speaks in an indirect manner to what should be important in college football as other sports. Personally, I think he's an insane genius and a psycho but one hell of a coach, which is basically a great teacher. I hope State always keeps things in perspective.

I realize that money buys better facilities. However, there is only so much upgrading that you can do. You have to be able to fill a bigger stadium. Just how many flat tv screens can you add? How much nicer can your weight room be, etc. I agree about the media and coaches. Bama may can get away with buying players, they've had lots of practice, but we can't even get away with giving a recruit a few hundred dollars. Maybe more money would help us buy off the NCAA.
