Only one was an opening day starter last year -- and he's moved positions. What do you think posting a current depth chart proves without the same chart from last year? Spin away...

Oh...so what the 2012 spring depth chart says trumps what actually happened in the 2012 season?

From the Baylor writer...
Probable starters are Devin Davis, Brandon Webb, Jake Jenkins,Parker Graham, and Daniel Koenig. Webb, Graham and Koenig are returning starters, and the athletic Graham is the best of that bunch. Offensive line will certainly not be a weakness for the Cowboys’ offense, but compared to OSU’s disgusting talent at all other offensive positions, it cuts a comparatively unprepossessing figure. The only hope for Big 12 defenses may be to pressurize and confuse this line to the maximum possible.

From the OSU writer...
Devin Davis is a 6-foot-5 and 298-pound red-shirt sophomore from Nacogdoches (Tex.) who was listed as the starting left tackle on the depth chart after spring ball. As a freshman, he started against Texas Tech and Baylor and saw action in six games total. The coaching staff expects Davis to be a permanent starter and staple in the offensive over the next several seasons. He is young, athletic and has a bright future.
Brandon Webb looks like the starter at left guard. The 6-3 and 326-pound senior from Owasso (Okla.) played in 12 games last season for Oklahoma State. He got his first start against West Virginia, stayed in the lineup every game after and did not allow a sack. Webb is physical in nature, which is what you want from an interior lineman.
Perhaps the most talented and accomplished member of the line is Parker Graham, the 6-7 and 315-pound red-shirt senior from Webb City (Mo.). Penciled in at right guard, he has been a starter for the past two seasons and will be expected to be a leader up front. Graham played at both tackle spots a year ago, but is expected to move over to the inside to fill a need. Also, he is a two-time All-Big 12 Academic honoree.
Daniel Koenig is a 6-6 and 310-pound red-shirt junior from Cape Coral (Fla.) who shot up the depth chart in 2012 and will start at right tackle. He missed one game with the first unit last season, against Texas Tech. Known for his solid technique and consistent play, Koenig has the potential to be an All-Big 12 performer for the Cowboys.
Jake Jenkins, a 6-3 and 298-pound red-shirt junior from Gilmer (Tex.), spent last season as the backup to starter Jake Epstein. However, he will likely get the nod at center this time around. Jenkins replaced an injured Epstein once last year and played in a handful of other games at the guard spot. Jenkins has been in the system for three seasons now and will provide much-needed experience and plenty of leadership.

No matter how you spin it. OSU returns 2 fulltime starters and a guy who started the final 5 games of last year.

I've acknowledged that MSU's OL has more starts than OSU's. And like I said, they'd be a great comparison if OL played against OL.

No spin here**

110 starts = 35 starts. Returning all of your top 7 OL = returning 2 guys with a season worth of starting experience. You heard it here first from olemissbydamn**

I never said that OSU had equal or more experience than MSU's OL.

But hey...if for some reason they line their OL on defense against your OL, I've got a feeling you guy will get the better of them due to experience.

I'm out. We're cluttering the board.

What is our weakness and how can we make that assumption?

This year, they won't have to by themselves. Collins is going to bring 5 most of the time -- and he's going to disguise it and bring it from every position on the field.

Go back and look at the tapes. Our 3 worst defensive performances of the year(Troy, OM, and aTm) saw Quay not play at all. 4 of our 5 worst performances saw James not play at all. That's more than coincidental.

There is a huge difference between playing gap assignments(what Wilson did all year last year save one half against MTSU) -- and telling them to go get the QB. They might as well not even be playing the same position with that schematic change...

We won't know what our weakness is until we play, but looking at last year, our D was not very good. Then we lost two NFL cornerbacks, which was our only position with elite skill. We have young players that I would be excited about on the DL, but if they are really that good, why the hell couldn't they beat out the crap we put on the field last year. I know everybody thinks it's coaching, and I think that was definitely part of it, but it is a little hard for me to believe a guy could make it to DC on an SEC team and be that ****** of a coach. I'm hoping Wilson is such a bad coach he makes Tyrone Nix look like a 17ing genius, but I won't believe it until I see our D get to the qb this year.

Was it not coaching that put Cherry in as a key cog on our D-Line? It's been rumored that he had an off the field issue with Quay Evans, thus leaving a more talented D-Lineman on the bench. That is on coaching.

Now I agree that I am anxious to see how much we will improve on D, but you can clearly see why there is some optimism right?

Not to mention the success Turner has had with DT's in the past and getting him back. Plus a year of experience at this level for Autry, ala McPhee. Again, they still have to show it, but there is legit reason for optimism on D.

To answer my own question I think the secondary will be Jiles and Cox on the outside, Whitley and Hughes on the inside.

Love and Jiles are interchangeable for the start, in my opinion. Jiles might be a better "beat you in the air" corner but Love is going to burn a lot of receivers with his speed. Slay had the fastest 40 in the combine and Love is apparently faster. Surely it will come down to which Love shows up for the final practice. He's shown flashes of being a stud but he's also been one of the biggest liabilities for us on D at times.

Obviously losing the best CB duo in the nation hurts and I understand the criticism of that position for the '13 season, but I think a lot of you are discounting the guys we have. The secondary is by far and away the best unit we recruit. SOMEONE will step up, and getting the best CB juco prospect didn't hurt. I like the AD/Ballard comparison.

#2 best unit we recruit is dline. I don't even want to make an excuse for those guys because they don't deserve one for the '12 season, but I don't think it should go unsaid that the defensive coordinator was in charge of rotations AND a lot of the top billed guys didn't show up to play.

2 different GA's told me that Autry has filled out big time this off-season. As far as the interior goes, anyone besides Evans can be plugged and played. I fully expect us to run a LOT of 3-4 plays against OSU. Why not? It all depends on if we can get the best of their oline. James could have a field day if he truly wants to, but motivation has been a thing for that guy... so we'll wait and see. That's why we watch the game.

Both teams lose a coordinator and a lot of starters. I'd consider the two teams pretty equal in talent, but they might have a little more of an edge in skill positions where we have more individual talent on defense.

I have no clue who will start at receiver, but I won't be too surprised to see Ross. Receiver is probably the easiest position to bring to the next level and physically I think he's in shape to do it day 1. I think he's a better prospect than Bumphis was and that worked out great.

I agree. We might have lost talent in the secondary but I don't think our ceiling is as low as the past season. No way Turner lays a turd as big as Wilson. Wilson has McCoy on his resume and to an extent Cox while Turner has a laundry list of average guys who exceeded EVERYONE's expectations. Give me Turner.

As far as Quay, I saw that guy at the bar every single weekend. Anytime anyone tried to talk to him including girls trying to get pictures with him or what not he was just a huge tool. I haven't heard about any off-the-field issues with him but I wouldn't be surprised. Guy needs to get knocked down a couple pegs. Unfortunately there might only be a handful of guys in the world big enough to do that.
