Should Nebraska go back and start claiming old national championships like Oklahoma State. I think this could be invaluable for recruiting purposes.

Nebraska's nine "unclaimed" National Championships according to wiki:
1915, 1921, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1993, 1999
I am curious who decided or what even made someone think that we could have been nat'l champs these years.
Would be nice to claim 14, but who would have the most if all teams did this?

just give us the NC every year we had one defeat to a NCAA probation national champ, like 0u, cu, ucla, Washington, etc.

Alabama claims some pretty ridiculous titles too. Like our neighbors to the east and their 1958 "national championship".

Does Penn State still have that sign at their stadium claiming a national championship in 1994? Pathetic.
While the greater number may be more impressive, it just smacks of desperation. I laugh when I see all of the titles claimed by schools like Alabama and Michigan. If they local sportswriter said they were the best team in 1906, they claim a title. It's ridiculous.
And let's be honest, until games were on TV there was no real way for poll voters to accurately make their selections. They based voter on box scores at best. There are some pretty tainted titles out there. How does that add any legitimacy to Nebraska's football pedigree?
What would be better would be Nebraska ending its 20 year drought, because right now they're like Minnesota, a team with a bunch of titles back before the invention of the lightbulb, but nothing recent.
