Leaving aside that AK may not be the best ever coach of UM.

You either can or can't fire the best-ever coach. If you can AK, then you can RS.

If you can say AK can be compared to what a similar school can/should/has done, then you can do the same for RS.

If you say March is what matters, then surely winning in March is what matters, rather than just showing up. Since the 1st round is often a gimme, then winning in the 2nd round is what matters. and Rick has a big 0-fer there.

34 is pointing out a double standard. Of course RS has delivered more than AK, but by any standard that justifies firing AK (an objective comparison to what a similar school has done), then it is also justified to fire Stans, because 1! Sweet 16 appearance in 14 years is a reasonable standard for a MSU-type coach, just as 1! NCAA appearance in several years is a reasonable standard for an Ole Miss-type coach.

and had only 2 NCAA appearances in 7 seasons. You can spin it any way you want to but Richard Williams NCAA success was the result of one great group of players more than anything he did. Your double standard is ridiculous. Williams has 3 NCAAs,2 NITs and 7 no postseasons and he's somehow a better coach than Stans. Even after you throw out his first 3 seasons, which is fair considering what he inherited, he still missed postseason entirely 4 times in 9 years.

Robert Jackson, Marckell Patterson, and Todd Myles on it...that was a solid team. Dont act like The Recruiter inherited a bunch of crap

Stansbury's success was a 4 year run from 2002-2005...

If you measure The Recruiter's employment from 2006 to now- do you think he deserves to keep his job if he misses the NCAA Tourney this year?

but to also use it against Williams. I think it definitely applies to Williams, but to Stans a little less since you don't make it to the tourney 4 straight times with one group of players.

If Stans misses the tournment this year, I think he needs to "retire." He's been an outsanding coach for us, but every coach reaches the end of his effectiveness. If Stans miss the tourament again this year, he's reached the end of his. He's damn close even if he sneaks in with a 10+ seed.

Yes because Evans and Barnes showed that sustained success is possible there. A few years before Kennedy got there, they had made the tournament 5 out of 6 years with a sweet 16.

No because the fans and the administration really just don't give a **** about basketball the way we do.

We simply demand that our coach win 20+ per season AND go to the NCAA's. It's that simple. Neither is more or less important when judging a coach.

AK is currently fulfilling only half of that equation. He's had MORE than enough time to remedy this situation and has demonstrated, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he's incapable of fixing it. Therefore, 17 him.

We need to wait until the AD has been selected. Let him focus on cleaning and organizing the Ath Dept for about 6 months, pay close attention to football. Let the new AD develop a short list for BB HC, and then after AK's next huge, embarrassing failure, cut him loose and get the new guy in here about the time we (hopefully) break ground on the arena.

McCarthy's teams "qualified" and that somehow trumps actually going. McCarthy also made the sweet sixteen (that he did so by getting a bye is irrelevant, apparently).

And you can't diminish the "Sweet 16" in 1963 by saying they didn't actually win a game in the tournament (other than the consolation game) either. Back then just making the tournament was the equivalent of a Sweet 16 today. Andtheir loss wasto the national champions in what was their closest game until the title game.</p>

McCarthy never won an NCAA game. Even if it is two that still makes Rick one of our best three basketball coaches of all time. I don't want to McKeen him just yet. The arguments for getting rid of Rick are very, very similar to the ones that ran McKeen off.
