"I think Mississippi State is the team to watch this year in the SEC. I think they can compete to win an SEC West division crown. There is alot of attrition at the QB position in that division - McCarron, Mettenburger, Manziel - all now gone. This is one of those perfect cyclical years for Dan Mullen and Mississippi State with the schedule and with the players coming back that line up just right. They return 18 starters. I love quarterback Dak Prescott. He has tremendous arm talent. He's the best running back on that offense. And, he has that 'It' factor from a leadership standpoint. He's got his top 5 receiving targets coming back from a year ago including Jameon Lewis, that will get involved in the running game. Defensively, they're very big, they're very long. They look like an NFL defense. They're very experienced as well; 22 of the 25 players that played the majority of defensive snaps come back this year. Benardrick McKinney, a 6'5 250lb, middle linebacker is an absolute monster. I think he's a first round pick next year. And Chris Jones, a name up front at defensive tackle, not alot of people outside the SEC know that name yet, is a future star.
The schedule sets up pretty nice - Southern Miss is the toughest non-conference opponent. They do have to go to Alabama, and they do have to go LSU. But, they play LSU on the road, early, and I expect them to win that game. LSU loses almost all of its offensive players from a year ago. (MSU) has crossover games with the SECEast against Vandy and against Kentucky. That Egg Bowl late in the year could be a huge determing game for who goes to Atlanta out of the SECWest.
Keep your eye on Dan Mullen and Mississippi State."
