Old man question - how far can you drive without stopping?

I just got back from vacation and drove from Michigan to Mississippi yesterday. The aches you get as you age while driving start to add up.

I think I could get 7 hours before I need to walk around a bit.
Depends on how much water I am drinking. The older I get the less I trust my bladder’s ability to hold.

I go from one rest stop to the next rest stop. Sometimes I stop between rest stops to pee and get gas.

We have done a lot of long driving trips over the years and enjoyed them a lot. If it’s just me doing the driving I don’t do over about 500 miles a day anymore. However, with multiple drivers we have driven home from Jackson Hole without stopping when we had coolers full of fresh elk meat with us. That’s a brutal 28 hours straight through. We drove to Vegas last year. Did a bunch of National Parks along the way. Came back through Dodge City,KS. and had a beer in the Longbranch Salon. Another check mark off the bucket list.

Drove thru the night last year for a rut vacation deer hunt. I made it an entire tank of gas (650-ish miles) before stopping and only stopped because I needed gas. As long as I don’t have to pee, I’ll endure the pain of sitting that long. It was over 9 hours.

With the wife and kids in the truck, I’ll be lucky to not stop every 2 hours.

Normally about 4 hours. My wife won’t use a public restroom, unless it’s an emergency.

Longest drive for me (with several stops) was 14+ hour’s coming back from Omaha. I was partly hungover and elderly mother and 8 year old son, did not have same schedules. Thought we’d never get home, but surely was worth it.

Headed to New York City for the Ryder Cup in September. Do about 4 hours then stop, gas, pee, eat.

If it's just me, I'll go about 4 hours before I need to pee/stretch. And usually I need to just quick stretch my legs more than I need to pee.

When it's the whole family, we make scheduled stops every 2 hours. When we get back in the car, I go ahead and announce where the next stop will be, so everyone can pace themselves accordingly and we don't have any "I gotta pee" emergencies when we're in the middle of nowhere.

I can go 4 hours or so when driving and I’m about to turn 71. I do have an enlarged prostrate and my urologist recommended a supplement called Prostate SR which helps in shrinking it. I rarely ever have to get up during the night for a bathroom trip. The supplement does not require a prescription btw.
this?

I used to have a car that got about 400 miles on a tank, and at 75MPH, it took about 5 hours, so that's when I would stop. The next car I got would get about 600 miles on a tank, but I figured out right quick I couldn't wait that long between stops. Now I try to make it 4 hours between stops. About 500 - 600 miles is as much as I want to travel in a day now.

If it's a seven hour drive I am starting to look at flights.

Damn, my wife has that disease too, she never needs to pee until about 30 minutes after I stopped the last time. She'll even sit in the car waiting on me to go. She's had kidney stones in the past though and drinks liquids from the moment she gets up until she goes to bed at night so I guess its worth not having those damn pesky things. So far I have escaped those but damn they worked her over. She was throwing up from pain, running fever, couldn't pee from them. I think the amount of beer that flows through me washes them out
You don't want them I can assure you. I have a friend that can no longer go standing up. The scar tissue makes his stream look like a hose with a thumb over the mouth.

My most notable was a 16 hour drive and stopped twice but that’s been several years ago. I second the comment about thank goodness for heated seats as I’ve gotten older. I keep them on high with the a/c blowing whether on a long trip or riding around town.

And the comment about the Gatorade bottle, I have done that a time or two. Also stopped in the middle of the highway/middle of the night and took a leak and kept on rolling. Of course all this is solo. With the family it’s stop every 2-2 1/2 hours.

As I've aged, I've definitely adopted more of an enjoy the journey attitude. When I was young it was all about how fast can I get where I'm going. Now, if I need to pee, I pull over. As soon as I get back on the road I start looking for another place to pee for my "I didn't need to pee back there, it just hit me." wife...I can now make that second stop without being pissed off. I call that maturing.
This is an old story from when I was a kid. The first part of our journeys for many trips was the Jersey Turnpike. For those that don't know, it is a true limited access highway in that the only gas and food is at turnpike rest stops every 20 miles or so. My mother has to use the restroom which is actually pretty early in our trip. So we stop at one of the rest stops and we all get out and all visit the restroom. My Dad gets behind the wheel and is doing the next leg. We are on the entrance ramp to the Turnpike and my mother says. "Richard, you need to stop at the next stop!"

I just had a thought that I have never had before about this story that we have told many times over the years. Maybe it was a women's issue. I was too young to even know about that at the time. So maybe it does make some sense.

I’ll usually go 2-3 hours, stop for a leak and walk around for a minute or two then back in the car. Then occasionally stop for a longer rest.
