Why must you assume that all prior military members drink beer?!

Guess it would depend on where you are and where you are willing to go.

Yeah, LOL. Worded that kinda odd.

Meant Oktoberfest veterans, although if you're a military vet, I'll put more stock in your opinion.

If you're local to Lexington, I like Blue Stallion Oktoberfest. Pretty good little brewery all the way around

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest.

Just being a straight shooter here. Sierra Nevada. Dunno. Use to love them, but now I hate them. Every beer I taste. Getting more ugh by the day. I have noticed that Stone brewery is going the same route.

For the most part you're right IMO. I'm not a huge fan of SN but I do love their Oktoberfest. Hit and miss on the other beers.

You like the German ones? That Hackr Pschorrs (sp?) makes a helluva of a Oct. fest beer. It's prolly my favorite.

Oh yeah I love the German Oktoberfests. Hacker (sp) is excellent. I also like the obvious/popular ones as well like Spaten and Weihenstephener (big time sp). To be honest though I prefer the American microbrews better. Odd since I'm of German heritage!

Got some of that Hitler in you. Hi fives.

Here's my biggest gripe. Octoberfest style is effing incredible. Incredible. It's too effing bad that the West breweries have to focus on Pumpkin ales, beers, ciders. Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin. Sick of pumpkin beers. Pumpkin beers outnumber Octoberfest style and it's a goddamn shame

My choices:

Ballast Point Dead Ringer Märzen
Full Sail O'Fest
Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest. The Brauhaus Riegele (2015) batch was decent.

Since Pappy's is closest to you, Sierra Nevada may be your best choice.

I dunno. That Pumpking is Southern Tier. Gonna be honest again. LIke Stone. Southern Tier is on my **** list man. The only pumpkin brew I like is Cigar City's Good Gourd.

Southern Tier has a flavored beer series. Creme Broulee, salt caramel, oranj peel. **** taste crappy *** liquer. I mean it was slightly close to embalming fluid

I have not yet sampled Southern Tier Creme Broulee. On my list.

Give Harpoon Imperial Pumpkin a whirl. Crown Valley Imperial Pumpkin Smash also kicks some major ***.

New Albanian has one called Knob Knee Lager right now.might be the best brown Lager I have ever had in my life. It's amazing. Also it's a good time to go by Gordon Biersch downtown as they specialize in German type beers.

I've definitely come a long way since my beer guzzling days at UK in the late 70's. I was fortunate to live in Seattle back in the 80's and discovered real beer via micro breweries. Since then I've been looking for the holy grail of beer. From all my research Westvleteren 12 is considered the best beer in the world. Extremely hard to buy, easier now but still rare. Has anyone tried, or know anyone that has sampled this beer?

Thanks. bro. I've only sampled 8 Southern Tier styles. Couple were good, others okay.

Sounds like I'll be making a trip to Virginia Friday after work.

Grazie.

I met a gent who tried Westvleteren 12. He still had the bottle. Loved it.

Next summer, while visiting family in Germany, my sincere hope is to grab a case of it at the brewery. I've heard one must reserve 60 days out for pickup.

Go to their Facebook page and check the latest arrivals. May wanna call 'em, too. Watch expiration dates.

When staying with relatives back home, Pappy's is located just 7/10 mile away and I usually walk over from Shawanee.

Wow, 60 days out. You could make a fortune selling it by the bottle but as a beer lover like you and I it's much better to drink and enjoy!

For an import, I really like the Ayinger Fest Marzen. Too many crafts to keep up with these days. I used to enjoy the Sam Adams Octo, actually their only beer Ive enjoyed. Lots of good but not great US versions.

Currently working on a Samuel Adams 20 Pounds of Pumpkin. Medium malts accented by subtle spices. Nothing overpowering. Decent.

Just sampled a Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 2016. More akin to a lager. Big disappointment. Your mileage may vary.

Everyone should just believe in Oktoberfest. There's plenty of denominations to choose from. Jjust stay away from pumpkin!
