Need to make sure that me and Megadawgmaniac aren't going to be the only two wearing maroon. We'll be in Section 114, Row 38, unless better seating opportunities present themselves.

If you're going to Commonwealth Stadium for the first time, here's a few tips from an experienced pro.

1. Normal road cowbell rules apply. Sneak in your bell, hide it until after kickoff, and until it's obvious nobody cares. Typically they don't care. Laugh at the locals outside the stadium who tell you "You can't carry that into the stadium!"

2. Visiting section is the northwest corner of the stadium (Sections 113-117, roughly). You'll enter one of the gates on the west side.

3. Pack ALL your cold weather gear. If you don't have cold weather gear, go buy some. It's always freezing cold there, especially at night. Think layers, thermal underwear, wool socks, and gloves. Be prepared.

4. If you like seeing the team unload and load, Commonwealth Stadium is one of the better setups to do so. Team will unload and load the buses outside the west end of the stadium, right by where you come in.

5. If you're unfamiliar with Lexington, there's a big circle road that encircles the whole city. Fittingly, it's called Circle Road. The easiest way to get to/from the stadium is to take Circle Road to Nicholasville Road and go north toward the stadium. Nicholasville Road is a marvel of modern gameday design. It's seven lanes wide, and the middle three lanes can go either way depending on if it's before or after the game. It's the anti-Oxford of Southeastern Conference gameday accessibility.

Google Maps - Nicholasville Road

6. Pay Parking: If you don't mind paying to park, there's plenty of little lots on either side of Nicholasville Road south of the stadium. All the lots directly adjacent to the stadium are permit parking.

7. Free Parking: If you don't mind walking, there's a few parking garages that are a 10-15 minute walk from the stadium. UK has a helpful map of these here. Two years ago, we parked at Structure #3 on that map, and it wasn't too bad a walk. A long, long time ago we managed to park on the grass on the north side of Cooper Drive outside the tennis stadium, but I don't know if that's still a valid option or not.

That's about it. Be sure to get there early to see the team off the buses, and don't miss the opportunity to walk around the permit lots and marvel at the number of cornhole games you'll see in progress. I haven't researched this, but I'm pretty sure they invented that stupid bean bag game in Lexington. Talk to the locals, they're pretty friendly and fatalistic. 90% of them don't know much about football, they're just waiting for basketball to start.

If anybody wants to get together Friday night for food and beverage, name the place and we'll try to show up if we've made it there before midnight.

#3 - Right on about dressing warmly. 2 yrs ago I wore my heavy MSU stadium parka coat, but went back to the car to layer another lightweight jacket under it. For some reason, Ky is cold this time of year.

And make sure you know your escape plan after the game. I dang near got directed by cops to the Louisville highway last time, before I found my way back to the cousin's house, just off Man O' War.

# 4 - By all means, be present when the team unloads off the bus. Easy to get to, next to the stadium.

Thanks for the parking suggestions. Last time, I used a pay lot fairly near the stadium, which was only $10 then (prices have gone up, all over the SEC) and convenient. This time, I'm looking for one that may not be as convenient, but has a better escape route.

Cheers,
RCD

It does get cold.

I have been the last few times we played. It was cold two years ago and the time before that was a early game and was suppose to warm into the 60's and clear up.
Never made it out of the 40's and it sprinkled rain.

They also have a big tent, or they did last time, and you can buy meals (like B-B-Que) for something like $8. Was good last time and saved us from bring all our tailgate stuff.

I have lived here for the last six years, and it is lovely. A couple of notes:

1. Yeah, they aren't Nazi's.

2. These are some of the better road team seats. You see the entire stadium, you are on the lower level, and concessions are right by the section.

3. Yes. It will likely get down to freezing, and the wind has been running North the last three weeks or so... right into the visitor sections face.

4. Very easy to watch and participate. They usually don't have to high-tail it out, so they usually take their time and can chat when leaving.

5. It is called New Circle Road, in case anyone gets confused. Most of it is limited access, but about a 1/3 of it on the east side of town is not. The other big roads to know are Man O War and Richmond Road. We have a saying here, keep heading towards town, you will run into one of these.

6. You can pay park, or you can park at one of several locations in downtown and take the gameday shuttle in. That is usually how I go. $5 to park, $2 (cash) for the shuttle [or it used to be $2], and the shuttles have streets closed off for them to get in and out without traffic.

As for hanging out, go see the final day of Keeneland on Saturday if you like the Ponies. $5 to get in. A real good time. I won't be back in town until around Midnight on Friday, so hanging out Friday night is not likely. But a few suggestions: Charlie Brown's in the Chevy Chase district is a low-key dive with a great burger. Lynagh's (almost on campus) and Shamrock's (off Richmond Road) are the same thing, same menu and everything, but again have great pub fare and the best sports-watching in town. The Penguin (on Main Street, downtown) is a dueling piano bar. The Blue Moon (across the street from Charlie Brown's, on Euclid) is where you prowl for cougars. McCarthy's (on Upper, downtown) is the college bar. There are also a ton of places on Limestone you can try. Platinum Plus, on New Circle, is the best of the titty bars in town.

Message me on here if you want to know anything else, or if you want to try to hang on Saturday, pre-game.

We're staying at LaQuinta South Hamburg - arriving Fr and leaving Sun. Not sure how easy it is to get to and away from the stadium from there but thanks for the tips VH!

Take Man O War to Richmond, Richmond to New Circle (you will turn left onto New Circle), New Circle to Nicholasville Road, turn right on Nicholasville, follow the signs.

and to be honest, I'm looking forward to the horse racing more than our game. Both should be a good time though. Luckily, we have some good family in Lexington and they know how to show you a good time.

1. That's where we went 2 years ago for lunch that Saturday. Able to eat, drink, watch other games. Not bad. Hope we can check out some of the other suggestions.

2. Is this close to one of the shuttle stops? You know, in case anyone else needs to know. Yeah, that's it.

3. Do they have some of the girls wearing cutoff jerseys handing out complimentary passes within a block of the establishment? Also, do any hotel shuttles run he^H^H^H^H

AA - looking forward to: 1. drinks 2. foosball 3. coug^H^H^H

You must've been the guy we talked to at BWW two years ago who recommended it to us. Well done. Fried cheese bites FTW!

1. Glad you liked it. One of my favorites. We also have a five guys in town now, on Nicholasville Road. Good stuff.
2. You could probably walk to the stadium from here, probably take 1/2 hour, but it wouldn't be too bad. There is a shuttle stop at Woodland and Vine, at a restaurant called Ramsey's. It is about a 10 -15 minute walk from Euclid, I think. We also have lots of taxis in town. The city bus system runs up to 9 p.m. or so. Check lextran.com.
3. That I couldn't tell you. I imagine the hotel shuttles will go wherever you want to go, with the proper tip.

Ramsey's is a must for good Kentucky Food, probably the most popular in town.

If you like fine dining Lex has a ton of good places. My favorites is Jonathan's @ Gratz Park (downtown), Portofinos (downtown), Dudley's.

C Brown's is okay. Shamrocks is my favorite sports bar. There are also alot of good places to eat and watch football on Limestone, Pazzos (great pizza place, great beer selection, lots of TV's), The Local Taco, Tin Roof, The Local Taco.

At night just head downtown. Lots of new bars and clubs just opening up. Trust, Parlay Social, Harveys, Hugos, Redmonds. The best drink in town is by far The Bluegrass Tavern. The have every kind of bourbon you can think of. It is downtown next to the Pavillion.

I've lived in Lexington for 4 years, so if you guys need to know anything else just let me know.

GO Dawgs!

Not a huge fan of Ramsey's, personally, but I love DaSha's. Jonathan's and Portofinos is really good, I have never tried Dudley's.<div>

</div><div>I still haven't made it to the Bluegrass Tavern, but it is on my list.</div><div>
</div><div>Skint, do you work here, or go to school?</div>

Also at Commonwealth Stadium the sections are kind of odd. When you go through portal 114 it is not like seat one to the right-- the portal is in the middle. So when you go through potral 114 it is like in the middle of the section. Seat 1-18 are to the right and 19- 30 are to the left. Just different from most stadiums.

I have had that ticket before. It was weird. Little bleacher seat about a foot and a half wide. I promptly moved elsewhere.
