Oh Lord! Our recruiting world just crumbled.....

We had better just give up. We didn't land a 4 star qb in this class. The sky is falling. Here it comes. Watch

I think the funniest part is your post about good news in QB recruiting.

Does someone get fired over this?

Folks, this is a complete debacle to the umpteenth degree. This is the worst QB position management I have ever seen.

At this point, it doesn't matter to me whether Cord comes or not. The result should not justify the process. Just because things turn out Ok doesn't mean that the this program isn't being put at major major risk right now. This is unjustifiable by our coaching staff, and even if Cord shows up on campus, my opinion will not change.

Our program is being put at a major risk right now. At this point, I might rather get Gabe Myles to be the 3rd QB, and then try and sign the best QB in the country next year.

I mean, whats the point of signing a warm body that other teams will use to recruit against us next year? At this point, if Cord doesn't come, next year we can offer a kid the chance to be a 3 year starter in the SEC.

Well, I guess Sandberg could tank at baseball this year.

Who am I kidding? He probably sets some kind of freakish records this yr and is sure bet 1st round money.

Ha, I know. I figured our staff meeting with 2 good QB's today WAS good news. Didn't project we'd go 0-2. Win some you lose some...but funny indeed.

You must be kidding! From the looks of it we have a great QB set to sign with us, we are looking for a backup plan in case he determines his future is in baseball. That right there made it difficult to get a backup... but you cannot, not go after Cord. I think they are doing as well as possible with the cards that were dealt.

Yes. Stricklin is meeting with the entire staff right now and giving them their pink slips for not getting a qb commit. We will hire Houston Nutt in the interim.

We only have 2 scholarship QB's on the roster!

That is unthinkable for an SEC school. There is no excuse for not having at least 3 scholarship QBs on the roster, and absolutely no excuse for not signing a QB for 2 years in a row (I'm assuming Cord plays baseball). Croom didn't even do that. For a so-called QB guru, Mullen sure seems to suck at recruiting QBs.

The result doesn't justify the process. The process here sucks big time by our coaching staff and is inexcusable. For example: I like to drive and text at the same time. I have yet to get in a wreck while texting and driving. So thus, texting and driving is OK and not a bad thing.

Again, it is likely that we are over reacting about something that will never be a problem, but that doesn't justify the risk that our football program has been put in. Warm bodies don't win the SEC West. Big time QBs do.

We could just wait until DAK is a senior then legitimately offer a starting spot

Problem solved.

The greatest insult here...

..is one Dan Mullen, erstwhile architect of the Tim Tebow phenomenon, can't persuade a QB to defect from a C-USA team to a SEC team.

Did u guys expect anything else? Cord won't be here either. That makes it 3 yrs in a row where Mullen has wiffed BIG TIME on getting QUALITY qbs in here. He wiffed on Cam, Liggins, Wallace and after he wiffs on Cord we can add him to the list.

Maybe, just maybe

they have noticed the Guru's best product, Tebow, sucks so bad as a QB, he's a total joke in the NFL. Seriously--you really want to brag "I made Tebow what he is today"? Which is what--a lump of sh*t no one in the NFL wants or knows what to do with? He has the throwing mechanics of a shark attack victim. "You could be the next Tebow, kid!" Really? Any kid that wants to play at the next level will RUN from that offer.

That's....

Retarded. How the 17ing 17 does ole 17'n miss sign 48 qb's over a 3 year period in which they won 10 games and we can't sign one qb worth a damn in two years. Lets be honest cord sand bergs chances of coming here are 1 in a million at best. Dudes gonna be making money in the MLB this fall.

Tebow is a ****** NFL QB. Fact. Spin it that Mullen's system allows a dual threat QB with questionanle mechanics to reach his max potential. So much in fact that it results in a Hiesman trophy and being drafted in the first round. Without that system, do we even know who Tebow is today? It's actually a legit argument, but would take some balls to actually make an attempt at pitching it that way.

Tebow won a NC & a Heisman trophy...

..I don't give a flying 17 what Tebow did in the pros. If Tyler Russell wins the Heisman & wins MSU a NC next year, are you really going to depend on the NFL to define Russell's legacy?

This is the biggie - our school is closer to home and he'd probably be the only QB in this class which makes him the odds on favorite to be a starting SEC QB. And he's sticking with Houston. I wonder how much us putting some much faith in Dobbs cost us as we didn't offer until last minute.

There's still two weeks to try and salvage something but we need a miracle at this point.

What kills me is all the emphasis Mullen puts on camps, got to see them at camp, let's evaluate them at camp, and we had at least two guys, Dobbs and Max Staver who committed to Florida, who probably would have committed to us early, if not for Sandberg, WHO DIDN'T COME TO CAMPS???!?!?

I don't understand how we take early commitments from Trent Simpson and T-Man Holmes, but we feel like we should just keep quality QB prospects warm without offers until the last minute.

"Well _____, I'm gonna sell you straight, because I'm a good Christian man and all. We don't have too many highly regarded QB's on our roster right now, and son, I think you could be the next Randall Mackey! I'll give you every chance to start, but at the very least you'll be one of the 3 guys who throws a touchdown per game. Mississippi State? You're a career backup there! Ole Dak got special permission from Tebow to wear his number for his former coach. At least here you have a shot, and at the very least there's The Square, the greatest bar scene in America, The Grove, which as seen on the movie Blind Side is the greatest patch of grass in the US, and I'll help you find Jesus. I fear for your soul if you choose to play for Dan Mullen!"

Parker Adamson, come on down!

Borderline incompetent how the qb situation is being handled. Way to much loyalty has been given to Dobbs as a possible flip from ASU. Should have offered O'Korn as soon as he became a viable option. Of course the pony can't hold a match to the strip clubs in Houston so I can't fault him there. Maybe we can get the qb that is transferring from usm to come** (not Alford, the other one).

I guess we could always get Chris Garrett out of retirement**

Just like God planned.

Pure speculation here- I bet we end up with Jason Smith from McGill-Toolin. If that doesn't work out- we better cross our fingers on Cord.

Quit kidding yourself.

Smith is riding the pine right now and Tebow will never cut it in the NFL. The NC and Heisman had more to do Tebow's own ability than Mullen's guidance and coaching. Why everyone wants to point to Tebow and Alex Smith as the proof positive that Mullen can "develop" a QB is beyond me. In my opinion, and I realize I am being very critical here, the best thing Mullen has down is elevate Relf up one notch from hitting port-o-lets during practice.

If Mullen develops Russell in to a Heisman candidate that brings the crystal ball to MSU then we'll talk, but you have better odds of being struck with lightening while doing it with Cameron Diaz.

Do you think they would have been better off elsewhere?

They were both hyped up from gaudy stats as products of the system. If Alex Smith and Tim Tebow don't play for Dan Mullen, or in a system very similar to his at the time (how many were there?), are they millionaires today? I doubt it.

So we need a Heisman and a National title to prove Dan Mullen can coach QBs? I wish, but a little excessive don't you think?
I'd say Alex Smith and Utah elevating to national prominence out of 17n nowhere is pretty impressive.
